At that moment, Jasper’s heart was in his throat. 

He even felt like covering Cassian’s eyes. 

But he just didn’t have the guts. 

In the end, all he could do was ask, worried, “Cassian, are you okay?”

Like Cassian could be okay right now, Jasper thought to himself. 

Cassian didn’t say a word, but he was definitely not okay.

On the way back to the Keith Estate, Darren and Aurelia started talking about the Sands family dinner. 

It was the Sands family patriarch’s birthday. 

Since it wasn’t a milestone birthday, they were just planning to invite close friends and family to a restaurant 

Even though Zofia was gone, Darren was still the Sands family’s son–in–law, so there was no way he could skip this dinner. 

Darren wanted Aurelia to go with him to the dinner. 

He wanted to put on another act, just to make sure Juliana finally gave up on him.

That was why he hadn’t stopped the Sands family from getting Juliana out of the mental hospital.

Darren’s eyes softened for a moment, and he murmured, “That’s good.” 

Aurelia was so focused on Joey that she completely missed the emotion in Darren’s gaze. 

Darren turned his gaze to the window, looking out at the scenery. 

The only thing Zofia couldn’t let go of before she passed was Joey. 

So all these years, Darren had devoted himself to looking after Joey. 

That was the only thing that kept him going. 

If Joey finally had someone Darren could truly entrust her to. 

Maybe then… I could finally go be with Zofia, Darren thought. 

Jasper was definitely something else. 

He even managed to get the inside scoop that Aurelia was going to join Darren at the Sands family patriarch’s birthday dinner. 

Since it wasn’t a formal birthday dinner, there weren’t any invitations or anything like that. 

Jasper was stumped for a second, wondering how he was supposed to sneak in 

Cassian just said, “Just show up” 

Jasper hesitated. “You have some kind of history with the Sands family?” 

Cassian gave him a sideways glance. “Well, does breaking four of their precious daughter’s ribs with a single kick count as history? 

Jasper was instantly silent, the kind of silence that was deafening. 

He couldn’t help but wonder if the Sands family would just throw them out of the hotel tomorrow

“Seriously, why did you kick their daughter? And that hard? She’s a woman!” Jasper blurted out, completely stunned. 

Jasper just couldn’t wrap his head around it. 

Cassian was never the type to hit a woman. Jasper couldn’t recall him ever doing something like that. 

Cassian’s gaze turned icy. “Because she went after Aurelia.” 

Jasper understood instantly. 

Yeah, she totally deserved it,‘ Jasper thought. 

The next day, when Aurelia arrived at the Sands family birthday banquet with Darren, Juliana was already standing beside her father, Joseph. 

She had completely changed her usual look, wearing a plain white velvet dress. 

The dress was embroidered with a few sparse, delicate orchid branches, their colors so pale they seemed to have been touched by the morning mist. 

It was elegant. 

But the style looked really familiar. 

Aurelia instantly caught on to what Juliana was up to. 

She was deliberately dressing up to mimic Zofia’s signature look. 

Darren, too, paused in his tracks. 

Aurelia heard him murmur softly, “Zofia.” 

When Joseph saw Darren, he immediately smiled and called out, “Darren, you’re here!” 

Juliana turned around, her eyes bright with excitement as she greeted Darren, “Darren!” 

But when her gaze shifted to Aurelia, her eyes narrowed, turning noticeably colder. 

Now this was the textbook definition of a wannabe: awkwardly trying to copy someone and totally missing the mark 

Juliana might have looked like Zofia, and she was clearly going out of her way to copy Zofia’s look. 

But honestly, she was still light–years away from being anything like Zofia. 

Darren caught on, too. His gaze was icy and razor–sharp, like a blade fresh out of the forge 

He didn’t even acknowledge Juliana, just nodded at Joseph and took Aurelia straight to their seats 

He didn’t spare Juliana another glance. 

Juliana felt wronged and full of hatred for Aurelia 

She was sure Darren wouldn’t even look at her if it weren’t for Aurelia being there. 

Aurelia didn’t lose sight of her mission. She kept things sweet with Darren the whole time, playing the affectionate partner without missing a beat.

All the while, Juliana was practically burning holes in her with those death glares. 

Even though it was just a regular birthday dinner, the Sands family invited a ton of people. 

They set up ten full tables for the guests. 

Aurelia and Darren were seated at the main table. 

As for Jasper and Cassian, the hotel staff stuck them all the way at the last table. 

They were seated far from Aurelia, so she didn’t even notice they were there. 

As soon as Cassian sat down, he overheard the guests at the next table gossiping about Darren and Aurelia.

‘Did you see that? That’s Darren’s fiancée. She’s gorgeous and has such a great vibe. I heard she owns a bunch of big companies back in the mainland. She’s loaded!” 

‘Honestly, they really do look like a perfect match.” 

Yeah, just look at how close they are. When I went over to wish Joseph a happy birthday, I saw her peeling shrimp and feeding Darren. Their relationship is seriously off the charts.”

conversation. 

When they all looked over in surprise, he flashed an innocent grin. “Just getting some wine, don’t mind me.” 

He grabbed some red wine and nudged Cassian. “Cassian, hand me your glass before you crush it to pieces.” 

Cassian finally released his death grip on the glass. 

How about switching to water?” Jasper suggested. 

Before Jasper could even finish, Cassian grabbed the bottle right out of his hand and poured wine straight into his glass, no hesitation, no holding back. 

He filled it to the brim. 

Just as Jasper was about to tell him to take it easy, Cassian knocked back the whole glass in one shot 

Jasper just stared at him, totally at a loss for words. 

‘Dude’s gonna get himself plastered drinking like that, Jasper thought. 

“Cassian…” Jasper said quietly, worry in his voice. 

“She hates peeling shrimp. She can’t stand any seafood she has to peel by hand. She hates the smell it leaves on her skin,” Cassian muttered, his voice tight.
