Tessa barely touched her ice cream. She kept sneaking glances at Cassian. 

But his expression stayed perfectly calm, like he hadn’t noticed any of her signals. 

She leaned in a little closer, the air around her thick with pheromone–laced perfume.

She’d deliberately worn a low–cut, short dress and had taken off her jacket as soon as she got in the car, claiming it was too hot. 

She wasn’t even trying to hide her intentions. 

Suddenly, Cassian covered his mouth with his hand and coughed a few times, not too loud, not too soft. 

Then he nudged Tessa away. “I’ve got the flu. Don’t get too close. I wouldn’t want you to catch it.” 

Tessa instantly deflated. 

Thankfully, Cassian was considerate. Before dropping her off at home, he handed her a gift box. 

It looked exquisite. 

Tessa could tell right away it was jewelry inside. 

Tessa’s eyes sparkled as she said goodbye to Cassian, practically floating with happiness. 

As soon as his car pulled away, she opened the gift box eagerly. 

Inside was a diamond necklace from a luxury brand. 

She quickly looked up the price online. It was around three hundred thousand dollars. 

Even though it cost a fortune, Tessa was honestly pretty disappointed. 

She could’ve bought a necklace like this with his secondary card whenever she wanted. There was no need for him to make a big deal out of it as a gift. 

Compared to all those extravagant presents he’d given her before, this necklace felt like an afterthought. 

She was still feeling down when she got home. 

Alina looked genuinely surprised to see her walk in. “Why are you back so soon? Cassian didn’t spend the night?” 

“He’s got the flu, so that was a no–go,” Tessa said, tossing the necklace onto the table. 

Alina picked it up and inspected it. “Cassian gave you this?” 

“Yeah,” Tessa said. 

“Hey, it’s actually pretty nice. Seriously, don’t be so impatient. You know how it is. You can’t rush things,” Alina said, trying to cheer Tessa up as she helped Tessa put on the necklace, 

“As long as the feelings are real, everything else will work itself out. If it’s meant to be yours, it’ll be yours sooner or later. No one can take that away,” Alina added.

Alina tucked a strand of hair behind Tessa’s car and said approvingly. “It looks great on you.” 

Tessa looked at the necklace in the mirror, and her mood finally calmed down. 

‘Yeah, I was way too impatient, Tessa thought. 

After all, Cassian was already getting ready to pop the question.

When Aurelia went to EverMass Group for a meeting on Friday, she ran into Jasper. 

He seemed to be there to pack up his things. 

Once he’d dumped all his shares, Jasper made his exit from EverMass Group. 

His office was closed down on the spot.

With a cold expression, Jasper swept past Aurelia, walking out of EverMass Group with his head held high.

Aurelia wanted to be a good host, so she asked Miranda to book a restaurant for them. 

But Jessica said she’d already taken care of it and told Aurelia to just come over. 

Just as Aurelia stepped out of her car, she spotted Kyler climbing out of another one nearby. 

He was carrying a massive bouquet of lilies of the valley. It was impossible not to notice. 

Henry Dempsey had ridden over with him, and the two got out one after the other. 

They must’ve been talking nonstop the whole way, because even after getting out, Henry was still animatedly chatting with Kyler. 

“Everyone at our school’s been talking about Tessa’s black–box investment/strategy from her thesis. It’s seriously impressive. Just wait till it goes public, you’ll see how amazing it is,” Henry said, practically buzzing with excitement. 

Aurelia was heading inside when she heard that familiar name, and she paused in her tracks. 

As she turned to look at Henry, she caught Kyler’s eye first. 

Kyler shot her a frosty look. 

Aurelia shot Kyler a cold look, ignored him completely, and turned her attention to Henry, 

Henry said, “When I see Tessa later, I really want to have a good chat with her about that black–box investment strategy.” 

Aurelia mulled it over for a long moment. 

It had been a while since Aurelia last saw Jessica, and when they finally met up, Jessica had swapped out her boyfriend again. 

By now, Aurelia barely batted an eye.

Since they needed to talk business, Jessica sent her new boy toy away. 

Once they were alone in the private room, Jessica asked Aurelia, “So, what do you think of this guy?” 

“Honestly, they’re all pretty much the same to me,” Aurelia replied. 

Jessica’s taste never really changed. 

She always went for guys who were built but still had a soft, pretty face. 

The kind who could be a total bad boy one second and a puppy the next. 

“What about you? Still flying solo?” Jessica asked. 

“Yeah,” Aurelia replied.

“Don’t tell me you haven’t hooked up with a guy at all lately,” Jessica said bluntly. 

“Can we not talk about this?” Aurelia replied, trying to steer the conversation away. 

Jessica smirked. “Look at you, so hopeless. How many times do I have to tell you? Men aren’t meant to be owned; they’re meant to be used. 

“Stop being so uptight. Every guy has his purpose. Drop the possessiveness, enjoy the perks, and open your mind, okay?” 

Just to appease her, Aurelia nodded. “Okay, lesson learned.” 

The next second, the door popped open, and Cassian strolled in, asking, “What did you just learn?” 

Aurelia was totally caught off guard. 

‘Hold up, why am I even feeling guilty right now?‘ Aurelia thought. 

Jessica just grinned at Cassian. “Talk about bad timing, Mr. Locke.” 

“How so?” Cassian asked. 

He unbuttoned the bottom of his suit jacket with one hand and took a seat across from Aurelia. 

Jessica didn’t even try to hide it. “We were talking about men. I told Ms. Corin that men are like a health boost. She should really give a few more a shot.” 

“Oh?” Cassian lifted his eyelids, his intense eyes glinting with something one couldn’t quite read, but his tone was chilly. “So, Ms. Corin, did you get the gist?” 

Aurelia met Cassian’s eyes without flinching. “Of course.” 

Her expression was cold, and Cassian could practically feel the distance she was putting up. 

This time, Cassian was the one to look away first, his tone even colder than before. “Ms. Lane, have you given any thought to

Jessica leaned back in her chair, taking her time. “I’ve got my fingers in too many pies this year. I’m a bit overextended, and cash is tight. I can’t co–invest this round.” 

“No worries. Even if the deal doesn’t happen, we’re still cool. Let’s keep in touch and see if we can work together next time,” Cassian replied. 

Just as Cassian finished speaking, his phone rang. 

When he answered, his tone turned gentle. “I’m almost done here. You guys go ahead and have a drink. No need to wait for me. I’ll be there soon.” 

After a quick reassurance, Cassian hung up and turned to Jessica. “Ms. Rowe’s hosting some friends and business partners upstairs. Feel free to join us if you’d like.” 

“I’ve got plans with Ms. Corin, so I’ll pass. You guys have fun,” Jessica replied. 

Cassian didn’t push it. He stood up and said his goodbyes to Jessica. 

On his way out, Cassian paused in front of Aurelia. 

Cassian lowered his eyes, his voice low and a little husky. “Ms. Corin, stay safe.”
