Chapter 246 

Following Zofia’s wishes, Darren didn’t hold a memorial service. 

Instead, he personally scattered her ashes in the international waters where they first met. 

The only thing Aurelia was grateful for was that by giving up the Coreson deal, she secured the successful merger for MegaTech. 

So Zofia wouldn’t have to carry that regret. 

Aurelia lingered in Grendel City for two extra days. 

Before she left, Darren caught up with her for a final chat. 

Darren told Aurelia, “MegaTech meant everything to Zofia. Promise me you’ll take good care of it.” 

He thought to himself, ‘Even if I didn’t ask, Aurelia would never let Zofia down.’ 

But Aurelia still gave her word, “I’ll make MegaTech bigger and better than ever.” 

Darren looked at Aurelia, his eyes a little vacant, like he was looking right past her at someone else.

Right before leaving, Aurelia thought of the guy who’d saved her, risking his own life, and asked Darren about him again. 

“Bad timing. He’s away on business,” Darren said. 

Aurelia was a bit disappointed, but she just had to hope she’d catch him next time. 

She and Walter headed straight back to Ashmont, and by the time they landed, it was already the early hours of Monday morning. 

Miranda was there to pick her up, looking all downcast and barely saying a word. 

Aurelia couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? Did you have a fight with your boyfriend?” 

“No way!” Miranda shot back. 

“Then what’s up?” Aurelia pressed. 

“Aurelia, those accounting and law firms we’d pretty much locked in? They all suddenly backed out and decided to drop us,” Miranda said, looking frustrated. 

She’d kept it under wraps so she wouldn’t bother Aurelia while she was dealing with Zofia’s farewell. 

Aurelia hesitated for a few seconds before asking, “Did HelixTech approach them?” 

Miranda nodded in silence. 

Then she burst out, “Honoria Capital has its own accounting and legal teams! Tessa could just use her own people, but instead she insists on poaching ours. She’s totally doing this on purpose!” 

It’s outright bullying! 

Aurelia rubbed her temples. 

She really didn’t expect Tessa to be so shameless about it.

“As soon as it’s light out, set up a meeting with Mr. Blake Anderson from Everwell Group. I want to talk to him face–to–face,” Aurelia said. 

She wanted to give it one more shot. After all, she’d already wasted so much time trying to connect with Everwell Group and 

Worthsun. 

It would be a real shame to give up now. 

Miranda sighed inwardly, ‘I’ll give it a shot, but I’m not holding my breath. 

Aurelia turned to Walter. “Forget home. Let’s go straight to the office.” 

Miranda blurted out, “You’re not even going home to rest? Even a couple hours of sleep would help! Have you seen your eyes? They’re so red!” 

“Gotta rework the proposal, see if I can get Blake on board,” Aurelia said. 

“You’re unbelievable…” Miranda just shook her head, at a loss for words. 

She knew there was no changing Aurelia’s mind, so all she could do was feel bad for her. 

Just how tough do you have to be so people stop messing with you?‘ Miranda thought to herself, feeling helpless. 

Early the next morning, Miranda told Aurelia she hadn’t been able to get through to Blake. 

“Never mind, I’ll just go find him myself,” Aurelia said. 

This couldn’t wait. 

Aurelia rushed over to Everwell Group, only to be told that Blake was out of the office. 

She asked if he’d be back soon, saying she was willing to wait. 

The secretary just shrugged and said she had no idea, her tone making it obvious Aurelia wasn’t welcome to stick around. 

But Aurelia still waited for a while, and to her surprise, the ones who finally showed up were Tessa and Blake together. 

Tessa came in with Blake, the two of them chatting and laughing, looking like they were having a great time. 

When Blake saw Aurelia, he looked a bit sheepish for a moment. 

But as a seasoned businessman, he quickly composed himself and greeted her with a warm smile. “Ms. Corin, when did you get here? Why didn’t you let me know in advance?” 

Aurelia decided to save him some face. “Sorry, I came in a rush and forgot to give you a heads–up. Hope I’m not bothering you.” 

“Don’t mention it, Ms. Corin. Actually, I was about to get in touch with you myself about our collaboration… Blake said. 

