Walter asked Aurelia, “Should I turn around?” 

“Don’t bother,” Aurelia said, her brows knitting together and her eyes turning cold. 

She’d tried dodging Cassian before, but he always found a way to corner her.

Aurelia really didn’t need people speculating about her again. 

Walter pulled over and just waited in the car, not bothering to get out. 

As Aurelia stepped out of the car, Cassian’s eyes immediately found her. The hazy yellow streetlights bathed his figure, making him look almost unreal. 

Aurelia glanced at her watch. It was 9:30 PM. 

He shouldn’t be at the hospital with Tessa right now, yet he was showing up here. 

Aurelia wondered if he’d come to plead for Tessa. If so, he was seriously overestimating her kindness. 

Or maybe he was about to throw out some offer she couldn’t refuse, just so Tessa could sleep easy. 

If that was the case… then she wouldn’t say no. 

After all, she was just another profit–chasing businesswoman.

Cassian’s eyes settled on her, a subtle smile tugging at his lips. “Why would you think that?” 

Aurelia raised an eyebrow. ‘Wrong guess? No way! 

But she wasn’t about to play mind games with him. Her voice was cold. “So, what do you want with me?” 

She knew he wasn’t here just to catch up. 

Cassian met her cold gaze, his voice heavier than usual. “What illness did you have the day you missed the exam?”

Aurelia’s brows furrowed instantly, thinking this guy’s brain must be wired wrong or something. 

His fiancée was in major trouble, and instead of handling that, he was standing outside her building asking about something from six years ago. 

‘Seriously, what’s wrong with him? Is his brain fried or something?‘ Aurelia thought. 

“You really want to know?” she shot back in a mocking tone. 

Cassian replied, “Yeah.” 

“Because of you,” Aurelia said, her words sharp and unyielding. “That night, you were so reckless. I ended up in the hospital with a ruptured ovary, missed the exam, and landed dead last for the first and only time in m life.” 

Cassian’s expression stiffened, his eyes flickering, gaze unsteady. 

A mix of shock and complicated feelings lingered in his eyes, all buried in silence. 

“Feeling guilty now?” Aurelia asked, her voice icy. 

Cassian’s Adam’s apple bobbed, but he didn’t say a word. His silence said it all. 

“If you feel guilty, then don’t ever come here to plead for Tessa. Everything she stole from me, I’ll take back, one by one.” Aurelia was still ice–cold all over. “Except you.”

That same day, Jasper got a call from the doctor; Steven had been so shaken up, his condition had gotten

Jasper was growing more and more troubled. 

Even when his old crew tried to get him out partying, he wasn’t having any of it. 

After mulling it over for ages, he finally picked up some health products and headed to the hospital to visit 

Tessa. 

To dodge the reporters, Tessa had been transferred to a private clinic. 

When Jasper showed up, he ran into Daniel, who was just coming out of her room. 

“She’s been really down these past couple of days, barely says a word. She hardly ever gets visitors now, so if you can, stick around and keep her company,” Daniel said.

He sat there awkwardly for a while, but just couldn’t bring himself to bring up the topic of withdrawing his investment. 

“Is Cassian coming by today?” Jasper finally blurted out after an awkward silence. 

Since it was hard to reach Tessa, he figured Cassian was his next best bet. 

Alina said, “With Tessa sick, Cassian’s had to take on everything at HelixTech himself. He’s been swamped over there these past couple of days, so I told him not to keep running back and forth.” 

“Oh, I see,” Jasper replied. 

The silence hung in the air for a long moment before Jasper finally found an excuse to leave. 

As soon as he stepped out of the room, he called Cassian. 

When Cassian picked up, Jasper asked, “Cassian, are you over at HelixTech or Honoria? I’ll come meet you.” 

“I’m overseas,” Cassian replied. 

Jasper paused, caught off guard. ‘Wait, didn’t Alina say he was handling things at HelixTech? So how did he end up overseas?‘ 

Just as Jasper was about to press for more answers, he suddenly heard the sharp crack of a gavel in the background. 

The auctioneer’s voice rang out, “Sold! Congratulations to Mr. Cassian Locke for winning the lot at 80 million dollars!” 

The next moment, the call ended abruptly. Jasper just stared at his phone, completely stunned. 

‘Wait, Cassian’s at another auction?‘ Jasper thought, totally confused. ‘At a time like this, he’s really out there dropping millions at an auction?‘

Once Jasper was gone, Tessa finally pushed herself upright from the bed. 

Alina asked, “Has Cassian messaged you?” 

“No,” Tessa replied.

Tessa took a deep breath. “No.” 

“What could he be thinking?” Alina frowned. 

Tessa had no answer. She really didn’t know what was going on in Cassian’s mind either. 

Every day, she worried that he might break off the engagement, but Cassian never mentioned it. 

The longer Cassian kept silent, the more Tessa was tormented by anxiety. 

It felt like there was a sword dangling over her head, ready to fall at any moment. 

And right at this critical moment, yet another disaster struck. 

Vanessa rushed to the hospital, bawling to Alina that Preston was in trouble. 

Tessa had known all along about Preston pocketing kickbacks at Ascend Group.

Alina’s face went cold. “How much is the compensation?” 

“100 million dollars,” Vanessa choked out. 

“What?!” Tessa shot upright in bed, her eyes wide with shock. 

Vanessa broke down even harder. “That’s exactly why we came to you, we just can’t handle a number that big.” 

“Alina, you have to save Preston! He’s the only son in the Pelosi family!” she wailed, tears streaming down her face. 

Alina’s face turned ashen. “Where am I supposed to get 100 million dollars?” 

Tessa was so furious she could barely get the words out. “Exactly how much did he embezzle from Ascend Group?” 

Vanessa mumbled, “Honestly, it wasn’t that much… and most of it ended up with you, Alina.” 

Tessa looked at Alina, completely stunned.

“Why don’t you try asking Cassian for help? If you don’t, Preston’s really finished. If they go after him, he’ll be looking at ten years, minimum…” Vanessa said, her voice trembling. 

Before Vanessa could finish, two voices rang out in unison from the room.
