The uncertainty vanished as soon as he and Tessa left the lecture hall. 

The afternoon sun was blazing, so Gideon took the outer side of the path, blocking the harsh sunlight for her. 

As they walked, he kept his face turned toward Aurelia the whole way. 

He watched her with total focus, not looking away for a second. 

He was downright obvious about how he felt, making his intentions clear for anyone to see. 

Tessa’s face lost all warmth, her expression turning icy. 

She stared at the two of them for a moment, taking a deep breath to steady herself. 

After a moment, the frost in her gaze melted away. 

Kyler saw it too. 

Being a guy himself, he knew all too well the look a man gave the woman he liked. 

He was taken aback, but couldn’t help frowning. 

He never expected Gideon to be such a hopeless romantic, going to all this trouble for Aurelia. 

But even with all his scheming, it still came down to whether Aurelia could handle it herself. 

Aurelia and Gideon stepped out of the gate together, spotting Cassian waiting by the entrance. 

He must be here to pick up Tessa. 

When he saw them walking side by side, Cassian’s gaze flickered for a moment. 

Aurelia didn’t even glance his way, not paying him any attention at all. 

Instead, she turned to Gideon beside her and asked, “Did you drive here or get a ride?” 

Gideon paused for half a second before saying, “I didn’t drive.” 

Aurelia didn’t question it and just said, “Then I’ll give you a lift.” 

“Okay,” Gideon replied. That was exactly what he’d been hoping for. 

Truth was, he’d actually driven himself, but he fibbed just to snag a little more time with Aurelia. 

But once he got in, he realized it was the chauffeur driving, not her, 

Even if they weren’t alone, he was content just being with her. 

After getting in, Gideon shot a look at Cassian outside through the tinted window. 

Cassian had already looked away and was heading over to Tessa. 

Gideon stole another look at Aurelia. 

She was totally focused on her phone, dealing with work stuff, looking like Cassian was nothing to her now.

Gideon finally felt his chest loosen, relief flooding through him. 

No one knew just how long he’d been waiting for this day. 

He knew Aurelia inside out. If she hadn’t truly moved on, there was no way she’d ever open her heart to someone new. 

If he’d tried to confess before, she would’ve just turned him down. 

But now, finally, the moment he’d been waiting for was here. 

If InquireMind wasn’t about to go public and Aurelia wasn’t caught up with her grad school entrance exams, he would’ve told her how he felt without a second thought. 

Gideon told himself to wait just a little longer. 

They’d already made plans, and soon enough, his efforts would pay off.

At the school gate, Kyler and Tessa came out together. 

He was hoping to take the opportunity to ask Tessa out for dinner. 

But before Kyler could say anything, Tessa called out excitedly, “Cassian, what are you doing here? Weren’t you supposed to have an important meeting?” 

“It got canceled. I came to pick you up,” Cassian said. 

When Tessa realized Cassian had canceled an important meeting just to come get her, all her earlier gloom disappeared. She skipped over and grabbed his arm, then turned back to Kyler, beaming. “Kyler, come have dinner with us!” 

If Cassian hadn’t shown up, Kyler would’ve happily agreed. Honestly, he probably would’ve asked her out before Tessa even said anything. 

But with Cassian there, he just wasn’t feeling it anymore. So he tossed out a random excuse and said maybe another time. 

Tessa just laughed and said, “Then let’s do it next time, okay?” 

Then Tessa shot Cassian a playful look. “Didn’t Chole say that meeting this afternoon was super important? How come it got canceled? Don’t tell me you bailed just to pick me up?” 

“You got me,” Cassian said, sounding totally indulgent. 

Tessa was grinning ear to ear now that she knew the truth. “Oh, you’re going to get the shareholders talking, you know.” 

“With me around, who’d dare say a word about you?” 

They hopped into the car, still laughing and chatting away. 

Tessa was so focused on talking with Cassian that she completely forgot to wave goodbye to Kyler. 

Kyler just stood there, listening to their conversation and watching as they got into the car, still laughing and chatting together. 

Their relationship was even better than he’d thought. 

He was left standing there, his eyes shadowed with disappointment.

That evening, Miranda called Aurelia to ask what she wanted for breakfast the next morning. 

Aurelia was so buried in grad school prep that she honestly couldn’t think of a single thing. 

“Guess I’ll just send you a menu and you can pick whatever you want,” Miranda joked. 

“Look at you, finally figuring out how to work smarter,” Aurelia teased back. 

They chatted a little more before hanging up. 

Aurelia kept studying for a while longer, and when she finally glanced at the clock, it was already past eleven. 

She figured it was time to call it a night. After all, she had several important meetings lined up for tomorrow. 

She packed up her study materials, and before heading to her bedroom, she noticed the balcony door was still open, so she went over and closed it. 

Downstairs, she heard the faint sound of a bell. 

It was brief and muffled, but Aurelia still caught it. 

She paused for a second, then stuck her head out over the balcony, looking down to see what was going on. 

Only the streetlights and the tops of the trees stood out. Everything else was dead quiet. 

It felt almost like she’d imagined the whole thing. 

After a moment’s hesitation, Aurelia went back inside. She tried to lie down and sleep, but couldn’t shake it off. Restless, she got up and headed downstairs. 

The street was completely silent, not a breath of wind in the air. 

The warm yellow streetlights bathed the whole road in an empty glow. 

There were no cars, no people anywhere. 

Guess she really had imagined it. 

Aurelia turned around to head back, and saw the driver coming back from the convenience store with cigarettes and water. 

Walter looked genuinely surprised to see her. “Ms. Corin, you’re still up?” 

“I’m about to go to bed,” Aurelia replied, glancing at the energy drink in his hand. She paused, then said, “I’m fine here, really. You don’t have to wait around outside for me.” 

Walter kept his face calm, but his voice was resolute. “I can sleep in the car, honestly. You don’t need to worry about me.” 

He added, “Ms. Corin, you should go get some rest.” 

Seeing he wouldn’t budge, Aurelia just let it go. After a couple quick reminders, she headed upstairs to finally get some sleep. 

The next day, Aurelia spent the whole morning in meetings, and in the afternoon, she had to visit Toby’s factory for an inspection. 

The factory was out in the suburbs, so it was a bit of a drive. 

She used the time in the car to flip through her notes from yesterday. 

On the way, Walter’s phone suddenly went off.

The sound broke Aurelia’s concentration. She’d been totally lost in her notes, 

He hurried to silence it, shooting her an apologetic look. “Sorry, Ms. Corin, did I mess up your studying?” 

“No worries,” Aurelia said. “When did you change your ringtone?” 

“Just last night,” Walter replied. 

He looked confused. “Huh? What’s up?” 

Aurelia shook her head. “It’s nothing, I just thought it sounded nice.” 

Miranda joked, “Wow, when did you get so classy? A violin ringtone, really?” 

Walter just grinned. “Me? Classy? Nah, I just grabbed something random online.” 

Aurelia just chuckled silently and buried herself back in her notes. 

When they arrived at the factory, Toby was already waiting at the entrance. 

But to Aurelia’s surprise, Cassian was there too. 

Miranda muttered, “Don’t tell me Tessa’s here too?” 

Aurelia gave a little cough, shooting her a look to keep quiet. 

Miranda quickly zipped her lips. 

After greeting Toby, Aurelia gave Cassian a polite nod and said, “Didn’t expect you’d be here too, Mr. Locke.”
