Seeing that it was about time, Cassian reminded everyone that they should head inside. 

Karlie kept glancing outside. “Didn’t Liam say he’d be here? Why isn’t he here yet?” 

“I’ll call and check,” Jasper said. 

However, before he could even dial, Liam showed up. 

Karlie’s face lit up as she rushed over to greet him. “Liam, what took you so long? We’ve been waiting for ages.” 

Liam didn’t spare Karlie a glance. He just looked right past her, eyes fixed on the school gate. 

She assumed he was searching for Tessa. But to her surprise, he asked, “Where’s Aurelia? Isn’t she here yet?” He’d checked with her yesterday, and she’d promised she’d come today. 

That was a total buzzkill for Karlie. Liam’s words hit her like a bucket of ice water. 

Meanwhile, Tessa’s expression briefly darkened when she heard Liam ask about Aurelia. 

She turned to Karlie and said, “Let’s head inside.” 

But right then, Kyler spoke up to Tessa. “You two go ahead. I’m waiting for someone.” 

Tessa was curious who he was waiting for, but kept it polite and didn’t press. She just said they’d touch base once they were inside. 

Kyler nodded in agreement. 

Once the others had gone inside, Kyler finally called Elias. “Dad, where are you?” 

“Traffic’s a nightmare. I’ll be a bit late,” Elias replied. 

“How late?” Kyler pressed. 

“About forty minutes,” Elias said. Noticing Kyler sounded anxious, he asked, “What’s up? Is this going to mess up something important?” 

Kyler didn’t elaborate. “Nah, the timing should be just right.” 

“Just right for what, Kyler?” Elias asked. 

“A surprise,” Kyler shot back. 

Kyler didn’t give Elias a chance to ask more, he just hung up. 

He didn’t trust himself not to spill the beans if he kept talking. It wouldn’t be much of a surprise. 

Meanwhile, as Tessa and the group walked in, they spotted Aurelia standing all alone in front of the admin building. 

Tessa gave a sly smile, arching her brow as she shot Aurelia a cool, appraising look. 

“Seriously? She’s here by herself? Does she not have any friends?” Karlie scoffed. 

Even Jasper said, “I thought Gideon might show up. Guess I was wrong. 

“Well, makes sense though. With things like this going on, Gideon’s better off not showing up.” 

He didn’t spell it out, but everyone knew exactly what he was getting at. 

After all, Aurelia was always dead last in class back in the day, so everyone already knew what to expect. 

They probably wondered what she was trying to prove. If she crashed and burned, it would be seriously embarrassing. 

Karlie smirked. “If I were her, I’d just lay low and keep a low profile for a while. No way I’d show up and embarrass myself.” 

“Cassian, what do you think about all this?” Karlie asked. 

Jasper was basically thinking, ‘Aurelia is not exactly gilmennyeshow–off material.

‘She’s got no real talent, but she sure likes to act all ambitious. 

‘Does she seriously believe getting into Professor Horton’s grad program is just like making a business deal; networking and pulling strings to get in?‘ 

Meanwhile, Cassian’s face stayed cool and distant, his eyes cold and detached as he said, “Why bother talking about her?” 

Jasper caught the cold look Cassian shot him and quickly said, “My bad, didn’t mean to kill the vibe.” Cassian’s no–nonsense attitude made Tessa smirk. 

Karlie nudged her, a knowing wink following right after, as if to say, ‘See? Cassian knows how to set boundaries. He won’t even mention Aurelia. 

They were only a few feet away, discussing Aurelia, yet the girl herself couldn’t catch a single word. 

She didn’t pay them any attention, her face completely unchanged as she slowly scrolled through her phone. “She’s really putting on a calm front, huh?” Karlie whispered to Tessa as she leaned in. 

‘Too bad Liam just headed to another building and didn’t come over; he really should’ve seen Aurelia embarrassing herself like this,‘ she thought. 

Karlie honestly didn’t get what Liam saw in Aurelia, wondering if he was into girls who were always reaching way above their pay grade. 

“Ms. Rowe.” At that moment, Henry stepped out of the admin building. When he saw Tessa, he walked over to say hello. 

“Professor Dempsey,” Tessa greeted him with a bright smile. 

Then, Henry asked, “Have you checked your scores yet?” 

“Not yet,” Tessa replied, still looking totally chill. 

She’d already figured her core exam results would be solid, no worries there. 

And when it came to her major coursework, Henry had assured her everything was fine. So, she felt confident and wasn’t in any rush. 

Jasper glanced at the clock, it was past nine, and immediately urged, “Tessa, hurry up and check your scores. Show us what you’ve got!” 

“Go on, let’s take a look,” Henry encouraged her. 

Tessa finally pulled out her phone to check her scores. 

After a quick look, she said, “255.” 

Henry’s eyes widened. “255? That’s even higher than I thought! That’s the top score in the last five years.” 

Stephen was taking in grad students for the MBA program at the International Finance Institute. 

Add in the major subjects, and the max score was 300. 

Thus, 255 was seriously impressive. 

Jasper, the resident slacker, stared at her in awe. “Tessa, you’re a total genius! My idol! How long did you even study? If I had a tenth of your talent, my dad would throw a huge party, and my ancestors would be smiling down on me.” 

Tessa just laughed, saying he was exaggerating. 

Henry waved his hand. “Not at all. Professor Horton’s program is notoriously tough, and you were juggling your career while studying. With so little time, scoring this high is practically genius–level!” 

“So, does that mean Tessa got in?” Karlie asked eagerly. 

“Ninety–nine point nine percent odds,” Henry announced. 

Karlie piped up, genuinely curious, “How come it’s not a full hundred?”

“Because there’s always that tiny bit of uncertainty, stuff you just can’t control,” Henry explained. 

Karlie was about to press for more, but Tessa quickly stopped her. “He’s just being precise. What’s with all the questions?” 

So, Karlie finally let it go. 

“So, can we start celebrating now?” Jasper was even more hyped than Tessa herself. 

Just then, Kyler walked over and caught Jasper’s words. His heart skipped a beat with excitement. 

‘Looks like the results are out,‘ he thought. ‘And judging by the vibe, Tessa must’ve nailed it, she probably met Professor Horton’s standards. 

‘Tessa’s always been a cut above the rest, just like she’s always been.’ 

Right on cue, Alina called Tessa to ask about her scores. 

“The results are out. I got 255. Professor Dempsey said it’s the highest score in the past five years,” Tessa answered with confidence. 

“That’s excellent,” Alina praised her, then immediately shared the news with her circle of socialites. “Tessa’s scores are out, and she did great. She’s basically guaranteed a spot in Professor Horton’s program.” 

On the other end, the ladies all chimed in with their congratulations. 

Alina jumped at the chance to invite them all to Tessa’s admission party, and they all agreed without hesitation. 

Being Stephen’s student was actually a big deal. 

It meant Tessa would have all the connections and resources that come with being in his inner circle. 

Soon, it would be them trying to get on Tessa’s good side, not the other way around. And they would be trying to win over Alina. 

The tables had turned. 

“Alright, I’ll hang up,” Alina said, then finished the call to chat with the ladies. 

But right after, she sent Tessa a quick text: [I’ve arranged for a Finance Channel reporter to come to Ashmont University. Make sure you impress them.] 

Tessa immediately felt reassured. She knew exactly what she needed to do next. 

She was ready to use this momentum to hype up HelixTech and put the project in the spotlight. 

Tessa was already thinking about how she’d handle the interview when Jasper snickered. “I wonder what Aurelia scored. Probably dead last again, huh?”
