Chapter 212Â
The old man was efficient. He gave Wade an answer right away.Â
He mentioned someone had already spoken up for him, but kept the name to himself.Â

Good thing the issue was sorted out. Wade wasted no time rushing over to Aurelia, wanting to tell her everything was handled so she could rest easy and focus on getting better.Â
Definitely good news.Â
Aurelia thanked Wade.Â
But Wade’s gaze shifted to Gideon, giving him the once–over, like guys do when they’re sizing each other up.Â
Gideon felt Wade’s eyes on him and looked right back at him.Â
Their eyes met, and it was like an invisible war had just broken out between them, tension spreading fast.Â
But with Aurelia right there, neither of them let it show.Â
Both of them maintained their gentlemanly composure.Â
Now that one worry was off her mind, Aurelia found herself stressing about something else.Â
Dealing with Liam and Gideon was already more than she could handle, and now Wade was in the picture too.Â
She honestly didn’t know how she was supposed to handle all this anymore.Â
Just as Aurelia was stressing out, the doctor knocked and stepped inside.Â
He scanned the room and said, “The patient needs rest. No more hanging around. Once you’ve finished visiting, please headÂ
out.”Â
None of them protested. They gave Aurelia a quick goodbye and left without a fuss.Â
Finally, Aurelia got some peace and quiet.Â
Later that afternoon, Abigail came by with a bunch of tasty, healthy food for Aurelia. Everything was packed with nutrition.Â
Aurelia asked how she knew she was in the hospital.Â
Abigail didn’t hide anything. “Cassian told me,” she said.Â
Aurelia didn’t even want to think about what Cassian’s angle was, so she just let it go,Â
After chatting for a bit, Aurelia urged Abigail to hurry back. She still needed to cook dinner for Benjamin.Â
As Abigail was leaving, she said she’d come by again tomorrow and asked if Aurelia wanted anything special to eat; she’d make it for her then.Â
Aurelia knew how Abigail was, so she just named a couple of simple dishes that wouldn’t be any trouble.Â
Abigail left with a big smile on her face.Â
When Jasper came back from the restaurant with takeout, he bumped into Abigail, who was rushing out. Seeing the food containers in her hands, he couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.Â

If Cassian already had Abigail bring food for Tessa, he could’ve just let me know. Looks like I wasted a trip for nothing. Jasper thought to himself.Â
But since he’d already bought the food, Jasper dropped it off at Tessa’s room. It turned out she hadn’t touched her meal yet.Â
Jasper was even more confused. ‘Who was Abigail really bringing food for?‘ he wondered.Â
For once, Jasper played it smart and kept quiet about it in front of Tessa.Â
He waited until he’d left Tessa’s room before finally calling Cassian.Â
Cassian answered just in time, right before the call would’ve dropped.Â
“Cassian, where are you?” Jasper asked.Â
“At the hospital,” Cassian replied.Â
“Funny, I’m at the hospital too. How come I haven’t seen you anywhere?” Jasper said.Â
Cassian replied, “I’m over by the doctor’s office.”Â
He paused, then said, “Just getting an update from Tessa’s attending physician about her.”Â
Jasper instantly understood.Â
‘Cassian is still so invested in Tessa’s situation,‘ Jasper thought.Â
He’d been busy all day at work, and as soon as he clocked out, he rushed straight to the hospital to check on her.Â
‘Turns out I was worried for nothing, Jasper thought.Â
Jasper didn’t say anything else and hung up in a hurry.Â
Cassian really was at the hospital, but he wasn’t meeting with Tessa’s attending physician. He was talking to a different doctor.Â
The doctor was going over the scans with him. “Everything looks normal. No blood clots, and no signs of structural damageÂ
to the brain.”Â
“So why did she suddenly faint?” Cassian asked.Â
“Since she suffered a moderate concussion, it’s not surprising her body’s reacting this way. The initial diagnosis points to autonomic dysfunction, and with her being physically weak and her immune system running low, it’s no wonder she fainted. With some proper rest and recovery, she should be back to normal soon,” the doctor explained.Â
Just as Cassian stepped out of the doctor’s office, his phone rang. It was Tessa, asking why he still hadn’t arrived.Â
“I’m almost there,” Cassian replied.Â
After hanging up, instead of heading to Tessa, he made his way straight to Aurelia’s room.Â
Aurelia hadn’t gotten any sleep all day, but the medication finally knocked her out and she drifted off.Â
The room was peaceful, curtains fluttering softly in the night breeze.Â
As night settled in, rain began to fall outside.Â
Summer storms always hit hard, and rain would sneak right in through the window without warning.Â

