Kyler was genuinely surprised by Wade’s answer.

Wade was known for his rationality, which was exactly why his family had chosen for him to pursue a career in politics. 

Kyler just couldn’t imagine Wade ever falling for someone at first sight. That was simply not him. 

Besides, the Lautner family had extremely high standards for Wade’s future partner, and Wade himself was just as picky. 

So Kyler asked, “She must be pretty incredible if she could make you fall for her at first sight, right?” 

“She is,” Wade said firmly. “She’s really something.” 

Kyler grew even more curious. “Come on, who is she?” 

But Wade refused to spill any more details, just shrugged and said, “It’s not the right time.” 

He wasn’t sure if he could win Aurelia over, and coming clean about his feelings now might put her in a tough spot. So for now, he kept it to himself. 

But if he ever did manage to win her heart, he’d make sure the whole world knew she was his. 

Since Kyler couldn’t get anything out of him, he just let it go. He glanced at his glass, snapped a pic, and sent it to Tessa, saying he was celebrating for her. 

Tessa took a while to reply, then asked, “Are you at Serenity Club?” 

Kyler was caught off guard. “How did you know?” 

Tessa sent back the photo with the Serenity Club logo in the corner circled, and Kyler realized he had exposed himself. 

“Since you’re already here, why not come over and hang out for a bit?” Tessa invited. 

Kyler replied, “I’m here with some friends, so it’s probably not a good idea.” 

Tessa asked which private room he was in, saying she’d swing by and say hi. 

Kyler didn’t even hesitate. He sent her the room number right away. 

Tessa showed up in no time. 

She walked in with an easy smile, but when she spotted Wade, she was caught off guard for a split second. 

She recovered quickly and gave Wade a nod, “Mr. Lautner, long time no see.” 

Kyler looked surprised. “You two know each other?” 

“Yeah, we’ve run into each other a few times,” Tessa said, settling in comfortably. She glanced at Kyler and joked, “If you’d mentioned Mr. Lautner was here, I would’ve just come over to hang out. We’re all familiar faces anyway.” 

Wade replied coolly, “It’s not really convenient.” 

Tessa smiled knowingly. “True, your position really isn’t suited for being too close to business people. I understand.” 

She accepted the drink Kyler poured, lifted her glass to both of them, and said, “Cheers to you two. Hope you have a good time tonight.”

Kyler raised his glass to her and wished her a happy engagement. 

Wade was sitting a little farther away, so he just gave his glass a light tap on the table as his way of joining in. 

He could’ve easily walked over for a real toast. The room was big and there weren’t many people. 

But he didn’t.

Tessa was caught off guard, but she played it off smoothly. After finishing her drink, she stood up and said, “Let’s grab dinner together sometime.” 

Kyler agreed. “Sure.” 

Wade stayed silent, didn’t even glance at her. His attitude was distant and indifferent. 

Tessa frowned, genuinely puzzled by his behavior. She just couldn’t figure him out. 

Wade seems pretty distant toward me, Tessa thought. 

‘Is it because I turned him down before?‘ she wondered. 

‘Probably,‘ she told herself. 

‘Honestly, getting rejected does sting the pride a bit,‘ she admitted to herself. 

She didn’t let it bother her, just said her goodbyes politely and left. 

Back in her own room, she made sure to let Kyler know she’d already told the staff to put the tab on her. 

Kyler quickly protested, “No way, I can’t let you pay. I’ve got this.” 

“Just let me play the host for once. Why are you being so formal with me?” Tessa said with a smile. 

“Alright, thanks,” Kyler said. 

Tessa grinned and threw out another question, “Oh, by the way, how did you and Wade even end up knowing each other?” 

She was honestly curious. After all, the two weren’t even from the same age. 

Plus, with their totally different circles, it was not like they’d just run into each other. 

“He’s like my big brother from next door,” Kyler replied. 

‘So they were just neighbors., Tessa thought to herself. 

But Tessa was still curious and added, “Wade’s done really well for someone his age. Not many people get that far so young. His family must have helped him a lot, right?” 

“He made it on his own,” Kyler said, keeping it simple, 

Wade’s dad was seriously influential, but that was not something Kyler could just bring up, so he only shared what he could. 

Hearing that, Tessa figured she was just overthinking it. 

‘So Wade really doesn’t have any powerful connections, she mused. 

Before the blind date, Alina had even had someone look into things in Northvale, but they didn’t find any influential figures 

with the Lautner name,

She honestly had no clue how the matchmaker managed to hype Wade up as some major player when talking to Alina. 

That was the only reason Tessa snuck off to meet Wade without Cassian knowing. 

But once she realized Wade didn’t have any big family connections, the next time he asked her out, she told him straight up she wasn’t interested and decided to stick with Cassian.

Aurelia was flying out to Grendel City the next day, so she’d have to put off dealing with EverMass Group until she got back. 

But she needed to let Jasper know to get all the necessary documents ready ahead of time. 

So once she wrapped up her work, she gave Jasper a call. 

Jasper sounded like he was somewhere pretty loud, and Aurelia could just make out people in the background congratulating Tessa, probably about her engagement. 

As Jasper stepped out of the private room, all the noise was left behind. 

“Aurelia… Ms. Corin,” Jasper hesitated. 

He started to call her by her first name out of habit, but stopped himself and switched to “Ms. Corin” instead. 

It was kind of awkward. 

His attitude on the phone had totally changed from before. 

He used to act like he was above her, full of himself, always looking down on her. 

But now, it was like a student getting a call from the principal. He was tense, watching every word. 

Aurelia calmly told him what he needed to prepare. 

“I’m not sure I can remember all that. Could you send it to me on WhatsApp? Jasper practically begged, sounding a little desperate. 

Aurelia couldn’t help but frown, figuring it was probably a bit much for Jasper to handle, so she agreed. 

Just as she was about to hang up, Jasper mumbled, almost embarrassed, “Ms. Corin, I’m still blocked on your WhatsApp. 

“Got it,” Aurelia said, then hung up and took Jasper off her blocked list on WhatsApp. 

She shot him over the categories of documents he’d need. 

Jasper replied right away, [Got it.] 

Aurelia thought for a second, then added, If there is anything you don’t understand, you can ask Miranda.] 

Jasper replied, [Alright.] 

He was being super careful, not daring to step out of line. 

Aurelia closed out their chat and scrolled through her Instagram feed to see what was new. 

Zofia was all about living life to the fullest and loved sharing her adventures on Instagram.

Ever since they became friends, Aurelia would always like her posts, and it became a habit for her to check Instagram every night before bed. 

Aurelia scrolled through her feed, and sure enough, Zofia had just posted an update. 

It was a photo of her visiting the orphanage. 

A bunch of kids were gathered around her, and she was smiling warmly. 

But Aurelia couldn’t help but notice that Zofia looked even thinner than before. 

After liking the post, Aurelia scrolled down and noticed a recent post from Jasper on Instagram. 

[Congrats to Cassian and Tessa! Wishing you a lifetime of happiness together!] 

The post featured a photo of the two of them. 

Cassian had his arm casually draped over Tessa’s shoulders, looking completely chill. 

Cassian tilted his head toward Tessa, looking at her with eyes full of love and that unmistakable, gentle spoiling.
