Aurelia had seriously considered Wade’s proposal, but in the end, she politely turned him down. 

There was no other reason. She just didn’t have any enthusiasm for romance anymore. 

If Aurelia were thirty this year, she might have considered it. After all, she was at that age. 

Or if Wade were twenty–six or twenty–seven, she might have accepted his offer and given it a try. 

But Wade was thirty–one, right in the middle of the most intense pressure to get married. 

Aurelia had just come out of a seven–year relationship, and her heart felt completely numb, emotionally drained. She was in no shape to jump into something new. 

If she accepted, she’d only be holding Wade back. 

She just couldn’t come up with a real reason. 

Wade was the perfect gentleman. Even after being turned down, he handled it with grace. 

As he walked Aurelia out after dinner, he took a small liberty and said, “Ms. Corin, you should try giving yourself a chance.” 

After parting ways with Aurelia, Wade got a call from Kyler, who invited him out for dinner. 

Wade thought for a moment and said, “I feel like having a drink tonight.” 

Kyler sounded a bit puzzled on the other end. “Something on your mind?” 

To Kyler, Wade had always kept his cool and was level–headed. That was exactly why his family chose him for a career in politics. 

Wade was just the type for it. 

This was the first time Wade had ever been the one to suggest going out for a drink. 

When they met up, Wade kept drinking in silence, barely saying a word. 

After Kyler kept pressing him, Wade finally confessed, “The girl I’m into just shot me down, so yeah, I’m pretty bummed.” 

“Who in their right mind would turn you down?” Kyler couldn’t help but be curious. 

Wade was handsome, came from a distinguished family, and was as polished as they came. 

Ever since he was young, girls had always flocked to him. 

So Kyler really wanted to know. Who could have the nerve to reject Wade?

But no matter how much Kyler tried, Wade just wouldn’t give up the name. 

Kyler knew that if Wade didn’t want to talk, nobody could pry it out of him. 

“Alright, take it easy on the drinks. I actually have something important to talk to you about, Kaler forvalley intervened after Wade had knocked back six glasses. 

“What is it?” Wade brushed Kyler’s hand aside and poured himself another drink. 

Wade knew exactly how much he could handle. He wasn’t about to lose control tonight. 

“You’ve been in Ashmont for about a year now, right? Ever heard of Murel Abbott? He was the former general manager at Ascend Group,” Kyler asked. 

“Yeah, I’ve heard of him, but we’re not acquainted,” Wade replied. 

“Can you get in touch with him?” Kyler pressed. 

Wade frowned, thinking it over. “I can give it a shot. What’s on your mind?” 

Kyler didn’t beat around the bush. “I went to Veyport a couple of days ago to meet Mrs. Keith about MegaTech’s acquisition, but she wouldn’t even give me the time of day. Probably, she thinks Evergreen Group has zero experience in tech, so she doesn’t see me as a good fit. 

“That’s why I want to reach out to Murel. He’s got the skills and experience. I’ve got the money. If we team up. I’ll finally have some real leverage when I go back to talk to Mrs. Keith.” 

Wade thought it was a solid plan and promised to help Kyler make the connection and see if it could work 

out. 

But then another idea came to Wade, so he brought it up to Kyler. “Have you considered getting Rezal Investment involved? Aurelia’s got a quick mind and great foresight. She’s running InquireMind, her flagship project, plus she’s got a strong network in the Ashmont Chamber of Commerce. Working with her is guaranteed to be a win–win.” 

To Wade’s surprise, Kyler just frowned. “Forget Aurelia. I’m not interested 

Kyler had zero interest in women who got ahead by shady means and cozying up to men. 

Someone like that wasn’t qualified to be his partner. 

Even though Zofia had proved Aurelia’s innocence with that video, Kyler still held a strong bias against her. 

Kyler thought, ‘Darren’s way too straight–laced to ever get caught up in her games. 

‘But then, what about Cassian? 

