Chapter 283 I Don’t MindÂ
Tessa looked at Liam again, her gaze lingering for a moment.Â
Liam appeared gentle, his eyes lowered just enough to keep his thoughts hidden.Â
Cassian returned from settling the bill and said the car was out front, waiting for them.Â
Tessa paused and almost spoke up a few times.Â
But in the end, she held back.Â
‘Maybe he’s saving the proposal for somewhere special, she mused.Â
After all, a restaurant wasn’t exactly the most romantic spot for a proposal.Â
As they walked out together, they spotted Gideon, who should’ve left ages ago.Â
“Hey, isn’t that Gideon? I thought he left already,” Jasper said.Â
Jasper was just about to call out to Gideon when he saw Aurelia step out of the private room.Â
His voice caught in his throat.Â
Tessa’s face hardened the moment she saw what was going on.Â
Karlie was even more furious. “That bitch! She’s always throwing herself at men.”Â
As soon as she said it, a chill ran down her spine.Â
She looked up and saw Liam, who’d ignored her all evening, now staring at her with a frosty glare.Â
It was obvious he didn’t like her badmouthing Aurelia.Â
Karlie felt really stifled inside.Â
Getting ignored by the guy she liked all evening was bad enough, and now, because of Aurelia, she was getting hated on, too.Â
She just couldn’t take it lying down.Â
So she snapped, “I’m not wrong! She’s always got a bunch of guys hanging around her.”Â
Liam raised an eyebrow, still looking calm and gentle, but there was a chill in his eyes. “So what? A single woman can have any guy chasing after her if she wants. I don’t mind, so why should you?”Â
Karlie was left speechless by that.Â
Nearby, Cassian gave Liam a slow, casual look, not showing any emotion.Â
“The car’s here,” Tessa said, cutting in before things got any tenser. It was her way of telling Karlie to let it go and move on.Â
Karlie climbed into the car, dragging her feet, clearly annoyed.Â
After shutting Karlie down, Liam headed straight for Aurelia.Â
Jasper was left gaping, completely thrown off.Â
Hold up, what?‘ he thought. ‘Did I just miss a whole chapter here?‘Â
Karlie lived out west, so she wasn’t headed the same way as Tessa. That was why Cassian set up two separate rides.Â
Seeing that, Tessa couldn’t help but let her mind wander.Â
‘Is he planning to pop the question when it’s just the two of us?‘ she wondered. ‘Yeah, that’s just between the two of us. It’d mean he’s taking it seriously!’Â
She’d been sulking, thinking Gideon and Liam had totally switched sides on her.Â
But when she saw how Cassian had arranged things, her spirits soared, and she hopped into the car, all smiles. Right before the door shut, she threw Aurelia a look of disdain.Â

Aurelia was oblivious to all the drama. She was just talking with Liam, who’d come over to greet her.Â
Liam asked if her master program application results would be coming out on Monday.Â
“Yeah, they are,” Aurelia replied.Â
“Are you going to Ashmont University then?” Liam continued.Â
Aurelia felt that Liam was inquisitive, but she still answered him, “Yeah, I am.”Â
Stephen had just called her, asking her to come to the university on Monday.Â
Once he got his answer, Liam didn’t press any further.Â
When they got to the entrance, Gideon and Liam spoke up in unison. “Let me drive you home.”Â
Right then, a car rolled up and stopped right in front of Aurelia.Â
She glanced back at the two of them and said, “No worries, I’ve got my own ride.”Â
So Gideon switched gears. “Alright, just be careful, and text me when you get home, okay?”Â
“Okay,” Aurelia replied.Â
Liam actually wanted to say the same thing.Â
But then he remembered that all his WhatsApp chats with Aurelia were strictly about work, so he just kept his mouth shut.Â
He pressed his lips together, realizing Gideon was one step ahead of him now.Â
Liam thought, ‘I need to step up my game and close the gap.’Â
In fact, Aurelia didn’t text Gideon after she got home.Â
She got busy, and it just slipped her mind.Â
Stephen called and asked her to find that paper she’d written eight years back.Â
Tracking it down was a hassle since it’d been so long.Â
Luckily, back when she was Cassian’s secretary at Honoria Capital, she’d been trained to always leave a paper trail for everything at work.Â
After some serious searching, she actually managed to dig up that old paper.Â
She could pretty much guess why Stephen was asking for it.Â
So she went ahead and organized all the timelines and evidence, just in case.Â
By the time she finished, she realized it was already past eleven.Â
Before heading to bed, she went to close the window and saw a black sedan parked under the tree outside her building.Â
That spot wasn’t even a parking space, and in a fancy neighborhood like this, everyone had their own assigned parking. People didn’t just leave their cars wherever they wanted.Â
After a brief hesitation, Aurelia dialed a number.Â
Ten minutes later, the flashing lights of a police car lit up the street below.Â
Aurelia rolled over and fell asleep peacefully.Â
Meanwhile, when Tessa got home, she looked totally bummed out.Â
It was already late, but Alina was still up, clearly waiting for her.Â
As soon as Tessa walked in, Alina couldn’t wait to ask, “So? Did Cassian propose?”Â
Tessa looked totally deflated. “Nope.”Â
“What happened?” Alina frowned.Â
“I don’t know. He didn’t say or do anything at all,” Tessa muttered, sounding super bummed.Â
Tessa thought for sure Cassian would propose when it was just the two of them.Â

But he just gave her a ride home like always, said goodbye, and left.Â
Ever since she found out he’d bought that ruby, she couldn’t help but start hoping for a proposal.Â
But she waited and waited, and there was still no mention of the ruby or a proposal.Â
As for those expensive auction items Mrs. Gold talked about, Tessa honestly had no idea if any of them were real or just made up.Â
Right at that moment, Karlie called.Â
Tessa could already guess exactly what Karlie wanted.Â
She was so fed up that she rejected Karlie’s call without a second thought.Â
Less than a minute later, Karlie sent a message to Tessa. [Am I interrupting something? Is Cassian proposing to you right now?]Â
Those questions were the last straw. Tessa’s mood hit rock bottom, and she just shut her phone off.Â
“Maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves,” Alina said, after thinking it over for a moment.Â
“Those pricey auction pieces have to go through a mountain of paperwork before they can even be shipped back here. It’s not something that happens overnight, and honestly, it’s just not the right time yet,” she added.Â
Tessa blinked, realizing that hadn’t even crossed her mind.Â
So Alina tried to comfort her, “We just need to be patient and wait a little longer. Cassian only has eyes for you. No one could ever replace you in his heart, so just relax.”Â
‘Yeah, I’m Cassian’s first love, Tessa reminded herself. ‘I’m the girl he’s been longing for these past seven years. So really, what’s the rush? Since Cassian could wait seven years for me, I can wait a little longer for him.‘Â
Aurelia showed up on Monday at Ashmont University, right on time.Â
She was in a pretty good mood, but the moment she spotted Tessa and her group, her mood instantly soured.Â
Aurelia didn’t even spare them a glance and headed straight inside.Â
Tessa just looked right past Aurelia, treating her like she was invisible.Â
Jasper shot Aurelia a look, then deliberately asked Tessa, “Tessa, where are we celebrating later? I already booked the champagne.”Â
He raised his voice a notch, obviously trying to make sure Aurelia heard him.Â
Aurelia gave them a glance, but just as fast, she looked away and walked off.Â
Still, Kyler noticed how Aurelia reacted.Â
‘Wait, was that… her being all dismissive?‘ he thought. ‘Seriously, who does she think she is, acting all high and mighty?‘Â
