Chapter 342

Aurelia didn’t go over to check things out. She just headed straight home.

Ten minutes after she got home, Ella came back too.

“Out so late?” Aurelia asked casually, as though she hadn’t noticed anything earlier.

Ella’s eyes flickered. “I ate too much for dinner, so I went downstairs for a walk.”

Aurelia gave her a couple more looks.

Ella didn’t meet Aurelia’s eyes and said, “It’s getting late. You should get some sleep.”

With that, she headed straight into her room.

On the day of the trial, Aurelia and Ella were both there.

When they got to the courthouse, they ran right into Daniel walking out.

Aurelia didn’t really notice, but Ella suddenly halted in her tracks.

“What’s wrong?” Aurelia turned to ask her.

Ella quickly dropped her gaze and shook her head. “Nothing.”

The two of them headed inside together, brushing right past Daniel.

Just as Aurelia had expected, the case held no suspense.

When Vanessa heard the verdict, she burst into tears, crying out that she was just an accomplice and the sentence was way too harsh.

The judge ordered her to calm down, stating that if she was dissatisfied with the ruling, she could file an appeal rather than disrupt the courtroom with tears and tantrums.

With nowhere left to vent her despair, Vanessa started cursing the main culprit, Alina, accusing her of dragging everyone down and ruining their lives.

Her words were vicious and harsh, every sentence meant to cut deep.

But Alina just sat there, completely still.

Her eyes were glued to Ella in the audience, never wavering for a second.

“Are you back for the work handover?” Aurelia asked.

‘Only… Aurelia won’t be there, Wade thought, a hint of regret flickering in his eyes.

Even when he was in Ashmont, they were both so busy they barely had time to see each other.

Once he moved to Northvale, even catching a glimpse of each other would be nothing but wishful thinking.

“Enough about me. What about you? How’s life treating you lately?” Wade shifted the topic, turning his attention to Aurelia.

Truth was, Wade knew a little about her situation. Her studies and career were both thriving. Only her love life remained

uncertain.

Wade was well aware that Aurelia had no shortage of outstanding admirers, He feared that once they were in different cities, he would lose whatever chance he had left.

After thinking it over, Wade asked, “Do you mind long–distance relationships?”

Aurelia knew Wade never beat around the bush. After all, he’d confessed his feelings the very first time they met.

So when he brought it up now, Aurelia wasn’t all that surprised.

She paused for a moment and said, “I’ve never tried long–distance before, so I can’t really say if I’d mind.”

“Would you be willing to give it a shot?” Wade pressed, seizing the moment.

Aurelia found it hard to answer.

Her full understanding of love was shaped by Cassian.

Back when she was at rock bottom, Cassian was the one who reached out and pulled her up.

At that moment, Cassian was the light that pierced through all the darkness in her life.

At first, she was just touched, but before she knew it, she started to fall for him.

“I just don’t want to get in your way,” Aurelia replied.

She remembered the things people said at their first dinner together.

Wade paused for a moment before asking, “Is it possible for me not to go to Northvale?”

There was a long silence on the other end.

Then his father exploded. “Are you out of your mind? Do you even know what you’re saying?”
