“Dad, can’t you just trust me, just this once?” Jasper begged Steven.

“No. I want you out!” Steven snapped. Steven got so angry that he started coughing again, struggling to catch his breath. 

Jasper tried to give him some water, but Steven knocked it away. Even when Jasper tried to help by patting his back, Steven instead yelled, “Get out!” 

His vision went dark, and he slumped onto the bed. The caregiver immediately called for a doctor when she realized something was wrong. 

After a whirlwind of emergency care, Steven slowly regained consciousness. “Dad, are you feeling any better?” Jasper asked, his eyes brimming with tears. 

Steven didn’t have the strength to scold or argue anymore. He just turned away in exhaustion, making it clear he didn’t want to see Jasper. 

The doctor advised Jasper, “Your father can’t handle any stress right now. It’s best if you step out and let him rest.” 

Jasper choked out, “Okay.” 

He waited outside the room all night. After the doctor checked on Steven in the morning, Jasper tried to see him. But the caregiver told him Steven still didn’t want to see him. 

Jasper stood at the door, fists clenched, his voice low and strained as he called out to his dad inside, “Dad, will you trust me, just this once? I promise I’ll prove myself this time!” 

At almost the same time, over in Northvale, another father and son were locked in a standoff.

Kyler was doing everything he could to convince his dad, Elias, to invest in HelixTech. 

Elias had gone through the due diligence on HelixTech and felt the risks were a bit too much for his taste. “The project itself looks promising, but honestly, from what they’ve shared so far, the tech side is still kind of vague,” Elias said, voicing his 

concerns. 

Kyler argued, “Dad, it’s a cutting–edge project. They have to keep some things under wraps.” 

“I still have my doubts.” Elias shook his head. 

But Kyler couldn’t wait to jump in. “What if I told you one of the people/running HelixTech is someone who did our family a huge favor back then? Would you invest then?” 

“Oh?” Elias was intrigued. He was caught between feeling grateful and being careful. Being thankful was one thing, but putting money in the line was something else. 

‘Gratitude is one thing, business is another, Elias thought to himself. 

“Dad, can’t you just trust me, just once?” Kyler pleaded. 

Elias paused for a moment. “Alright, but I’ll cut the amount you wanted in half.” 

“Dad!” Kyler exclaimed. 

Elias raised his hand, shutting him down. “That’s as far as I’ll go.”

Kyler was frustrated, but he knew his dad was the type who never changed his mind once he made a decision. In the end, he had no choice but to accept it. 

As soon as he got the green light, Kyler called Tessa right away, letting her know he was ready to invest in Helix Tech. Hearing him, Tessa was thrilled. “Kyler, welcome aboard! We’re finally going to fight side by side.” 

When she said “fight side by side,” Kyler’s heart skipped a beat. 

The news that HelixTech had secured fresh investment spread like wildfire through the circles. When Aurelia saw Evergreen Group jumping in, she was honestly pretty shocked. She went back to dig into HelixTech again, but still felt the odds of it actually taking off were pretty low. 

The science behind it was unclear, the tech was tough to crack, production costs were high, commercialization was moving at a sluggish pace, and the whole infrastructure was still a mess. 

Those problems might not stand out at first, but with Cassian’s judgment, there was no way Aurelia believed he’d miss them. Perhaps he was just in such a hurry to marry the woman he loved that he was willing to cut corners, rushing things to get what he wanted sooner. 

That was the only reason Aurelia could think of. Still, she couldn’t wrap her head around it. 

When Steven called, he sounded as if he’d gotten a decade older overnight. He asked about Jasper, and Aurelia gave him the honest rundown. The moment Steven heard Jasper had cashed out all his shares, he went quiet for a long time. 

Finally, he let out a long sigh. “Let it be. Guess we’ll leave it up to fate.” 

Aurelia tried to reassure him. “What if this project actually works out? Don’t lose hope just yet.” 

She figured, even if the project ran into some snags, with Cassian involved, perhaps everything could still work out. 

“Let’s hope so,” Steven replied, not sounding too convinced. 

No sooner had Aurelia finished her call with Steven than her phone rang again. It was Elias. They’d exchanged contact info when they met at Stephen’s place last time. 

Elias was calling to ask Aurelia about the high–temperature superconductors project, and Aurelia kept it clear. “I’ve looked into it. There’s some potential.” 

Elias wasn’t like Kyler. He’d been around the block in the business world and was a lot more perceptive. But hearing Aurelia’s response, Elias felt a pang of worry. 

“Well, guess I’ll just let him try his hand at it,” Elias said, sounding a bit resigned. Only someone with that kind of wealth could afford to let their kid use billions as a learning experience. 

Meanwhile, Aurelia wasn’t really family, so she kept her opinions to herself. 

Elias asked Aurelia if she could keep an eye on Kyler. However, Aurelia just stayed quiet. She knew Kyler wouldn’t go for it anyway. Realizing this, Elias sounded even more resigned. 

Miranda came in with some food for Aurelia. Noticing the wistful look on her face, she asked, “What’s going on?” 

“Nothing much. Just reflecting on how hard it is to be a parent,” Aurelia replied with a sigh. 

Both dads were stressing out about their kids‘ futures. It was like they were part of some secret club for anxious fathers. But it was their business, not hers, so Aurelia just let out a little sigh and didn’t dwell on it. Her focus shifted to the soup Miranda cooked up.

“This soup tastes great!” Aurelia commented. 

Miranda’s face lit up. “Guess I’m improving in the kitchen!” 

“Or maybe you just got back to your old level,” Aurelia teased. 

Miranda protested, “Oh, shush. I’m leveling up!”

Kyler showed up in Ashmont a week later. He went to Stephen’s place first, but was told Stephen had gone out of town for an academic conference. So, Kyler headed over to Ashmont University instead. 

He figured the results should be out shortly. It was still a while before the official results would be posted online, but he could already get the inside scoop from the department professors. 

He’d visited Ashmont University with Stephen a few times before, so he was familiar with some of the professors in the field. They all knew he was Stephen’s protégé, so they didn’t hold anything back with him. 

“Didn’t Stephen tell you? The decision’s already been made! It’s going to be Tessa,” one of the professors said. 

Her project really stood out and was exactly what Stephen was looking for. That was why Stephen went ahead and picked Tessa’s project himself. 

When Kyler learned about this, he was genuinely thrilled for Tessa, straight from the heart. He’d always known she’d get the spot. After all, she’s always been a standout. 

After saying goodbye to the professor, Kyler rushed over to tell Tessa the news himself. He couldn’t wait. 

Tessa had invited him to a Western restaurant for the occasion. She’d even placed some lilies of the valley on the table and had the waiter light candles. 

When Kyler walked in and saw it all, his heart skipped a beat. He thought she’d forgotten all about it, but she remembered every single detail. 

Back in business school, he’d finally worked up the nerve to tell Tessa how he felt. He brought her favorite flowers: lilies of the valley. 

“So you remembered,” Kyler murmured. 

“Of course I did. You put your heart into it, and every bit of sincerity deserves to be cherished,” Tessa replied softly. 

At that moment, Kyler knew he’d fallen for the right person.