“I just came to say sorry, Mr. Anderson. We’ll have to put the partnership on hold for now,” Aurelia replied, not beating around the bush, 

Her directness caught Blake off guard for a moment. 

He could only manage an awkward smile. “Well, maybe we’ll have another chance to work together in the future.” 

Aurelia glanced at Tessa, catching that self–satisfied, petty look in her eves. like she’d just pulled off some cheap trick and was

As she brushed past Tessa, Aurelia paused for a beat. 

With a teasing, almost taunting tone, she said, “Ms. Rowe, is your habit of always grabbing what belongs to others because you’re just that insecure?” 

Tessa’s expression froze, her smile instantly wiped away. 

Blake looked battled. “What do you mean by that?” 

Aurelia just gave a faint smile. “Nothing, Mr. Anderson. See you around.” 

She didn’t give Tessa a hard time. 

After all, Tessa was the one Cassian cherished most. 

Disrespecting Tessa was basically disrespecting Cassian. 

He was always so protective of her. If she pushed too far and he got pissed, things could get messy, 

After all, Aurelia hadn’t yet taken full control of all the resources and channels Ascend Group had opened up to MegaTech. She had to keep a line open. No sense in cutting things off completely just yet. 

As Aurelia stepped outside, reaching for her phone to call Walter. Gideon’s call popped up before she could even dial. 

She answered, and Gideon’s voice came through. “You at Everwell Group right now?” 

Aurelia blinked, surprised. “Wait, how’d you know?” 

“I’m here too. Just spotted your car,” Gideon said. 

“Can we talk? I’ve got something I need to discuss with you,” he added. 

Gideon’s car was parked right downstairs, and Aurelia spotted it the moment she stepped out of the building. 

But Cassian was there too, waiting by the curb. 

He was there waiting for someone as well. 

He and Gideon exchanged a quick greeting and chatted for a bit. 

When Gideon saw Aurelia coming out, he said to Cassian, “That’s who I’m here for.” 

Cassian looked at Aurelia with zero warmth, his gaze cold and detached. 

Aurelia breezed right past him, heading straight for Gideon with a big grin. 

“Been waiting long?” she asked. 

“Not really,” Gideon replied, reaching out to ruffle her hair like he always did. 

Meanwhile, Cassian pulled out a cigarette and lit up, his expression visibly cold. 

“Let’s grab a quiet spot and sit down for a bit,” Gideon said. 

Aurelia agreed without hesitation. “Yeah, sounds good.” 

Gideon opened the car door for her, and just as Aurelia was getting in and fastening her seatbelt, Tessa stepped outside.

“Cassian, why didn’t you tell me you were coming to pick me up?” Tessa called out to him. 

She was smiling at first, but the moment she saw Aurelia and Gideon together, her smile faded in an instant. 

It wasn’t until Cassian opened the car door for her that her expression cased up a little.

She shot Aurelia a sarcastic look before getting in, and after Cassian got in too, she asked him, “Why are you smoking again?” 

“Nothing much. So, how’d it go with Blake?” Cassian asked. 

Tessa immediately perked up, almost showing off. “Blake’s super interested in HelixTech. He’s on board with us now.” 

Cassian just nodded, clearly pleased. 

“Cassian,” Tessa called his name again. 

“Mm?” he responded. 

“If HelixTech gets listed, will you take me to meet Mr. Locke?” Tessa asked, her tone expectant. 

Cassian replied without missing a beat, “Okay.” 

That gave Tessa a huge boost of confidence. 

With Cassian in her corner, Tessa felt unstoppable. She’d show Benjamin Locke what she was really capable of.

At the café, Gideon got right to it as soon as they sat down. “So, have you been running into any trouble lately?” 

Aurelia let out a helpless sigh. “Good news never gets out, but bad news spreads like wildfire, huh?” 

“Hey, I’ve told you before. Whenever you’re in a jam, you know you can come to me. Maybe I can help, or at least give you some advice,” Gideon said. 

Aurelia shook her head. “I can’t just go asking for help every time something goes wrong.” 

‘Handle your own problems. No one’s obligated to help you, Aurelia reminded herself. 

Right after she said it, that thought flashed through her mind.
