Aurelia glanced around, making sure no one else was nearby. Once she was certain Kyler was talking to her, she pulled out her phone, found a video, turned the volume all the way up, and played it out loud as her 

response. 

“Are you okay? Are you okay? Are you okay?” the video kept repeating. Kyler’s expression darkened. He thought Aurelia was even more of a piece of work than he’d imagined. 

Aurelia couldn’t care less what he thought. After giving him a taste of his own medicine, she paid and walked 

out. 

Not far away, Liam, who’d been roped into a blind date, caught the whole scene. When Kyler started making things difficult for Aurelia, Liam’s first instinct was to step in to back her up. But before he could do anything, Aurelia had already handled it herself. 

The way she responded was abstract. But honestly, it was hilarious. If he hadn’t been stuck with his blind date, Liam would’ve definitely gone over to say hi to Aurelia. 

The woman he was on a date with saw him laughing and thought things were going well. But to her surprise, Liam ended the meal early and apologized. She looked confused. “Can you tell me why?”

When Kyler came back to the private room, he looked annoyed. Tessa was inside, chatting with Ewan. When she saw him return, Tessa asked, sounding a little worried, “What took you so long?” 

“Got held up,” Kyler said, not bothering to go into details. Tessa let it go and started telling him about what she’d talked about with Ewan. 

Ewan reassured them, “Don’t worry about Eric. Even if he gets help from Regal Investment, he won’t be able to stir up much trouble. I only gave him some shares out of respect for our old school days, but he actually thinks he’s running Alpite Group.” 

Tessa stayed cool. “I’m not worried about Arturo or Regal Investment. What I don’t understand is why Aurelia chased after the same projects as me, one after another. 

“I get into AI, she gets into AI. I bid for the port renovation, and she jumps in, too. Now I’m moving into gaming, and she’s right behind me again. She keeps following my lead,” Tessa said, sounding a little exasperated. 

Kyler took a sip of his tea and sneered, “Everyone’s jumping on the bandwagon in the local business world. It’s all cutthroat competition, quick profits, and a lack of innovation or real culture. Without any real edge, these copycats are never going to last.” 

On that note, Tessa mentioned Aurelia’s education. “She probably picked up some investment experience from Cassian, but honestly, she’s still not quite up to par. Her degree pretty much sets her limit.” 

Kyler asked, “What’s her degree?”

She was at the bottom of the barrel. The exact type Kyler despised most. He’d never liked Aurelia, but at that moment, he was even more disgusted by

After they finished eating and headed out, Ewan ran into Arturo in the parking lot. Arturo was still driving that same old secondhand Volkswagen. Just like Arturo himself, the car looked battered and busted. Used cars always had problems, and as usual, it refused to start. 

Arturo was hunched over, fiddling with the wires under the dashboard, trying to get it going, when Ewan tapped on his window. The moment Arturo saw Ewan, his face twisted into a scowl. He was clearly not happy to see him. 

But Ewan, never one to read the room, leaned on the window and snickered, “Still driving that clunker? Man, Eric, you keep sliding backwards, huh? Or did you already forget why your ex kicked you to the curb?” 

Eric’s expression turned cold, but he didn’t bother to respond. He knew Ewan too well. If he gave him any reaction, Ewan would egg him on even more. 

“Heard you’re trying to get Regal Investment to invest in your project?” Ewan added, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Regal Investment and Alpite Group were in the same building, so Ewan only had to poke around a little to know exactly what Arturo was up to.

Arturo finally got the engine to turn over, brushed Ewan’s hand off the window, and said calmly, “Not interested.” With that, he drove off.

Aurelia bit her lip, feeling conflicted inside, but finally said, “If I go, I’ll just end up spoiling the occasion for him.” 

“That’s just what you think,” Gideon said. “He hasn’t brought you up once in all these years. Do you know what 

that means?” 

“It means he’s already forgotten about me?” Aurelia replied. 

Gideon gave a wry smile. “You know, you two really are alike. He said the same thing.” 

Aurelia felt a knot of anxiety in her chest. After all, she’d really disappointed him back then. He was so mad, he said he never wanted to see her again. It felt as if he disowned her. 

Aurelia had kept her distance all those years, never daring to face him. But she still couldn’t give Gideon a straight answer. Truth was, she didn’t even know what she wanted. 

Gideon gave Aurelia a ride home, and when she mentioned her new address, he realized she’d moved. “Aren’t you going to invite me up? I haven’t seen your new place yet!” Gideon said with a grin. 

“If you’re not too tired, sure, come on up,” Aurelia replied, completely at ease with him. 

That was all Gideon needed to hear. But he didn’t push it. “It’s getting late, and I don’t want to bother you. Maybe next time.” 

“Alright, be careful on your way home,” Aurelia called after him. 

“Go on, head upstairs,” Gideon said. 

“You go ahead. My place is just right around the corner,” Aurelia urged. 

Gideon sighed. “Alright, I’m heading out. You get home safe, too.” 

“Text me when you get home, okay?” Aurelia added. 

It was clear neither of them wanted to say goodbye. Cassian saw the whole thing from where he stood nearby. 

As soon as Gideon’s car left, Cassian got out, carrying a bag of supplements Abigail had made, and walked briskly over to Aurelia. He slammed the car door, and Aurelia heard the noise, glancing over. 

Seeing it was him, she immediately turned to walk away. Cassian called out, “I’m just here to give you this. I’ll leave right after, promise I won’t bother you.”
