Despite what Alina had said, Tessa still felt uneasy. Cassian had been out of Ashmont for the past few days, looking for new 

investors. 

He was probably swamped, and whenever she tried calling, he never answered. He did reply to her messages, but mostly when she was already asleep. By the time she woke up and got back to him, he was silent again. 

Tessa was stranded in Ashmont alone, facing a swarm of investors threatening to pull out on her own. The pressure was enough to make her head spin. 

Before going to bed that night, Tessa tried calling Cassian again. The phone rang for a long time. Just when she was about to give up, thinking he wouldn’t answer, the call finally went through. 

Tessa felt a wave of relief as she called out, “Cassian, you finally wrapped things up?” 

Cassian sounded exhausted, but his voice still had that familiar, magnetic warmth. “Almost. I’ll be back in Ashmont tomorrow. Thanks for all your hard work these past few days.” 

“Do you mean you’ve found new investors?” Tessa asked, her grip on her phone tightening a little. 

“Yeah, I’ll introduce them to you guys when we do the roadshows in Northvale,” Cassian replied. 

Hearing that, Tessa felt instantly reassured, and all the panic from the past few days was swept away. She felt confident again. 

“I’ll pick you up tomorrow,” Tessa said, her voice bubbling with excitement. 

“Alright,” Cassian replied. 

She had actually wanted to chat with him a little longer, maybe say something close and personal. ‘That’s just how guys are. When they’re exhausted, a little comfort or a bit of sweetness can really hit the spot, Tessa thought. 

However, before she could say anything else, Cassian had ended the call. Tessa froze for a moment, feeling inexplicably a little disappointed. This was the first time he had ever hung up on her. 

But then she felt she was making a fuss over nothing. Cassian had been working so hard for her and HelixTech, while she was hung up on such insignificant things. ‘It really is a bit petty of me, she thought. 

The following day, Tessa went all out with her makeup and drove personally to the airport to pick up Cassian. She arrived a little early; the plane hadn’t even landed yet. 

Someone who was also there for pickup recognized her and called out, “You’re Mr. Locke’s fiancée, right?” 

Tessa felt emotional tightness in her chest, a stifling wave of disappointment. ‘After working so hard for so long, in the end, I’m just Mr. Locke’s fiancée, she thought. 

But out of courtesy, she still smiled and greeted the person. Perhaps noticing Tessa wasn’t up for conversation, the person merely exchanged a few words with her and left after picking up someone. 

Not long after, Cassian came out from the arrivals gate. Tessa iminediately waved at him, calling out, “Cassian! Over here!” 

As soon as he saw her, he headed straight in her direction. Mia, less than ten feet away from Cassian, looked up. ‘Well, well, it’s actually Cassian the mutt and Tessa, Mia thought to herself. 

Just then, Miranda called, asking if she had already come out. She had parked her car outside, and if Mia had already come out, she would wait for her instead of pulling into the lot, risking traffic jams. 

Mia ran over and hopped into Miranda’s car. “Aurelia’s tied up in an important meeting and can’t excuse herself. So she sent

me to pick you up,” Miranda said. 

“Yeah, she already texted me on WhatsApp.” Mia replied. 

“I’ll bring you to meet up with Aurelia, and then we’ll head out for dinner together. The restaurant’s already reserved,” Miranda added. 

“It works for me,” Mia replied. 

Aurelia was really buried at work. After Mia arrived, she waited nearly an hour before Aurelia finally wrapped up the meeting. 

Mia couldn’t help but sigh, “I really don’t have what it takes to be a boss. I’d behave and stick to being a shareholder who collects dividends.” 

Before Aurelia could say much to Mia, someone walked over and started talking to Aurelia. 

“I was in Northvale on a business trip a couple of days ago, and I saw Mr. Locke having a meal with the boss from Nexora Capital. Looks like Nexora Capital might be investing in HelixTech,” the person said. 

It was Graham who spoke, but Aurelia was rather calm. Graham couldn’t help but ask, “You mean you’re not surprised?” 

‘That’s Nexora Capital in Northvale,‘ Graham thought. 

“What’s there to be surprised?” Aurelia grinned at Graham. “You really think he’d just abandon his fiancée?” Graham was instantly speechless. 

“High–temp superconductor is actually a solid project, just got some hiccups on the business side. If Nexora Capital jumps in, they could really turn the tide for HelixTech,” Aurelia said. 

“I heard Mr. Hoover from Evercrest is planning to pull out, but after hearing the news, he started wavering again,” Graham added. 

Aurelia chuckled. “Mr. Hoover really lives up to his nickname, ‘Hoover the Runner.” 

After a quick chat, they parted ways. Aurelia finally called out to Mia, “Let’s go, time to eat.” 

Mia was hunched over her phone when Aurelia called her. She responded without looking up, then swiftly texted the other party. 

[No teaming up with HelixTech.] 

[What?] 

Aurelia had the driver take a detour to the hospital to pick up Stephen, and then they all headed out to Thyme and Vine for dinner. 

Stephen handed Aurelia a stack of materials and told her to take a look when she had time, saying they would be helpful for her master’s program application. 

When they got to Thyme and Vine, the manager told them that the table Aurelia had booked earlier had been taken. To make up for it, he moved them to another private room in the north wing. Furthermore, they got a 20% discount on their 

meal. 

Aurelia didn’t mind. They were there to cat, not for the view. ‘Does it really matter where we eat?‘ Aurelia thought. ‘Food’s food, isn’t it?‘ 

Over in the west wing, Cassian and Tessa were the ones treating everyone to dinner. Jasper showed up early this time. After all, he felt quite guilty for standing her up previously. So he came without his dad knowing.

Chapter 265 

As soon as they were seated, Jasper turned to Cassian and asked, “Did you guys invite Professor Horton as well?” 

Tessa paused and said, “No, we didn’t.” 

“I ran into him outside just now. I thought he was here for this dinner,” Jasper explained. 

Tessa had a thought when she found out Stephen was dining here. She turned to Jasper and asked, “Where did you bump into him?” 

“East wing.” Jasper said. 

Tessa glanced at Cassian and said, “Cassian, I want to say hi to Professor Horton.” 

“Alright,” Cassian understood immediately and stood up. “I’ll go with you.” Tessa was obviously happy about that. 

Jasper had actually been worried about the two, but seeing them still getting along so well, he felt happy for them. 

After checking with the restaurant manager, Cassian led Tessa over to the east wing. When they got there, Aurelia had stepped out to take a call. Only Mia and Stephen were in the room. 

Tessa had met Mia before and knew she was Aurelia’s best friend, so her face went cold for an instant. ‘Wait, did Aurelia invite Professor Horton here?‘ Tessa wondered.

‘Wow, Aurelia actually managed to invite Professor Horton over! She probably used Gideon as a stepping stone to establish a connection with him. Her networking skills are indeed impressive. 

‘But didn’t Professor Horton dislike Aurelia previously?‘ Tessa thought, puzzled. She had seen that Stephen would get visibly impatient several times whenever Aurelia was around. 

Tessa pointedly ignored Mia and said to Stephen. “Professor Horton, what a coincidence running into you here. We’re hosting a dinner with some friends here tonight. If you don’t mind, why don’t you come join us?” Tessa said, her tone warm and inviting. 

Mia leaned back in her seat, eyes locked on Tessa with a sly, almost mischievous grin. Perhaps Mia’s stare was just too direct that when Tessa met her eyes for a moment, she turned away with a cool, dismissive look. 

Mia just snickered. Just then, Aurelia walked in. The moment Tessa saw Aurelia, her expression changed slightly.
