Chapter 216 

Stephen frowned and shot Aurelia another sideways glance. 

Aurelia lowered her head even further. 

Seeing Stephen’s reaction, Tessa smiled to herself. 

Stephen valued academic credentials, and when he found out Tessa had a PhD from a prestigious university, he struck up more of a conversation with her. 

Since she mentioned the paper, Stephen went with the flow and handed her a problem, saying it was from this year’s Math Olympiad and inviting her to give it a shot. 

Tessa accepted graciously and started looking it over with careful attention. 

It was a high–level Math Olympiad problem. 

She just stared at the paper, lost in thought, not even picking up her pen. 

Cassian glanced over at her. “Been a while since you’ve done one of these, huh? Feeling a bit rusty?” 

Tessa gave an embarrassed smile. “You caught me. It’s been ages since I’ve done a problem like this. I’m kinda struggling 

here.” 

“I get it,” Stephen said. “Most people get distracted by work and can’t really focus on problems like this anymore. Practice makes perfect, but it’s tough to stay sharp once you’re busy with a job.” 

Ryan leaned in for a look, curious. “Yeah, this one’s no joke.” 

Stephen turned to him. “Want to give it a shot?” 

Ryan quickly waved his hands. “Please, Dr. Horton, don’t make it hard for me. I haven’t touched this stuff in years. My mind just can’t keep up anymore.” 

Seeing that nobody could crack it, Stephen couldn’t hide his disappointment. 

He was just about to reach out and take the problem back. 

Tessa glanced over at Aurelia, who kept to herself the whole time, not saying a word or sharing any thoughts. 

‘She’s sitting this one out. Not like she could anyway. Smart move. Guess I can’t fault her for that, Tessa mused. 

“Ms. Corin, care to give it a try?” Tessa cut in out of the blue. 

Aurelia furrowed her brows, her eyes flashing with impatience at being singled out. ‘Why me? Seriously?‘ she thought. 

Stephen turned to her as well. “Aurelia, want to try?” 

Aurelia hadn’t even gotten a chance to answer. 

But Tessa spoke up first. “Sorry, maybe this is putting Ms. Corin on the spot. Let’s just hand it back to Dr. Horton.” 

Her sense of superiority was so overwhelming, it could’ve flooded the entire golf course. 

Aurelia hadn’t been interested at all. 

But since someone just had to make a scene, there was no way she was going to let that slide.

So, before Stephen could take the problem back, Aurelia snatched the paper right out of his hand, 

Everyone there paused in surprise, caught off guard. 

“I’ll give it a shot,” Aurelia said. 

Before Tessa could even react, Aurelia snatched the paper right out of her hands. 

Tessa paused, her eyes flashing with scorn for a split second. 

‘She’s really overestimating herself. Does she seriously think these Olympiad problems are just kid’s math?‘ Tessa sneered inwardly. 

But honestly, Tessa couldn’t wait to see Aurelia crash and burn. 

On the surface, she flashed a friendly smile. “Ms. Corin, don’t push yourself too hard. Math Olympiad problems are all about real brainpower. No tricks will get you through.” 

Her meaning couldn’t have been clearer. 

She was basically saying Aurelia only got ahead by cutting corners. 

Even Ryan, standing off to the side, frowned. He thought Tessa was being pretty mean. 

He was just about to speak up for Aurelia, but then saw her grab the pen and start writing at lightning speed. 

Her pen flew across the page, smooth and fluid as water. 

She was completely unfazed throughout, cool and composed. 

Ryan was so stunned he was left momentarily speechless. 

Tessa caught the whole thing, and her inner scoff just got louder. 

‘She’s really selling it,’ Tessa thought. 

By now, she’d realized Aurelia always fakes being cool under pressure.

it bluntly, she’s got nerves of steel. 

She bluffed her way through just to grab everyone’s attention. 

Right now, all eyes were on Aurelia. Stephen and Ryan couldn’t look away. 

‘She’s got some real moves. Hope she doesn’t bolt when she gets exposed, Tessa thought to herself. 

