Alina kept waiting for an answer, but after what felt like ages, she was still met with silence.

Cassian showed up that evening.

Alina figured she could excuse herself and give the two of them some privacy.

But Tessa kept holding onto her hand, not letting her leave.

Feeling helpless, Alina asked Cassian to head home and get some rest, while she stayed at the hospital to take care of Tessa.

After her IV drip was done, Aurelia felt restless from being cooped up, so she decided to head outside for a walk.

Miranda had planned to stay and take care of her, but Aurelia told her to go home.

She felt fine, not serious enough to need someone to take care of her.

Plus, because she’d been stuck in Grendel City for a few extra days after her injury, Miranda’s boyfriend was already starting to get annoyed about it.

The hospital was peaceful at night, with a welcome breeze drifting through, way cooler than it was inside.

Aurelia grabbed a seat and started catching up on work on her phone.

She asked the project team to tweak things a bit more, so the inspection team wouldn’t have anything to nitpick.

Just as she wrapped up her work, Tyson shot her a text, asking if she was sick

But Tyson wouldn’t let it go, pressing her about which hospital she was at and insisting he had to drop by.

When he realized Aurelia wasn’t going to spill, he threatened to call Miranda. She’d definitely give up the info.

Resigned, Aurelia sent him the hospital address.

Tyson said he’d come over with Mila soon. Mila had been really worried and wouldn’t be able to relax until she saw Aurelia herself.

Aurelia got up and headed back inside.

As she reached the doorway, Aurelia ran into Cassian, who was heading out.

He’d been striding quickly, but stopped short when he saw her.

Aurelia didn’t linger on him. Her gaze shifted past with cool indifference as she walked right inside.

Just as they were about to pass each other, Cassian spoke.

His voice was neutral, betraying no emotion.

It sounded almost offhand, like he was just tossing out a question.

“Are you sick?” he asked.

Aurelia flat–out ignored him, obviously wanting nothing to do with him.

She felt nothing, completely emotionless.

In fact, she found it laughable.

Before they broke up, he never paid her any attention.

Now that he was concerned, it didn’t move her in the slightest.

She didn’t need it anymore.

Real or fake, she didn’t want it anymore.

Cassian stood there for a while, watching until Aurelia had disappeared from view, then finally left alone.

Aurelia had barely returned to her hospital room when Tyson and his sister Mila arrived.

Mila was beside herself with worry, clinging to Aurelia and firing off question after question.

Tyson had to step in, telling Mila to give Aurelia a break and let her rest, and only then did Mila back off a little.

“Aurelia, get some rest, okay? We’ll come see you again tomorrow morning,” Mila said.

As she was leaving, Mila paused at the door and asked if there was anything Aurelia wanted to eat, promising to bring it by in the morning.

Not wanting to turn down Mila’s kindness, Aurelia casually mentioned she’d love some chicken soup from the little shop near the hospital.

It’s right on their way, so it wouldn’t be

trouble.

Tyson nodded, making sure to remember.

As soon as they left, the doctor and nurse on duty knocked and came in, asking if Aurelia was alone or if she had anyone staying with her.

When they realized she was by herself, they told her to just hit the call button if she needed anything. They’d have someone over in a flash.

They were pretty thoughtful.

The next morning, Tyson showed up by himself.

He didn’t just bring the chicken soup Aurelia had asked for, he also made a pot of corn cream soup to help her relax and recharge.

“I simmered it low and slow. It’s really good for you. Make sure you eat more,” Tyson said as he ladled some soup into a bowl

for her.

The soup had been simmering slowly, which meant Tyson had to be up at dawn to get it going.

Not wanting to let his effort go to waste, Aurelia finished off two bowls.

Tyson asked, “Are you getting another IV today?”

“Yeah,” Aurelia replied.

He hesitated, then said, “Since you don’t have anyone with you, maybe I should stay and keep you company. It’s always

‘Seriously, you don’t have to,’ Aurelia said. ‘It’s just an IV, I can manage. I’ve done this on my own lots of times.

Aurelia hadn’t meant to say it, but once the words slipped out, Tyson’s heart twisted with sympathy.

He said gently, “That was before. You know, you don’t have to keep pretending to be strong anymore.”

Both of them fell silent after that.

But in the end, Aurelia sent Tyson home since InquireMind was about to go public, and there were many things to do.

As soon as Tyson left, Liam showed up, carrying a huge bouquet of sunflowers.

Aurelia had no idea how he even found out she was in the hospital.

“I just landed and heard you were in the hospital. I didn’t even stop to catch my breath before rushing over. Just how did things get so serious?” Liam asked, his brow furrowed in concern.

“I had a little accident in Grendel City,” Aurelia replied, keeping it brief.

Liam could tell she wasn’t in the mood to talk, so he didn’t press her. He just told her to rest well.

After all, her health came first.

Aurelia expected him to leave after the visit, but Liam clearly wasn’t in any rush. He made himself comfortable on the couch and started playing on his phone.

After a moment of quiet, Aurelia finally asked, “Aren’t you busy, Liam?”

“Yeah, I am,” Liam replied.

“Then maybe you should go take care of your work?” Aurelia suggested.

“No worries. Work never really ends, does it? I’ll hang out and keep you company while you’re getting your drip,” Liam said.

Aurelia was so speechless.

Liam knew exactly what she was getting at.

He was just playing dumb.

He believed that chasing a girl required thick skin.

He had to stick to her like a band–aid; only then did he have a chance.

Being too concerned about his pride hadn’t gotten him the girl.

This was the experience he had summarized over many years.

“Really, I can manage on my own. The nurses and doctors here are super attentive. Just a call and they’re here. I honestly don’t need anyone to keep me company,” Aurelia insisted.

Liam grinned and said, “I get it, but you’re not a robot. You’re human. Who actually wants to be sick all alone? If having me here makes you uncomfortable, I can always wait outside.”

She just shut her eyes and decided to rest.

She’d barely had time to close her eyes when Gideon showed up.

He knocked hurriedly and stepped inside, only to spot Liam. Both of them paused, caught off guard.

The moment their eyes met, everything was crystal clear.

Liam’s gaze turned distant as he looked at Gideon.

Gideon’s eyes mirrored his, just as indifferent.

Aurelia just repeated what she’d told Liam. She’d gotten hurt in Grendel City, nothing more.

“Next time you head out for a business trip, make sure to bring someone tough with you, or just hire a bodyguard,” Gideon said. “Seriously, safety comes first when you’re out there.”

Miranda had already nagged her about this, and Aurelia figured she’d probably already posted a recruitment ad by now.

Gideon made himself comfortable, clearly in no rush to leave. He even called up his housekeeper, asking her to make some chicken soup to help Aurelia relax and recharge, and deliver it straight to the hospital.
