Aurelia frowned, not bothering to answer or decline the call. 

She just left it ringing.

Once the call ended, her phone was quiet again.

Aurelia grabbed her pajamas and was about to head back to the bathroom when her phone rang right as she was about to relax. 

She sighed, annoyed, reached for her phone, ready to hang up and switch it off. She wasn’t about to let anyone mess up her perfect evening. 

But the moment she saw it was Abigail calling, she picked up right away. 

Before Aurelia could even get a word out, she heard Abigail on the other end, hacking violently. 

“Are you sick?” Aurelia asked, worried. 

Abigail was coughing so badly that she couldn’t get a word out. 

After a long moment, Abigail finally caught her breath and rasped, “Aurelia, can you tell me how you made that soup for me before?” 

She barely finished her sentence before another violent coughing fit took over. 

Aurelia jumped in, “Don’t try to make it yourself. I’ll come over and do it for you.” 

“It’s pouring outside,” Abigail warned. 

“It’s fine,” Aurelia said. She grabbed her coat, rushed out the door, and drove straight to the Locke family. 

When Aurelia arrived, she realized Abigail was in even worse shape than she’d imagined. Her cough was actually brought on by the influenza A outbreak. 

Abigail explained she’d been coughing for ages, and nothing, no meds, not even IV drips, had made it any better. 

She remembered how Aurelia’s homemade soup had really helped her out during last year’s flu outbreak, so she reached out for help. 

“I’ll make it for you right now. You rest, and I’ll call you when it’s ready,” Aurelia said.

Abigail added, “Could you make a bit extra? Mr. Locke’s got the same flu, too.” 

“Sure,” Aurelia replied. 

Aurelia headed straight for the kitchen, as if she’d done it a hundred times before. 

Aurelia wasn’t born with any cooking talent. She could only manage some simple soups and stews. 

And even that, she only learned after she got together with Cassian. 

At first, her attempts were a mess. 

But Aurelia was stubborn as hell. She kept at it until she finally made it.

Her phone buzzed with a message from her cell service, reminding everyone to stay safe and get ready for the storm.

Then she brought a bowl over to Benjamin in his study. 

Benjamin was zoned out by the window, watching the rain pour down. He didn’t even notice Aurelia knocking. 

Aurelia opened the door and walked in, but he didn’t even look up. 

She came right up to him and called out again before he finally snapped out of it. 

“Why are you here?” he asked, blinking in surprise. 

“Abigail’s coughing badly, so I came over to check on her. While I was at it, I made some chowder for you,” Aurelia said. 

“It’s pouring out there. Why’d you go out of your way to come here in this weather?” Benjamin said, sounding a bit reproachful. 

But Aurelia knew he was just worried about her. 

“Go ahead and drink it. Abigail said you’ve been coughing too,” Aurelia said. 

When Benjamin took the soup, there was a complicated look in his eyes as he glanced at Aurelia. 

He seemed to be wrestling with something inside. 

But when Aurelia checked again, he was back to his usual indifferent self. 

It felt like that fleeting moment was just something Aurelia had imagined.

While drinking his chowder, Benjamin asked how things were going at Regal Investment.

After finishing his chowder, Benjamin glanced at the storm raging outside and said, “Why don’t you just stay here tonight? It’s too risky to drive in this downpour.” He didn’t want Aurelia to take any chances on the road. 

Aurelia replied, “Let me see how it goes later.” She didn’t want to make any promises just yet. 

When Aurelia came back into the living room, she saw Cassian over in the dining area, sipping his soup. 

He looked up just then, and their eyes met for a split second. 

After that brief exchange, Aurelia looked away. 

She asked Abigail directly, “Do you feel any better?” 

“Much better,” Abigail replied. 

Of course, she was still coughing a bit. 

Abigail hurried to explain, a bit flustered, “Cassian didn’t know you were here. He only came back because he heard I was sick.” 

Aurelia knew better than to think Cassian came back for her. 

“It’s getting late, so I’ll head out now. I put the rest of the soup in a thermos for you. Just help yourself whenever you feel like it,” Aurelia said as she came out of the kitchen. 

Right as she finished speaking, a huge clap of thunder rumbled outside. 

The sudden noise was pretty startling. 

The rain was pouring down even harder. 

Abigail hurriedly said, “The property management just called. They said the roads nearby are all flooded, and it’s really not safe to drive. How about you stay here tonight?” 

If Cassian hadn’t come back, Aurelia would’ve probably crashed there for the night just to be safe.

When Aurelia agreed, Abigail finally broke into a smile and rushed to tidy up the guest room. 

Aurelia gently stopped her. “Really, I’ve got it. You just rest.” 

“Okay, the guest room bedding’s all clean, and there are fresh sheets and covers in the closet. Just put them on whenever you’re ready,” Abigail said. 

Aurelia had stayed in the Locke family plenty of times before, so she was pretty familiar with everything there. 

After a quick tidy–up, she was about to head to the living room and tell Abigail to get some rest. 

But just as she reached the door, she heard Cassian’s deep voice coming from the hallway outside. 

“The beta test for Dreamscape is getting great feedback. Step up the marketing. Don’t worry about the budget,” he said. 

“Get a few more professional media outlets to do exclusive interviews on Dreamscape. Before the official launch, make sure to bury any negative reviews,” he added. 

“The data needs to be spot on. I want Dreamscape to be the biggest hit of the year,” he said. 

“And keep all this from Ms. Rowe. She’s counting on this project to prove herself at Honoria Capital,” Cassian added. 

Dreamscape was the very game Tessa was backing.

It looked like the sky was falling. 

Abigail reminded her, “Make sure you close all the windows and doors before you go to bed, okay? We don’t want any dampness getting in.” 

As Aurelia was closing the window, she could make out a car parked under the tree outside. 

The rain was pouring so hard that it was impossible to tell what kind of car it was. 

She didn’t give it another thought, just closed the window and went to bed.
