Chapter 353Â
Chapter 353Â
On the flight to Ashmont, Jasper and Cassian talked about how things had changed over the years. “Aurelia is seriously impressive now. Honestly, half of Ashmont businesses are basically hers, Jasper said.Â
Cassian just listened quietly, not asking any questions or saying a word.Â
He seemed completely detached, like he was somewhere else entirely.Â

The engagement party hosted by the Keith family in Grendel City was nothing short of spectacular.Â
Aurelia gently held onto Darren’s arm as they made their way through the crowd, mingling and socializing with everyone. “Mr. Keith,” Justin said, approaching with a glass in hand. He greeted Darren, but his eyes were locked on Aurelia standing beside him.Â
He never imagined that the woman he’d spent five years searching for would now be engaged to someone else.Â
Aurelia didn’t seem to recognize Justin at all. She simply clinked her glass with his out of courtesy.Â
She didn’t even spare him a second glance.Â
Even though Justin had climbed a few rungs on the social ladder, compared to a powerhouse like the Keith family, he was still a small fry.Â
So Darren didn’t bother with much small talk. He just exchanged a few polite words and whisked Aurelia away.Â
Justin stood there, his eyes glued to Aurelia, unable to look awayÂ
Moments later, his phone started ringing.Â
Justin snapped out of his daze and answered.Â
It was Brooke Carr, his sister, calling to complain that the crazy woman at home was smashing things again.Â
Justin said calmly, “Let her smash whatever she wants. Just stay out of it. I don’t want you to get hurt.”Â
Brooke’s tone was resentful as she said, “It hurts to see her wrecking everything. All that stuff costs money, you know.”Â
Since she’d known what it was like to be broke, Brooke valued everything she owned.Â
Justin wasn’t paying attention, his mind drifting far from Brooke’s complaints.Â
“Justin, are you even listening to me? Seriously, send her to a psych ward or something. I can’t deal with this anymore,” Brooke said.Â
On the other end, Brooke was clearly losing her patience.Â
Justin managed to pull himself together a little and told Brooke, I saw her.”Â
Brooke paused, then immediately realized who he meant.Â
She couldn’t hide her excitement. “Where? Did she remember you?”Â
Justin’s voice was low and flat. “She doesn’t remember me.”Â

Chapter 353Â
Getting engaged was a total ordeal, especially with a powerhouse family like the Keith family in Grendel City.Â
By the end of the day, Aurelia could barely feel her legs anymoreÂ

Thankfully, Darren was thoughtful as ever. As soon as the party ded, he had someone take Aurelia and Joey back home to the Keith Estate.Â
After her shower, Aurelia flopped onto the bed, feeling like her bones were about to fall apart.Â
Just as she was starting to drift off, there was a knock at the doorÂ
It was a soft, hesitant knock, like someone was trying not to disturb her.Â
Aurelia got up to open the door and found Joey standing there.Â
Joey was hugging a battered old doll, looking a little shy. “Can I sleep with you tonight?” she asked.Â
“Of course,” Aurelia said, opening the door wider to let her in.Â
The two of them, one grown–up, one little, lay together on the bed, finally able to relax for once.Â
Joey mumbled softly, “It’s so nice.”Â
Aurelia didn’t press her for details. She just gently reminded, “Get some sleep now, okay?”Â
Groggy, Aurelia could hear a racket coming from downstairs.Â
A place like the Keith Estate was practically soundproof.Â
But even so, if she could still hear all that noise, whatever was happening down there must be a total mess.Â
Aurelia hesitated, wondering if she should go down and see what was going on.Â
Just as she sat up, her phone buzzed with a message from DarrenÂ
Darren: [Don’t worry. Just sleep.]Â
Aurelia lay back down.Â
Before long, the noise from downstairs fadedÂ
away.Â
Exhausted, Aurelia finally drifted off to sleep.Â
In the morning, the doctor knocked on the door, saying he was there for Joey’s daily health check.Â
It was part of Joey’s everyday routine.Â
Joey had unique health needs, so Darren had hired a private doctor to monitor her daily and make sure nothing ever went wrong.Â
While the doctor was checking her, Joey looked a bit sheepish and confessed, “I didn’t take my sedatives last night.”Â
The doctor blinked in surprise. “Did you still manage to fall asleep?”Â
Joey nodded eagerly. “I did. And I slept well.”Â
The doctor was genuinely shocked. “This is the first time in five years you’ve been able to fall asleep naturally, without anyÂ
sedatives.”Â

