Walter nodded, his expression grim. 

Aurelia sucked in a breath, her heart pounding. It took her a long moment to steady herself. 

Aurelia asked, “What did the traffic cops say?” 

“They’re looking into it. Should have something soon,” Walter replied. 

Aurelia finally let out a breath. “Just watch your back from now on.”

It was easy to dodge an open attack, but the real danger came from the ones she never saw coming. 

Vanessa rushed over to the Rowe family, looking visibly anxious. 

When she stepped inside and spotted Daniel, she quickly played it cool, acting like she was just stopping by to say hi, not mentioning her real reason for coming at all. 

Still, she couldn’t hide how nervous she looked. 

Alina noticed something was off and quickly made up an excuse to get Vanessa alone in her room, saying she needed help picking out a dress for the party. 

The moment they stepped inside, Alina closed the door behind them and lowered her voice, “Did it work?” 

Vanessa shook her head, her face full of worry. “No.” 

Alina stared at her in disbelief. “Seriously?” 

“That bitch is just too lucky! The guy we sent got himself killed instead,” Vanessa muttered. 

That was exactly why Vanessa had rushed over to see Alina.

Alina was fuming when she found out Aurelia had dodged the bullet. 

But no matter how pissed she was, a failure was still a failure. Getting mad wouldn’t change a thing. 

Vanessa looked worried. “Do you think they’ll ever trace this back to us?”

“You’re really going to go after her again?” Vanessa asked, disbelief written all over her face. 

The man was dying over this. 

Alina shot her a glare. “Keep your voice down!” 

Vanessa quickly clapped a hand over her mouth, terrified someone outside might overhear. 

Alina said with chilling calm, “She’s an obstacle standing in Tessa’s way. She needs to be eliminated.”

Stephen was scheduled to give a lecture at Ashmont University on Wednesday. 

Aurelia made sure to clear her schedule for it, since grad school was on the horizon, she had to buckle down and study hard. 

Walter accompanied Aurelia to campus. 

Ever since the accident, he’d been by her side almost 24/7, acting like her personal bodyguard. 

Since Walter had just finished up a shareholders‘ meeting, they showed up late and had to settle for seats way in the back. 

Stephen had just been named an academician earlier this year, and he was a total rockstar in the academic world. His lecture hall was packed to the brim. 

Aurelia finally spotted a seat in the corner, but as she got closer, she realized Kyler was sitting right next to it. 

She didn’t hesitate for a second. She just walked over and sat down, cool and confident. 

Kyler had been totally focused on Tessa in the front row, and only snapped out of it when he noticed Aurelia had taken the seat beside him. 

His eyes instantly went cold, and he instinctively leaned away, putting some distance between them. 

Aurelia wasn’t paying him any attention, so she didn’t notice any of his little moves. 

The lecture started soon, and Aurelia listened intently, jotting down notes in her notebook from time to time. 

If it weren’t for the fact that they were in a public lecture hall, Kyler would’ve totally thrown some shade her way. 

‘Does she even get what’s going on in this lecture? Is she even writing anything that makes sense?‘ he thought. 

‘She’s really putting on a show, acting all studious. If you didn’t know better, you’d think she was some kind of study nerd,‘ he 

scoffed to himself. 

‘Bet she’s just here for the clout, so she can brag later about hearing some big–shot professor talk. Just another typical

By the time Gideon arrived, the lecture was almost over, and the assistant was up front giving the closing summary. 

Some people started leaving carly, and the seat next to Aurelia was left vacant. 

She was so caught up in her notes that she didn’t even notice someone new had sat down beside her. 

It wasn’t until she finished her last note and put her pen away that Gideon finally spoke up. “Looks like you really soaked it all in.” 

“What are you doing here?” Aurelia asked, surprised. 

Gideon replied, “I figured you’d show up, so I swung by after I wrapped things up. How’s it going? Is it giving you a hard time? Stephen’s grad program is no walk in the park.” 

“Just gotta tough it out. I already said I’d do it,” Aurelia said. 

“You got this. I believe in you,” Gideon encouraged her. 

Kyler and Gideon might’ve been under the same mentor, but they were basically from different generations. There was a huge time gap between them. 

When Kyler joined Stephen’s program, Gideon had already gone abroad, so they hardly ever ran into each other. 

Plus, since Gideon had dated Tessa before, Kyler was never exactly a fan of his senior. 

Whenever they bumped into each other, it was just a quick nod, barely even counted as saying hi. 

This time, with Gideon and Aurelia chatting animatedly, Kyler didn’t even bother to acknowledge him. 

He stood up and made a beeline for Tessa in the front row. 

Tessa’s notebook was packed. She’d scribbled pages full of notes. 

Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Kyler. “Didn’t expect to see you here!” 

“Saw your Instagram post, and since I happened to be in Ashmont, I figured I’d swing by,” Kyler said. Then he asked, “Are you seriously thinking about applying to Professor Horton’s grad program?” 

“Absolutely. Professor Horton’s the top dog in the industry. Being his student would be a dream come true,” Tessa replied. 

As she spoke, Kyler couldn’t help but think she was practically glowing. 

‘So studious and eager to learn. That’s the Tessa I really admire,‘ Kyler thought to himself. 

‘Unlike some people… Kyler thought, immediately thinking of Aurelia. 

He remembered Aurelia was also applying to Professor Horton’s grad program, so he mentioned it to Tessa. 

Tessa looked genuinely speechless. 

“Is she trying to copy me again?” Tessa said under her breath. 

“What do you mean?” Kyler asked.

“Who knows, maybe she’s just doing it for show. Wouldn’t be surprised if she tries to milk it for attention later,” Tessa said. 

Kyler paused, thinking, ‘Yeah, that actually sounds about right!
