Cassian fixed his gaze on Aurelia. 

Without so much as a glance, Aurelia brushed past him and headed straight outside. 

Tessa called out, “Cassian, have you been waiting long?” Just then, she and Alina stepped outside. 

Hearing Tessa, Cassian turned and took Alina’s luggage from her. “Not long. The car’s over there. Shall we walk over?” 

“Of course,” Tessa said, in high spirits. 

The mother and daughter followed Cassian to the car. 

While Cassian was loading the luggage, Alina spotted Aurelia waiting by the curb. She nudged Tessa, signaling her to look. 

Tessa gave Aurelia a cool, indifferent glance. 

Seeing Aurelia standing there all alone, with not a single person to pick her up, Tessa’s lips curled in a faint, mocking smile. 

Alina let out a soft laugh and whispered, “Poor thing.” 

Tessa felt the same way.

Aurelia had said it would probably be today. 

But she never expected Benjamin to personally come and pick her up from the hospital. 

“You really didn’t have to go to all this trouble,” Aurelia said, helping Benjamin into the car. 

“How’s your recovery going?” Benjamin asked, sounding genuinely concerned. 

“I’m feeling a lot better. If I wasn’t, the doctor wouldn’t have let me leave,” Aurelia replied with a smile. 

Benjamin nodded, satisfied. “That’s good. You need to take care of yourself. Your health should always come first.” 

Tessa and Alina saw for themselves as Benjamin picked up Aurelia and drove off, and neither of them looked pleased. 

Watching the car fade into the distance, Tessa’s gaze turned icy, bit by bit.

On the way back, Alina hinted at the topic as she asked Cassian, who was riding up front, “Cassian, now that you and Tessa are engaged, maybe it’s time for both families to meet and talk about the wedding plans?” 

“My dad’s health hasn’t been great these past six months, so he’s been resting. Weddings can get complicated, and I’d rather not trouble him. I’ll take care of everything myself,” Cassian replied. 

Alina frowned, about to say that marriage was a big deal. It was not really something parents should be left out of. 

But Cassian added, “I don’t really have any demands. Whatever Tessa wants, I’m good with.” 

That instantly put Alina at ease, wiping away any lingering annoyance she’d felt. 

Tessa, who’d been looking pretty gloomy, finally eased up after hearing Cassian’s response. 

“Mom, Cassian and I just got engaged, and you’re already talking about the wedding? Isn’t that a little too eager? People will think I’m desperate to get married!” Tessa pouted, playfully whining to her mom. 

Alina got the hint and quickly replied, “That’s just me being impatient. Tessa, you’re amazing. There are tons of guys after you. No one would ever think you’re desperate.” 

She didn’t forget to remind Cassian, “Cassian, you better step up your game. Tessa’s super p she had tons of nobles chasing her.” 

“Understood,” Cassian replied earnestly. 

Alina then brought up the Locke Group, mainly trying to find out how things were going there.

“The company’s being run by a professional manager now, so my dad doesn’t have to deal with much himself. I’ve got my own business to run, and honestly, I just can’t take on any more,” Cassian said. 

That left Alina at a loss for words. 

But she knew better than to press the issue and just left it at that.

Aurelia took the chance to invite him inside for a tour, and Benjamin happily agreed. 

He was genuinely interested in seeing how Aurelia’s company was coming along. 

Benjamin’s visit was totally unplanned, and he couldn’t help but worry that Aurelia might be caught off guard. After all, it was a brand–new company, and some hiccups were only natural. 

But to his surprise, everything was running smoothly from top to bottom. Everyone was on point and the place looked sharp. 

Even though Aurelia had been in the hospital these past few days, the company didn’t miss a beat and kept things in perfect order. 

By the end of the tour, Benjamin was even more impressed by Aurelia and her leadership. 

He sat down in Aurelia’s office for a bit, sipping the coffee she made, before finally getting down to business. 

“The Ashmont Chamber of Commerce is about to hold its annual conference. I’ve always hosted it myself, but with my health acting up this year, I just can’t handle it. I was wondering if you might be able to step in and represent me?” Benjamin said. 

Aurelia’s heart skipped a beat. She was so excited she couldn’t help but jump to her feet. 

Honestly, anyone would be stunned by this. 

This was the Ashmont Chamber of Commerce’s annual conference, the kind of event every entrepreneur dreams of attending. 

Even with her status as Ashmont’s top female tycoon, she still might not have made the cut for the chamber. 

The annual conference brought together the top entrepreneurs from every industry. It was the biggest, most prestigious, and most influential business event in Ashmont. 

“Mr. Locke, I’m honestly afraid I might not be up to it,” Aurelia admitted, her nerves showing. 

She’d tagged along with Cassian to all sorts of major meetings before, but always as his secretary, never the one calling the 

shots. 

She basically had zero experience being front and center at something this big. 

Truth was, she just didn’t have the confidence to step up and take on a responsibility like this out of nowhere.
