Just then, the car pulled up to Leonardo’s psychology clinic. Aurelia closed her laptop, grabbed Joey, and got out of the car. 

When they arrived, Leonardo’s assistant welcomed them at the door. 

Even though they had an appointment, they were half an hour early. 

The assistant told them Leonardo was still with another patient, so they’d need to wait a bit. 

Then the assistant led them to a cozy indoor garden to wait. 

There was a chubby orange cat there, super friendly and always looking for attention. 

Joey was instantly smitten. As soon as they got to the garden, she couldn’t stop playing with the cat.

‘A scar on his forehead?‘ Aurelia thought to herself. 

A face instantly popped into her mind. 

But other thoughts quickly crowded it out. 

Smiling, Aurelia patted Joey’s head. “Make sure you cooperate when the psychologist asks you questions, okay?” 

While Joey was having her session with Leonardo, Aurelia waited outside. 

When Joey came out, she was holding an origami frog. 

She happily handed it to Aurelia, saying, “Dr. Markey gave me this origami frog! If you press it, it jumps really far. Isn’t it cute?” 

“Since the doctor gave it to you, you should keep it,” Aurelia said. 

Joey carefully tucked it into her pocket and explained, “Dr. Markey said he gives every patient an origami frog when they come for counseling. They’re all colorful.” 

‘No wonder Leonardo’s a shrink. Those little details are pretty clever, Aurelia thought.

Jasper looked around, something about this place felt familiar. 

But he just couldn’t put his finger on why it felt so familiar. 

When Cassian got back to his place, he flipped on the lights. 

The light wasn’t all that bright, but it was enough to light up his one–bedroom apartment. 

He pulled out the origami frog Leonardo had handed him, and just chucked it into the wicker basket by the coffee table.

On Sunday, Aurelia went with Ella to the hospital for her routine check–up. 

She’d already booked an appointment with a specialist online, so all they had to do was show up on time and wait in line. 

When they got to the nephrology department, Aurelia told Ella to sit down and wait while she went to check how many people were ahead of them. 

The display showed there were still three people ahead of Ella. 

The first name on the list was Cassian L*. 

Aurelia felt a jolt. 

‘It’s probably just someone with a similar name,’ Aurelia thought. 

But right then, the announcement blared, “Cassian Locke.” 

Across the room, someone got up and walked toward the specialist’s office. 

Aurelia tried not to look that way, but out of the corner of her eye, she still caught a glimpse of a tall, lean silhouette. 

When she came back to Ella, it was obvious her mind was somewhere else.