Tessa turned to say something to Cassian, but realized his attention was fixed on Aurelia too. 

His expression stayed cool and distant, but he was completely absorbed. 

He didn’t even notice Tessa watching him, and his brow arched ever so slightly, barely noticeable, 

For some reason, Tessa’s heart suddenly sank. She was just about to call out to him. 

Aurelia set her pen down, calm as ever. “All done. Dr. Horton, can you check if I got it right?” 

Ryan blinked in disbelief. “That fast?” 

Ryan was stunned. She finished in just five minutes?

Even Tessa couldn’t hide her shock for a moment. 

Stephen took the answer sheet, pushed up his glasses, and gave it a serious look. 

He checked out Aurelia’s solution, step by step, and her final answer. 

Stephen looked genuinely impressed as he said, “That’s right! Absolutely correct! And honestly, your solution is even more impressive than this year’s Olympiad champion’s!” 

When Stephen said that, Tessa’s eyes widened in disbelief. 

‘No way, Tessa thought, totally stunned.. 

‘How could Aurelia actually get it right?‘ Tessa couldn’t wrap her head around it. 

Stephen turned to Ryan, beaming. “After the contest, the official website posted this problem and invited folks from all over the world to give it a shot. Someone online came up with the exact same approach as Aurelia!” 

Tessa, still stunned, suddenly put two and two together. 

‘So it turns out Aurelia just copied some random netizen’s solution, Tessa sneered to herself. 

‘She almost got away with it,‘ Tessa thought, rolling her eyes. 

But Tessa didn’t have time to call her out. She had her own agenda for being here today. 

She was here to get to know Ryan. 

Ryan had been a bit distant with her earlier, so Tessa was racking her brain for a topic that might help her get closer to him. 

“I heard you’re really into golf, Ryan. I’m not too shabb 

myself. How about a quick match?” 

Cassian jumped in to help her out. 

Anyone who had looked into Ryan knew he was crazy about golf. 

That was exactly why Cassian brought it up. 

“Sure! Actually, before you all arrived, I was just telling Dr. Horton I was worried today’s ga back’s been bothering him these past couple days,” Ryan said. 

Aurelia jumped in, “Is your lower back acting up again? Have you been sitting too much lately?” 

“No, not at all,” Stephen shot back, denying it immediately.

Tessa was grabbing a golf club for Cassian when she overheard Aurelia chatting with Stephen. 

She raised an eyebrow, a hint of disdain flickering in her eyes. 

‘She really knows how to butter people up, Tessa thought, rolling her eyes. 

Stephen dreaded seeing doctors, and when Aurelia mentioned it, his expression darkened. 

“Don’t meddle in my affairs,” he said, a bit annoyed. 

Aurelia just let out a helpless sigh.

‘Man, this stubborn old guy, still terrified of doctors, she thought. 

Tessa nearly laughed out loud when she heard Stephen’s reply. 

‘Isn’t Aurelia supposed to be great at reading the room?‘ Tessa thought. 

‘How does she not notice that Dr. Horton clearly doesn’t like her?‘ Tessa scoffed to herself. 

‘She’s totally playing dumb. She’s got some real thick skin. She couldn’t help but feel a wave of disdain, Tessa thought. 

“Cassian, use this club. I cleaned it up just for you,” Tessa said cheerfully, handing it over with a bright grin. 

She even straightened his collar for him, saying, “Go get ‘em!” 

Ryan glanced over at Aurelia, who was sitting next to Stephen. “Aurelia, not joining us?” 

“I’m just an average player. Wouldn’t want to make a fool of myself in front of you, Ryan,” Aurelia replied. 

“No worries! Let’s all play. How about two on two?” Ryan said. 

Tessa arched an eyebrow at Aurelia, lips curling in a mocking smile. 

‘Does Aurelia even know how to play golf?‘ Tessa thought. 

‘Golf isn’t some bargain sport. With Aurelia’s family situation, there’s no way she could afford to learn, Tessa snorted inwardly. 

‘Average player? Yeah right, that’s just her cover. Truth is, she probably doesn’t even know the basics, Tessa thought.