Chapter 212Â
The nurse went from room to room, making sure all the windows were shut tight.Â
When she got to Aurelia’s room, a loud crack of thunder jolted her awake.Â
“It’s just thunder, don’t worry. I’m here to check if your window’s closed,” the nurse said quickly.Â
“I left it open earlier because it was stuffy,” Aurelia replied as she looked toward the window.Â
She froze for a second, caught off guard.Â
To her surprise, the window was already shut.Â
The nurse noticed too. “Guess one of the other nurses closed it for you. It’s fine, try to get some rest.”Â
The nurse left, and the room fell quiet again.Â
Aurelia just figured another nurse had closed the window and didn’t give it another thought.Â
When she lay back down, she noticed the AC was now set to 78°F.Â
That was her favorite temperature.Â

She’d opened the window earlier to air out the room, so she’d turned the AC lower. But when she went to sleep, she forgot to set it back to her preferred temperature.Â
‘She probably changed the AC setting for me when she closed the window,‘ Aurelia thought.Â
After all, the staff at this hospital really do take their jobs seriously.Â
Aurelia had an early morning check–up, so Miranda showed up bright and early to keep her company.Â
“Did you sleep okay last night, Aurelia?” Miranda asked.Â
“Yeah, it was fine,” Aurelia replied.Â
“Good, I was worried the thunderstorm might’ve kept you up,” Miranda said.Â
Even though it was still early, people were already lining up at the hospital’s testing area.Â
“Aurelia, just sit here and wait. I’ll go get in line, and I’ll call you over when it’s your turn,” Miranda said as she found her a spot to sit.Â
As soon as Aurelia sat down, she spotted Cassian in the line.Â
He must’ve gotten here super early, since he was way up front.Â
Aurelia barely glanced his way before opening up some files on her phone to catch up on work.Â
She’d only managed to work on two files when Miranda called her, saying it was her turn already.Â
Aurelia blinked in surprise. “That was quick!Â
Without missing a beat, she stashed her phone and headed over.Â
By the time all the tests were done, it was almost noon.Â
Miranda pulled some food out of her bag and handed it to Aurelia. “It’s still warm. Bet you’re starving, Aurelia. Dig in.”Â
“Seriously, is there anything you don’t have in that bag?” Aurelia couldn’t help but laugh, totally impressed.Â

Miranda grinned proudly. “I learned from you.”Â
As they were leaving the testing area and heading back to the ward, they happened to run into Dr. Wright at the entrance.Â
Dr. Wright greeted her with concern, “Aurelia, are you sick? What happened?”Â
Aurelia paused and answered, “I had a little accident and got a head injury, so I came in for a follow–up.”Â
Since it wasn’t her specialty, Dr. Wright didn’t ask any more questions. Instead, she suggested, “Since you’re already here, why not drop by my office for a quick follow–up? I’ve got some free time today.”Â
Aurelia was about to agree, but then she caught sight of Cassian helping Tessa walk over from the other side. Instantly, she changed her mind.Â
“Thanks for the offer, Dr. Wright. Maybe next time, I’ll book an appointment when I’m free,” Aurelia said.Â
“Alright, take care and get well soon,” Dr. Wright replied.Â
Just as Aurelia finished saying goodbye to Dr. Wright, Gideon showed up.Â
“Any news from the tests?” Gideon came over and took over for Miranda, supporting Aurelia himself.Â
“Results won’t be out till this afternoon. Why are you more nervous than me?” Aurelia grinned at him.Â
They walked side by side, totally looking like boyfriend and girlfriend.Â
That sweet, cozy vibe between them wasn’t hidden at all. It was right there for the two people walking behind to see.Â
Aurelia wore her usual gentle smile, chatting with Gideon about who knows what as she looked up at him.Â
Gideon bent down, trying to catch what she was saying.Â