‘How does one explain that? 

I saw it all with my eyes.

Wade knew Kyler was set in his way. Trying to change his mind was pointless, so he didn’t press the issue. Once the drinking session wrapped up, Kyler said his goodbyes to Wade and headed over to Stephen’s place. 

Stephen had been busy coming up with problems for the upcoming computer Olympiad, so when Kyler showed up, he casually tossed him a problem to solve right then and there. 

It took Kyler a solid fifteen minutes to finally figure it out. 

Stephen wasn’t impressed at all. “You really took fifteen minutes to solve such an easy question?” 

Right then, Kyler just nodded and took the scolding without saying a word. 

“Did you know, back then, someone managed to solve this problem in just three minutes?” Stephen remarked. Thinking about it, Stephen couldn’t help but sigh, “She was only fourteen. Such a gifted kid. It’s a real shame.” 

Kyler asked quietly, ” Professor Horton, are you talking about your senior student?” 

From experience, Kyler knew that whenever the topic of Stephen’s senior student came up, Stephen would instantly get annoyed. 

This time was no exception. Stephen tapped Kyler on the head with his ruler. “Did I say you could speak?” ‘Now I was sure of it. Just like I guessed. No doubt. My brilliant senior is Tessa. I just wonder when the day will come that they’ll finally recognize each other, Kyler thought. 

Kyler admitted to himself. ‘Honestly, I’m looking forward to that day. Hope it happens soon. 

After splitting up with Wade, Aurelia swung by a popular dessert place to grab some sweets. 

No way around it. The matchmaking thing had crashed and burned, and she knew her mom would be on her the second she walked in the door. 

So she decided to bribe her mom into silence with some desserts. After all, it’s tough to nag when one is busy eating. 

This dessert shop was always packed, so Aurelia had to wait in line to get anything. 

Aurelia grabbed a number, tucked herself away in a corner, and settled in to wait for her turn. She figured she might as well catch up on some work while she was there. 

She was so focused on her work that she didn’t even notice her name being mentioned at the table next to her. 

Alina had gone out of her way to invite Mandy to this popular dessert shop for afternoon coffee, but since they hadn’t booked ahead, they ended up grabbing a seat out in the open. 

Mandy didn’t mind at all. She was actually pretty pleased with their spot, saying it was perfect for watching how the shop operated.

After Alina asked, she found out that Mandy was actually an investor in the place. 

Alina buttered her up a bit. “Mrs. Porter, you really have a knack for investing.”

“Honestly, I just got lucky this time. I’ve put money into beauty salons, gyms, you name it. They all tanked. This dessert shop is the only one that’s actually making money. Even Bruce complimented me for once,” Mandy laughed. She loved dabbling in investments, but her picks usually missed the mark. 

Luckily, her family was well–off, and she only put money into small businesses, which was more of a hobby than anything else. 

On that front, Bruce was pretty supportive of her. 

Alina wasn’t really interested in all the business talk. After a couple of sips of her coffee, she cut straight to the chase. “So, Mrs. Porter, I heard your son’s been seeing someone new lately. Any idea what’s going on there?” 

“Oh, him? He goes through girlfriends as he goes through shirts. Honestly, I don’t even bother keeping up anymore,” Mandy said, sounding totally fed up with her son. 

“So 

you don’t know who this woman is, then?” Alina went on. 

“Nope,” Mandy replied, not even bothering to hide her disinterest. 

“Word is she’s got a bad rep. You might want to tell your son. Playing around is fine, but he shouldn’t take her seriously,” Alina said, sounding half–joking, half warning. 

Mandy just waved it off. “Honestly, I wish he’d finally get serious about someone. He’s not exactly young anymore. When I was his age, I already had him.” 

“Still, you’ve got to look at what kind of person she is, right? With your family’s background, you could easily pick someone who’s a perfect fit,” Alina kept nudging the topic. “The thing is, this woman’s character is questionable.”
