Jasper was never one to keep secrets, and he was just about to spill all of Aurelia’s secrets. But Cassian spoke up, his voice cold and flat. “It’s time to eat. We don’t have much time for lunch, and we can’t afford to mess up the afternoon exam.” 

That was enough to shut down the gossip. “Oh, right, Tessa has an exam this afternoon. Don’t let these irrelevant people distract you,” Karlie said. 

However, her expression was openly disdainful, and it was obvious she looked down on Aurelia. “But even if Tessa barely tries on the exam, she’d still wipe the floor with certain people,” Karlie sneered. 

‘Last place? Please, who actually believes that?‘ Karlie thought, rolling her eyes. ‘Talk about wishful thinking,‘ 

Tessa didn’t offer any opinion, just casually remarked, “Aurelia handed in her paper forty minutes early.” 

Her tone was flat, yet a hint of contempt was visible. Karlie teased, “If the rule didn’t say you could only leave forty minutes early, she probably would’ve gone even earlier. After all, just sitting there doing nothing isn’t much of a thing.” 

Tessa just gave a faint, almost imperceptible smirk. The afternoon general exam was way easier than the specialized subjects, so both Aurelia and Tessa could breeze through it without breaking a sweat. But this time, Aurelia didn’t risk turning in her paper early, worried that Stephen would bust her for it again. 

When it came to the interview afterward, Aurelia handled it like a pro. She was cool as a cucumber, not a trace of nerves. 

When Aurelia walked out after the interview, she saw Kyler hanging around by the door. He was clearly waiting for someone. ‘Bet he’s here for Tessa, Aurelia thought to herself. 

Not interested in whatever drama was brewing, she ignored him and dialed Gideon’s number. 

As Aurelia walked past Kyler, his fingers clenched a little tighter. He wanted to say something. But he just felt choked up, like something was stuck in his throat. No matter what, he couldn’t say a word. Even as Aurelia walked away, he never managed to call out to her. 

‘Forget it,‘ Kyler thought to himself. ‘Worst case, I’ll just get an earful from dad when I get home! 

That was what Kyler told himself. He didn’t want anything to do with Aurelia, but his dad kept calling, constantly pushing him to spend time with her and pick up her business sense. He couldn’t wrap his head around it. 

‘Seriously? I’m an international student at a top business school, and I’m supposed to learn from Aurelia? A local college grad who didn’t even bother with a master’s degree?‘ Kyler grumbled to himself. 

While there was a lull, Tessa stepped out. Karlie was waiting nearby, and as she walked over, she noticed Kyler standing not far away. 

Seeing Kyler staring out toward someone, Karlie followed his gaze. When she realized he was looking at Aurelia, her brows knit automatically. ‘What’s Kyler looking at Aurelia for?‘ Karlie thought, puzzled, 

Just as Karlie started to wonder, Kyler pulled his gaze back. The moment he spotted Tessa, he walked straight over to her. 

Karlic let out a quiet sigh of relief. I’m totally overthinking this, Karlie told herself. ‘No way Kyler was checking out Aurelia. He probably just happened to look that way! 

After all, Karlic knew better than anyone just how much Kyler was head over heels for Tessa. Back when he had no clue Tessa was already taken, Kyler made a big show of confessing his feelings. There were candles, flowers, and he even serenaded her with a guitar. 

It was straight out of a college rom–com. Too bad, Tessa shot him down.

Karlie had once asked Tessa why she shot him down. Tessa just shrugged and said, “It was way too immature.”

Nobody would’ve guessed that this low–key, supposedly broke exchange student was actually the heir of Evergreen Group. If he’d let everyone know who he really was from the start, things would’ve played out differently. But the guy was pretty devoted. 

Tessa was a bit surprised to see Kyler. “When did you get here?” 

“This morning,” Kyler replied, then quickly asked, “How did the exam go?” 

“Not too bad,” Tessa said. Kyler knew how capable she was, so he wasn’t worried at all. 

Tessa asked Kyler if he wanted to join her for a meal. He hesitated for a moment, then politely declined. He figured Tessa would probably be celebrating with Cassian anyway. 

“I’ve got something going on tonight, so I can’t make it,” Kyler declined. 

