Chapter 188 

Aurelia didn’t bother to respond. She was just about to leave when Tessa’s cheerful voice called out from behind, “Cassian, you’re here. I’ve been waiting for you forever. Want to come in and say hi to my mom and her friends?” 

Aurelia let out a soft scoff and turned to leave. 

She didn’t bother to hide her coldness and rejection at all. 

Tessa saw Aurelia, too, but barely gave her a second look. 

Truth be told, Aurelia wasn’t even on her radar. 

Tessa was certain that Cassian only had eyes for her. 

Aurelia was no threat to her, so Tessa didn’t waste a single thought on her. 

As they brushed past each other, a waitress was walking by with a pot of steaming beef stew headed for a private room. “Coming through, watch out!” 

Right as she finished speaking, her foot snagged on something, and she lost her balance, stumbling forward. 

Fresh off the stove, the stone pot was blazing hot, and the beef stew inside was still boiling furiously. 

If that splashed on someone, they’d be seriously burned for sure. 

Standing right in the waitress’s path were Aurelia and Tessa. 

But Tessa was facing the waitress, while Aurelia had her back turned. 

Tessa, seeing the waitress coming, had a moment to react. 

Aurelia, on the other hand, was completely unaware of the chaos unfolding behind her. 

Just then, Liam stepped out of the private room looking for Aurelia, just in time to witness the chaos. His expression shifted instantly as he shouted, “Aurelia, watch out!” 

Aurelia was starting to feel confused when someone suddenly yanked her arm. 

She spun and landed right in someone’s arms, her nose bumping into his chest. 

That familiar cool, woody scent hit her instantly. 

Cassian let out a muffled grunt overhead, and Tessa shrieked, “Cassian, did you get burned?” 

Liam rushed over, clearly worried about Aurelia. 

Liam called out, “Aurelia, are you okay?”

Aurelia stepped back from Cassian, only to see his right hand scalded by the hot broth. 

The back of his hand was red and swollen.

She frowned in worry, grabbed his hand, and hurried over to the bar, running cold water over the burn and calling out for someone to get an ambulance. 

She reacted faster than anyone else in the room. 

Tessa’s eyes reddened with worry. “Cassian, does it hurt?” 

Cassian wiped the cold sweat from his brow and shook his head. “I’m fine. What about you? Did you get hurt?” 

“No,” Tessa said, still rattled. As she started to calm down, she couldn’t help but replay the whole scene in her head. 

‘Wait, did Cassian just rescue Aurelia?‘ Tessa wondered, her mind a mess of confusion. 

Before she could say anything, Liam chimed in, “Man, that was intense. Cassian got so flustered that he grabbed the 

wrong person without even noticing. But hey, lucky break. Tessa could’ve dodged it, but Aurelia had no clue what was coming.” 

With her eyes lowered, Aurelia focused intently on treating Cassian’s burn. 

‘So he really did rescue the wrong person,‘ Aurelia realized. 

She and Tessa had just passed each other, so they were practically side by side. 

It all happened so suddenly. No wonder he grabbed the wrong person. 

Cassian didn’t deny it. 

Tessa breathed a quiet sigh of relief, quickly taking Cassian’s hand. “Let me handle it,” she said. 

Aurelia naturally let go. 

With Tessa there, Aurelia’s help wasn’t needed at all. 

She’d only stepped in out of gratitude. There was nothing else behind it. 

Cassian didn’t look at her again, acting like it really was just a panicked mistake. 

“It’s pretty serious. Let’s drive you to the hospital. There’s no point waiting for an ambulance,” Tessa said, clearly distressed. 

“Alright,” Cassian nodded, trying to reassure her. “I’m fine, really.” 

Liam got a car ready to take Cassian to the hospital, and Alina scrambled after them, looking totally panicked. 

Once they were in the car, Liam realized he hadn’t even asked Aurelia if she wanted to come along.

But when he glanced around, Aurelia was nowhere to be seen in the lobby. 

