Tessa chimed in from the side, “Mom, why are you being so formal with Cassian? You’re acting like strangers.” 

Even though Aurelia wasn’t really paying attention, she knew the mother and daughter were teaming up, putting on an act just to get a reaction out of her. 

Those words were clearly meant for her to hear. 

Now, Aurelia knew exactly who Tessa took after. 

Aurelia just ignored them and went off with Ella to get the tests done. 

“What’s going on with the ward? Cassian was asking the nurse for details. 

The Locke family had two private rooms reserved at this hospital. 

Every time Tessa was hospitalized before, she was always put in one of those private rooms. 

So when Alina came in for her post–op check–up this time, she just assumed she’d get a VIP room, only to be told it was already occupied. 

The nurse was clearly intimidated by Cassian. After all, he was the big boss of the hospital. 

“It’s just… someone’s already staying there, the nurse said nervously. 

“Who would dare take this room without Cassian’s permission?” Alina demanded, her brows furrowed. “Don’t tell me someone at this hospital is playing favorites? 

The nurse’s face went pale. “We wouldn’t dare.” 

“Then tell me, who’s the one staying in that room?” Alina pressed, her tone sharp. 

The nurse had no choice but to pull out the patient roster and show it to her. 

“Ella Corin? Who on earth is that?” Alina shot Cassian a confused look. “Cassian, do you know her or not?” 

Cassian didn’t bother hiding it. “Yeah, I know her.” 

Tessa knew who Ella was too. 

She’d already checked Aurelia’s file at Honoria Capital, and knew that Ella was her mother. 

So when she saw that name, her expression froze for a second, and a flash of irritation darted through her eyes. 

“Did you sign off on this?” Tessa pressed Cassian, her voice sharp. 

When Cassian immediately denied it, her expression finally eased up. 

Then she said, “So Aurelia must’ve used her position back when she was your secretary to sneak her mom into this room.” 

What a petty trick! Tessa thought. 

Just have her thrown out. No need to let anyone mess with the rules,” Alina said offhandedly, like it was nothing. 

Tessa backed her up right away, which meant Cassian was the one who had to deal with it now. 

The air grew tense in an instant.

Chapter 241 

But then, a booming male voice cut through the tension. “Go ahead, try kicking her out and see what happens!” 

Abigail was pushing Benjamin toward the nurse station. 

Benjamin sat in his wheelchair, his face stern and his eyes blazing with a dangerous glint. 

Alina had never met Benjamin in person, but she’d seen plenty of interviews and news about him.

Her earlier arrogance vanished in an instant, replaced by a humble and proper demeanor. “Mr. Locke, hi. I’m Tessa’s mother.” 

Benjamin didn’t even bother looking at her. His cold, sharp gaze landed straight on Cassian. “So what, I don’t even get to decide who gets a room now?” 

Even sitting in his wheelchair, head tilted up, his aura was so strong it made everyone feel like they were shrinking in their 

seats. 

“I’m the one who put her in that room. Anyone got a problem with that?” Benjamin’s voice was icy and full of authority. 

After giving Cassian a frosty stare, Benjamin swept his cold eyes over the mother and daughter, making them shrink back, not daring to make a sound. 

Tessa pressed her lips together, didn’t dare make a sound, and her face went rigid. 

Alina was more experienced, so she kept her cool. “Mr. Locke, you misunderstood us. That’s not what we meant.” 

“Since you’re the one who arranged it, then it’s your call,” she added. 

Then she turned to Tessa and said, “Don’t worry about it. I’m fine with a regular room, really. Cassian was just trying to help, and I get it.” 

Benjamin didn’t bother responding. He didn’t even think they were worth his time. 

He ordered Abigail, “Take me out to the garden for some fresh air. The air in here is foul.” 

Tessa’s expression soured even further. 

Only after Benjamin left did Cassian arrange for Alina to be put in a regular room. 

After being publicly shut down by Benjamin, both Tessa and Alina looked pretty sour. 

Aurelia had no idea any of this had happened. 

It wasn’t until later that afternoon, when Mia woke up, swung by the hospital to see her, and picked up all the juicy gossip from the nurses. 

“You actually missed all that drama?” Mia exclaimed, slapping her thigh in disappointment. 

After hearing Mia’s vivid retelling, Aurelia couldn’t help but feel a little regretful that she’d missed all the drama. 

But then Mia snickered, “Cassian’s a total simp for Tessa. He’s got it bad for her.” 

“What makes you say that?” Aurelia asked, munching on a slice of watermelon. 

“Isn’t it all over the internet? Guys only show love in two ways,” Mia said. “First, he spends money on you. Second, he helps you solve your problems.” 

“Everything else is just for show!” Mia snorted.

Mia chomped down on her watermelon, smacking her lips. “So, when do you think Cassian is finally gonna go bankrupt?” 

Compared to the laid–back vibe in Ella’s room, things were a lot more tense over on Alina’s side. 

After making sure Alina was settled in, Cassian headed straight back to the office. 

Tessa, on the other hand, stuck around. 

But neither Tessa nor her mom was feeling great. 

Especially when they thought about how Benjamin treated Aurelia compared to Tessa; the difference was like night and day, and it really got under their skin. 

Since Tessa came back home, she’d only run into Benjamin a handful of times. 

But every single time, he never even looked her in the eye, and he’d never once publicly acknowledged who she was to him. 

Alina had it even rougher. 

She’d tried more than once to get a meeting with Benjamin, but he never gave her the chance. 

This time she finally saw him face–to–face, but Benjamin couldn’t have cared less. 

“That Benjamin is really losing it!” Alina grumbled, getting more and more worked up. “He doesn’t even know who’s close to him and who’s not.” 

“Now you get why I’ve had to put up with so much crap from Benjamin,” Tessa snapped, just as annoyed as her mom. 

“Still, no matter how mad I get, he’s Cassian’s father,” Tessa muttered. 

Alina might’ve been pissed, but she wasn’t stupid. “He still runs the whole Locke Group. That’s what really matters.” 

As soon as the Locke Group got mentioned, Alina suddenly remembered some juicy gossip she’d heard floating around in the wives‘ circle not long ago. 

Rumor had it, Benjamin had already gotten a lawyer to make his will. 

“Try to see if you can get Cassian to drop any hints about what’s in Benjamin’s will,” Alina suggested, keeping her tone casual but purposeful. 

Honestly, Tessa couldn’t be bothered about that. 

Benjamin only has Cassian, after all. 

Who else would Benjamin even leave the Locke Group to?‘ Tessa pused. 

What really bugged Tessa was why Benjamin acted like Aurelia was such a big deal. 

She mentioned her doubts to her mom. 

“Either Aurelia’s got some serious tricks and knows how to work people, or Benjamin just thinks she’s talented and actually admires her,” Alina figured.

nonstop. 

“She snagged that massive 30–billion–dollar port deal, pulled off the MegaTech Tech takeover, and word is, she’s already getting InquireMind ready to go public. You’re miles behind her! Why would Benjamin ever take you seriously?” Alina shot back, her words biting and unforgiving. 

Alina’s harsh words just made Tessa even more annoyed. 

“Sitting around feeling sorry for yourself won’t change a thing. Right now, there’s only one move left,” Alina said, her eyes darkening with ruthless resolve. 

“Do whatever it takes to block InquireMind’s IPO,” she said.