Tessa didn’t push it. “Alright, let’s get together when you’re free.” 

Right as she finished talking, Cassian called. Tessa answered, her voice warm and happy. “Hey Cassian, I’m done with the 

exam.” 

“Yeah, I’m doing pretty well.” 

“Alright, I’ll be out in a sec.” 

Then, she gave Kyler a quick wave and then headed off. Meanwhile, Kyler didn’t waste any time and went straight to look for Stephen. 

After Tessa hung up, Karlie leaned in and said, “Tessa, Kyler’s still got it bad for you. He is always keeping an eye on you!” 

Hearing that, Tessa just smiled, clearly unfazed. 

When Kyler arrived outside Stephen’s office, he caught snippets of a conversation about students‘ chosen research topics. “This paper is outstanding! The black–box investment method really caught my attention. It’s got real research potential!” someone exclaimed. 

“Absolutely, Professor Horton. I’m rooting for this student, too!” another chimed in. 

Stephen asked casually, “What’s the student’s name?” 

“Tessa Rowe,” one of the professors replied. 

Kyler stopped dead in his tracks outside the door. ‘Tessa?‘ The name echoed in Kyler’s mind. ‘Black–box? What about that painting? The girl who walked away from a promising math career for love… 

All at once, everything clicked into place. Every clue, every detail, suddenly made perfect sense. At that moment, Kyler was certain. Tessa was the one who had saved the Evergreen Group. She was the very person the Evergreen Group’s CEO had been searching for all this time. It was the black–box investment method that had pulled the Evergreen Group back from the brink of destruction. 

Kyler spun around and rushed downstairs, practically sprinting to catch up with Tessa. But by the time he got there, Tessa was already gone. And because of that, he missed out on whatever Stephen said after that. 

“Black–box investment method, huh? Let me see,” Stephen said, reaching for Tessa’s paper. The more he read, the tighter his brows knitted, and his face turned increasingly cold. The other two professors instantly clammed up. 

“I’ll take this home and will dig into it,” Stephen said as he tucked the paper away.

The two professors exchanged a glance, concluding that Stephen was definitely sold on how impressive the paper was. Perhaps Tessa was pretty much a shoo–in for the spot. 

Gideon thought Aurelia was inviting him out for dinner, just the two of them, and he was looking forward to it. But when he showed up, he realized she’d invited a bunch of people, and he couldn’t help feeling a little blindsided. 

Tyson and his gang had just gotten back from their vacation and brought Aurelia a bunch of gifts. But Mila was the one who picked out most of them. Tyson was hopeless when it came to stuff like that, so his little sister had to take the reins. 

“Aurelia, you really missed out. That island was gorgeous. The water was so clear, it looked like sapphire, and tons of people were getting married there!” Mila gushed. 

“As long as you guys had fun, that’s all that matters,” Aurelia said. After all, her whole goal was for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. 

“One of the locals told me that earlier this year, some big–shot CEO threw an engagement party on the island. The whole place was covered in flowers. They even had a helicopter circling the island, dropping flower petals everywhere. Seriously, it was a total spectacle!” Mila gushed. 

Mila was at that age where she was obsessed with this kind of thing. She couldn’t get enough. 

Miranda couldn’t help but rain on her parade. “You’re not even mentioning how the CEO’s fiancée got kidnapped. All you care about is the fairy–tale stuff.” 

“Well, he was so high–profile, he basically put a target on his back for the local pirates. They ended up kidnapping his fiancée and demanding a ransom. Rumor has it, they paid out a whopping 250 million dollars!” Miranda added. 

Aurelia hadn’t really paid much attention to the story before, but when the kidnapping came up, she quietly took note. “Was that in May?” Aurelia asked. 

Mila nodded. “That’s right!” 

Aurelia looked at Miranda, and Miranda nodded. 

‘So the place they picked for their group trip was actually the very island where Cassian and Tessa got engaged?‘ Aurelia thought, unable to hide her surprise. ‘Talk about a crazy coincidence! 

Mila was practically buzzing with gossip. She leaned in, hand over her mouth, voice dropping to a whisper. “The local said the CEO’s fiancée might’ve been, you know, the kidnappers did something to her.”
