Chapter 300Â
Aurelia had probably read that cryptic email, but just like always, she barely reacted.Â
Gideon couldn’t understand her at all.Â
10 vouchers,Â
Maybe it was because the topic they were about to discuss was making him nervous. Gideon instinctively tugged at his tic, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed.Â
“Honestly, I always thought you just couldn’t move on, which was why it took you so long to start seeing someone new,” Gideon said.Â
Aurelia didn’t even bat an eye at that. She figured most people probably thought the same thing.Â
After all, everyone had seen just how serious she’d been about Cassian.Â
Seven years of pouring her heart into him, no one could just let go after all that.Â
If it were the old Aurelia, she’d have said no way.Â
She went through some brutal withdrawal right after the breakup.Â
After all, for seven years, he’d seeped into every nook and cranny of her world.Â
Her body and heart instinctively fought against the sudden loss. Torn apart, unable to let go, all twisted up inside.Â
Those feelings kept coming and going, like the tide, always rising and falling.Â
She used to beat herself up for not being stronger, but after sorting things out, she realized it wasn’t about weakness at all. Her mind just kept drifting back to him out of habit.Â
For seven years, Cassian Locke had been the center of her world.Â
After leaving him, she needed time to rebuild her life, this time with herself at the heart of it.Â
Some people try to move on by meeting someone new, hoping a fresh romance can fill the void and cover up the past.Â
Others dive headfirst into their work, searching for meaning and self–worth in what they do.Â
Aurelia was definitely the latter.Â
She’d already proved how deep her feelings could run in those seven years. Now, it was her turn to show just how strong she really was.Â
“Honestly, when you’ve given it your all, it’s easy to just cut things off,” Aurelia said after thinking it over.Â
Because she had nothing to feel guilty about, letting go was easy.Â

“That’s good,” Gideon nodded, clearly approving.Â
“Besides, it’s not like love is something you can’t live without,” Aurelia added, her tone firm,Â
Gideon didn’t know what to say back to her.Â
‘Should’ve kept my mouth shut, he thought.Â

“You don’t have to be so absolute about it. Maybe you should look around a little more. Who knows, maybe the right person is closer than you think,” Gideon said, finally mustering up the courage to hint at it.Â
Honestly, that was as close to spelling it out as he could get.Â
‘Well, here we go, Aurelia thought. Even before she saw that email, she had already figured out what Gideon was thinking.Â
After that email, she knew this day would come eventually.Â
“Is this about you, Gideon?” Aurelia went straight to the point.Â
Gideon cleared his throat. “Since you’ve already caught on, I’ll lay it all out. When I sent you that email eight years ago, I was hoping for your reply.Â
“It’s been eight years, but I don’t think it’s too late. So, can you tell me what your answer is?”Â
Time seemed to freeze, like every second was dragging out.Â
It was like a tide washing over his chest. Gideon was so nervous, his fingertips were tingling.Â
Aurelia seriously considered it.Â
Honestly, Gideon really was a good fit. Maybe… it was worth a shot.Â
She was just about to say something. But right as the words were about to leave her lips, Gideon’s phone rang, cutting through the tension.Â
He hesitated, not wanting to answer, but when he saw the caller ID, he gave her an apologetic look. “Sorry, I need to take this.”Â
Aurelia couldn’t help but feel relieved. “Sure.”Â
Gideon picked up the phone, and the caller said something that made his face change instantly.Â
His expression shifted in a flash.Â
*****Â
The topic was dropped, and Aurelia didn’t get to say what she wanted.Â
Meanwhile, Gideon had to rush to the airport. Apparently, there was a major crisis with his business overseas.Â

Aurelia, being thoughtful, insisted that Gideon just drop her off at the curb. She didn’t want him to lose time driving her home when he had urgent business to handle.Â
Business was always a race against the clock. She totally got it.Â
But this stretch of road was terrible for hailing a cab, so Aurelia ended up calling Walter to come get her.Â
Walter showed up in no time.Â
When he dropped Aurelia off outside her building, he noticed a familiar figure up ahead and said, “It’s Locke.”Â
Aurelia just stared in disbelief. ‘Maybe I should just move out already!Â
But with someone like Cassian, it didn’t matter where she moved, he’d always find her.Â
“I remember Miranda once mentioned you used to race cars,” Aurelia said, thinking back to Walter’s resume.Â
“Yes,” Walter replied simply.Â
“Can you give him a scare?” Aurelia asked.Â
Walter, the silent type with a ruthless streak, just started the engine and gunned the car straight at Cassian.Â
The engine roared, shattering the silence of the night.Â
Walter kept his foot slammed on the gas, pushing the car faster and faster down the road.Â
Aurelia narrowed her eyes, sizing up the man standing just ahead.Â
He just stood there, watching the car come at him, not moving an inch.Â
Even as the car raced straight for him, Cassian didn’t even blink.Â
Aurelia’s head was killing her. She couldn’t tell if it was the alcohol or just Cassian popping up to hassle her again.Â
She was ready to just let it go.Â
Then, Walter slammed on the brakes, stopping on a dime right in front of Cassian.Â
There was barely an inch between them.Â
Walter raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Locke’s got nerves of steel.”Â
“I know,” Aurelia said.Â
She’d seen it for herself. Luck had nothing to do with how far Cassian had come on his own.Â
He was ruthless in business, always burning his bridges, never giving himself a wayÂ
back.Â

Chapter 300Â
He wasn’t afraid of anything, and nothing ever fazed him.Â
Back when he was trying to break into the Vessara market, he placed his bet against the legendary casino king. Sean Kent, all on his own.Â
Sean was a notorious high–roller who built his empire on pure luck and reckless bets.Â
But Cassian didn’t flinch, not even when Sean’s goons had guns to his head. He didn’t even blink.Â
A guy like that was not someone people wanted as an enemy, not the one to mess with.Â
As Aurelia was lost in thought, Cassian strode up to her car door and rapped his knuckles twice against the glass.Â
She had no intention of getting out, so she just rolled down the window, her gaze frosty and aloof. “Mr. Locke, shouldn’t you be with your fiancée right now, playing the caring husband–to–be? So what brings you here?”Â
A gust of wind swept in, carrying the faint scent of alcohol.Â
Aurelia noticed that Cassian had been drinking. He was allergic to alcohol. Unless it was for work, he never touched a drop.Â
So he must’ve just come from some business function.Â
He probably found out Tessa had gone to see Aurelia, and bolted out of the event, rushing straight to the Golden Bay Hotel to play bodyguard for his darling Tessa.Â
Maybe he was scared Aurelia might actually rough up his beloved princess.Â
Cassian finally broke the silence, his voice low, icy, and more somber than ever. “Gideon isn’t the one for you.”Â
Aurelia snorted, her smile tinged with mockery. “Oh really? So who is? You?”Â
She was clearly being snarky, but Cassian replied, dead serious, “I’m not the one for you either.”Â
“And then what?” Aurelia looked at him, completely unfazed, her tone flat and indifferent.Â
Cassian’s eyes grew even darker, the night gathering in them like deep, inky shadows.Â
This time, he was silent for a long moment before finally speaking. “No one is right for you.”Â
Aurelia couldn’t help but laugh, a mix of disbelief and irritation bubbling up. ‘Seriously? Do this crazy couple really want to ruin my perfectly good day?‘Â
One said she couldn’t move on, the other said she was just meant to endÂ
upÂ
alone.Â