His excitement was obvious.Â
Aurelia knew Joey had a health issue and needed to take medication long–term.Â
But she had no idea that Joey couldn’t fall asleep by herself and ad to rely on special sedatives to stay asleep.Â
Once Joey went to freshen up, Aurelia asked the doctor to get the full story about her situation.Â
The doctor told Aurelia that Joey’s brainwaves weren’t like those of normal people.Â
They were way too active, so they kept messing with her daily life.Â

It was kind of like what some people called ‘genius syndrome‘. Her brain worked differently, almost too well for her own good.Â
That made Aurelia’s heart ache for Joey even more.Â
“Ms. Corin, if you don’t mind, could you help us with a quick experiment? We want to see if Joey can fall asleep naturally when she’s with you, without her medication,” the doctor said.Â
“Of course,” Aurelia replied.Â
When Aurelia and Joey came downstairs for breakfast, Aurelia noticed the living room’s layout had subtly changed.Â
The antique vases that had been on display were missing.Â
Aurelia didn’t give it much thought and just joined Joey for breakfast.Â
The staff mentioned Darren hadn’t come home last night.Â
Aurelia didn’t press for details.Â
While Aurelia was quietly eating breakfast, two maids started gossiping in the local Grendel slang.Â
They figured Aurelia couldn’t understand, so they didn’t bother to lower their voices.Â
But Aurelia could actually catch bits and pieces. She could more or less piece together what they were saying.Â
One maid whispered, “Shirley from the night shift said that crazy woman lost it again last night, smashed a bunch of stuff, even those priceless antique vases in the living room.Â
“They spent the whole night cleaning up and are exhausted.”Â
“Honestly, how can Mrs. Keith be so nice and have a sister who’s totally nuts? Same dad, but they’re like night and day,” the other maid muttered.Â
“Same dad, but different moms. Ms. Sands‘ mom was the mistress who clawed her way up. How could she ever compare to Mrs. Keith, who was married with all the proper ceremony and was the top socialite in Ashmont?”Â
“Figures, like mother, like daughter. Seriously, no shame at all. She’s even got her eye on her own brother–in–law.”Â
Maybe Aurelia gave them a look.Â
The two gossiping maids quickly shut up and hurried off to the other side of the room with their cleaning supplies. Aurelia finally realized it was Juliana who had stirred up all the chaos at the Keith Estate last night.Â
No wonder things got so out of hand. That was totally Juliana’s style.Â

Chapter 353Â
Aurelia wanted nothing to do with Juliana and was honestly glad he’d stayed in her room last night.Â
Just after breakfast, Darren came back in, looking absolutely exhausted.Â
As he shrugged off his coat, Aurelia caught sight of a few scratch marks on his hand, right near his wrist.Â
“I’ve got your flight sorted. You can hop on my private jet to Ashmont later, Darren said, dropping into a chair.Â
He knew she was heading to Ashmont today.Â
“If you can, take Joey with you,” he added.Â
Since Joey was coming along, flying private was the best option.Â
Aurelia agreed without a second thought.Â

After saying their goodbyes to Darren, they set off for Ashmont, bringing Joey’s private doctor along for the trip.Â
Once they landed in Ashmont, Aurelia followed the pick–up details Miranda had sent and found the car waiting for them.Â
After getting in, she told the driver to take the doctor to the hotel first.Â
The driver didn’t say a word, just quietly punched the hotel address into the GPS.Â
As the car pulled away, he kept stealing glances at Aurelia in the back seat through the rearview mirror.Â
