“Just now. Charlie said you had a meeting, so I thought I’d wait for you to finish before coming over,” Aurelia replied. 

She stood across from the group, her eyes drifting over to Tessa. 

Tessa’s makeup was carefully done, but it couldn’t hide the tiredness etched on her face. 

It wasn’t the kind of fatigue you get from working hard; it looked more like the kind that comes from living too wild. 

“You should’ve let me know ahead of time. Then you wouldn’t have had to make a trip for nothing,” Wade said. 

He paused, sounding a bit resigned, and asked Aurelia, “So, do you not have my number, or did you just never add me on WhatsApp?” 

“I’ll make sure to next time,” Aurelia replied with a faint smile. “Go ahead and get back to work. Don’t worry about me.” 

Wade paused, then asked, “Why don’t you join us? Might be good to get a feel for the policies.” 

These meetings were usually about conveying directives from the top, helping entrepreneurs get a better grasp of the policies and the national situation. 

Aurelia had a lot on her plate. InquireMind’s IPO was just around the corner, and she still had to push forward with the Accenco–MegaTech merger. She really couldn’t spare the time, so she politely turned down Wade’s invitation. 

Tessa’s lips curled into a faint smile. ‘Aurelia sure knows how to come up with excuses,‘ she thought. 

‘But come on, who’d actually buy that?‘ Tessa mused. ‘Everyone here runs a bunch of companies. Like anyone here isn’t swamped.’ 

‘Truth is, she just doesn’t have the guts to stick around, she thought. Big projects like high–temp superconductors? That’s not even in her orbit. At least she knows when to back off. No point trying to squeeze into a crowd she can’t mix with.‘ 

Aurelia chatted briefly with Wade before making a quick exit. 

Wade didn’t tear his gaze away until Aurelia disappeared into the elevator, then he called everyone over to head to the conference room. 

Tessa had been watching Aurelia closely, so of course she noticed the way Wade acted around her. 

She was genuinely stunned, her face freezing in disbelief. 

‘Wade, interested in Aurelia?‘ Tessa wondered. 

Tessa just couldn’t wrap her head around it. 

‘Has Wade really got such lousy taste?‘ she thought. 

On the way to the conference room, Wade ran into a senior official sent by the higher–ups to inspect Ashmont. 

He stopped and greeted him, “Scott, what brings you here?” 

“Just here to check on the work. You’re doing great, Wade,” Scott said with a nod of approval. 

Since both of them were busy with official business, they didn’t have time for small talk.

But Scott took Wade’s hand and asked, “I heard your dad’s not feeling well. How’s he doing? Is he getting better?” 

“It’s the same old issue, nothing serious,” Wade replied. 

“Once things calm down, I’ll come by and pay my respects,” Scott said. 

Charlie had already ushered everyone else into the conference room. 

Tessa hung back for a bit. 

She knew Scott. 

He was a big shot from Northvale, someone with real clout. 

She’d seen him before when she went to pick up Daniel. 

Back then, he was surrounded by a bunch of other top brass, so Tessa, just curious, had asked Daniel and got the scoop on 

him. 

She never imagined Wade actually knew Scott. 

And from the way they talked, they seemed pretty close. 

If Scott was talking about visiting Wade’s family in person, they must be a big deal. 

Tessa’s mind whirled as she glanced at Wade again. 

Wade treated her just like everyone else. “Ms. Rowe, please, come on in.” 

“Alright,” Tessa replied, following him into the conference room. 

As soon as the meeting wrapped up at noon, Tessa took the opportunity to invite everyone out for lunch. 

That included Wade. 

But Wade politely declined, saying he had other things to take care of. 

Tessa flashed a smile. “Mr. Lautner, even if you’re swamped, you still need to eat, right? You’ve been running around for us all morning. Let us buy you lunch to show our appreciation.” 

“That’s really not necessary, Ms. Rowe. I’m just doing my job, not working for anyone in particular,” Wade said with a polite nod before heading off. 

Tessa watched him walk away, her eyes flickering with something unreadable. 

While everyone was eating, Tessa took the chance to call Daniel and ask about the connection between Scott and Wade.

Normally, Kyler would reply to her messages in a flash. 

But this time, he didn’t respond for ages. 

‘He must be busy. He’ll get back to me when he has a chance, Tessa thought, not giving it much more consideration. 

In fact, Kyler saw her message almost as soon as she sent it. 

He stared at it for a while, but he just didn’t feel that spark anymore. 

After a trip to Ashmont University, once he learned Tessa had gotten between Aurelia and Cassian, Kyler found himself tangled up in feelings for her he couldn’t even begin to sort out.

Elias, who was busy with official business, suddenly remembered and asked Kyler. 

Kyler pressed his lips together, then finally nodded, forced to admit the truth. 

Elias Harvey looked a bit disappointed. “The tech industry is booming right now. If we could get a piece of that pie, it’d be a huge boost for Evergreen Group. Take InquireMind, the one Regal Investment backed in Ashmont. 

“It’s only been out for less than four months, and they’re already prepping for their first IPO. There’s a lot you could learn from them.” 

Elias’s words left Kyler speechless. 

When he didn’t get a response, Elias looked up from his documents, a puzzled expression on his face. “Why so quiet?” 

Kyler finally spoke, a little uncomfortable. “Yeah, I know about that project.” 

Back then, Wade and Scott both tried to set me up with the right people, but I shot them down. 

Never thought InquireMind would blow up like this. 

Honestly, he was pretty bummed. Since coming back, he hadn’t managed to make anything happen. 

Kyler paused, then added, “Regal Investment is the one running the MegaTech merger too.” 

Even Elias was taken aback. “Who’s in charge at Regal Investment? Must be someone really capable.” 

“Aurelia,” Kyler replied. 

Elias frowned. “Why does that name sound so familiar?” 

He thought for a moment, then it clicked. “Oh, right, she’s that friend of your senior, Gideon Marrick.” 

He’d only met her once, but she was gorgeous and had a great figure. Never would’ve guessed she was this capable. 

“Since you’re always in Ashmont, you should try to pick up a thing or two from her. And Wade’s there too, right? He’s always in the loop. Keeping in touch with him could really do you some good,” Elias reminded him. 

Kyler mumbled, “Yeah, I know.”