She’d already headed back to the private room.

That evening, Liam finally messaged Aurelia, keeping it short and just letting her know how Cassian was doing. 

Liam: [His left hand got burned pretty badly, but they took care of it right away. Shouldn’t be a big deal.] 

Aurelia texted back, [Alright, thanks for the update.] 

Liam kept staring at his phone, waiting for another message, but nothing else came through. 

‘Guess she really doesn’t care about Cassian anymore, Liam thought, a little surprised. 

Jasper had been out drinking at a work dinner the night before and passed out the moment he got home. He had no clue Cassian had gotten hurt. 

When he found out the next morning, he didn’t waste a second before heading to the hospital to check on Cassian. 

When he arrived at the hospital room, only Tessa was there. She looked like she hadn’t slept a wink, staying by Cassian’s side. 

“Tessa, why don’t you head home and get some rest? I’ve got nothing going on today, so I’ll stay with Cassian,” Jasper said. 

Tessa still looked worried, but Cassian tried to reassure her, “Seriously, go get some sleep.” 

“Alright, but call me if anything comes up,” Tessa said, fussing over Cassian as she left and reminding Jasper to take good care of him. 

Once she left, Jasper sprawled out on the couch with a dramatic sigh. “Geez, Tessa is seriously crazy about you.” 

Cassian ignored him, half–reclining on the hospital bed with his eyes closed, pretending to rest. 

But Jasper was just too gossipy to hold back. “So, I heard you rescued the wrong person yesterday? You were aiming for Tessa, but by some twist of fate, you grabbed Aurelia instead?” 

“You’re annoying,” Cassian said, his voice cool and even. 

Jasper, totally clueless, kept blabbing away. “So, how did Aurelia react? Was she super touched? Bet she thinks you still have a thing for her, right?” 

“I bet she’ll find some excuse to come see you today, and then she’ll be glued to your side, taking care of you like you’re the only guy in the world,” Jasper snickered. 

Cassian’s voice stayed cool. “You’re reading way too much into it.”

But Jasper was dead sure about it. “Just watch, man. She’ll totally show up. No way she’d miss out on a golden opportunity like this.” 

He was speaking from experience, because that was exactly what Aurelia used to do every single time. 

Jasper spent the whole day waiting, but Aurelia was a total no–show. 

“No way! Is she really not coming? You literally got hurt saving her, and she’s not even going to check on you? Jasper couldn’t believe it, his voice rising in disbelief. 

Jasper couldn’t sit still anymore, pacing back and forth in the hospital room like a caged animal. 

Cassian was unbothered, handling his work on the laptop with his uninjured hand. 

When he couldn’t take Jasper’s nagging anymore, he lifted his eyes and said, “I told you, she’s not coming.” 

“No way. This can’t be right,” Jasper grumbled, still in total disbelief. 

He kept sneaking glances out the door, half–expecting Aurelia to show up at any second. 

He even started convincing himself she was already there, just hiding out and waiting for her chance. Heck, maybe if he disappeared for a bit, she’d finally pop out. 

But after all that waiting, the only one who actually showed up was Tessa. 

She barely took a break at home before hurrying right back to the hospital to look after Cassian. 

Jasper didn’t want to stick around and play third wheel, so he said his goodbyes and headed out. 

As he stepped out of the hospital, he looked up at the gray, overcast sky. 

Jasper let out a sigh, thinking to himself, ‘Man, people really do change.‘

Meanwhile, Aurelia had just sent the business plan to Zofia when her phone rang. It was Murel, calling to say he’d set up a meeting with a potential investor. 

Developing a chip wasn’t something that could be done overnight. It took a massive amount of capital. 

Murel’s idea was that bringing in another strong investor would help speed up the project and take some of the financial pressure off Aurelia. 

Aurelia had no objections. 

As far as she was concerned, anything that helped the project was fine by her. 

They agreed to meet up that afternoon. 

Aurelia ditched her meeting and headed out of her office, ready to go to the appointment.
