But since she didn’t recognize the girl, Aurelia gave her a coutward look and asted, her you cating neÂ
“Yes,” Brooke nodded.Â
Brooke’s cheeks numed red, and she stammered nervously, “11), Ms Coro, I’m Brodie Cause de remember me?”Â
A few years ago. Aurelia wondered, trying to jog ber memoryÂ
‘But I can’t recall anything yet; she thoughtÂ
Brooke prompted her, “The cruise ship, the casino”Â
With that clue, Aurelia’s memory clicked, “Oh, you’re the young girl, fiberÂ
Brooke’s face lit up when she saw that Aurelia remembered her. “Yest You helped my brother who lot of money at the casino back then. I never got the chance to thank you properly”Â
“It’s good I could help out. How’s your foster mom doing now?” Aurelia askedÂ
Brooke gave a bitter smile, “She passed away”Â
Aurelia realized she’d put her foot in her mouth and quickly apologized. I’m sorry, 1 didn’t know.Â
Brooke quickly shook her head. “It’s all in the past now. But I still want to thank you. Because of your help, our fouter mom got to live for another year, and my brother and I have no regrets?Â
Just then, another car pulled up behind them. Aurelia nodded at Brooke and was about to get in her car.Â
Brooke hurried after her. “Ms. Corin, could I get your contact inforÂ
‘Sure,” Aurelia said, pulling out a business card and handing it to her.Â
Brooke took the card with both hands, stood there watching Aurelia’s car drive away, and only then did she admire the business card again and again, like it was the most precious thing in the world.Â
Then, beaming with excitement, she called her brother Justin, “Justin, I ran into Ms. Corin! I talked to her and even got her number!”Â
Justin was about to head to a meeting at the office, but when he heard Brooke’s news, he dropped everything. “Where are you? I’ll be there right away”Â

“At the hospital. I’m here to pick up meds for that crazy woman,” Brooke replied.Â
“Wait for me, Justin said.Â
Justin swung by and picked up Brooke in no time.Â
He took Aurelia’s business card and studied it like it was some kind of treasure, turning it over in his hands.Â
55 VOUCHEÂ
Brooke asked curiously, “Justin, is her last name pronounced ‘Corin‘ or ‘Coren‘? I checked online, and there are different ways to say it, so I’m not sure which one’s right.”Â
Justin replied firmly, “Corin.”Â
Brooke quietly echoed the name, “Corin.”Â
As soon as they walked in, a wooden carving suddenly crashed right in front of them.Â
Justin threw his arm out to block Brooke. The carving smacked into his arm with a heavy thud, then rolled onto the floor.Â
The wood was so solid that it didn’t even crack. It just lay there on the floor, completely unscathed.Â
The whole place was a total mess.Â
The servant in charge hurried over and reported to Justin, “She’s gone off the rails again today! Throwing things everywhere! I couldn’t stop her!”Â
Justin’s expression darkened. “Give her a sedative.”Â
Half an hour later, Justin headed up to the third–floor room.Â
The doctor had just finished administering a sedative to the woman lying on the bed.Â
Whether it was the effects of the medication or simply that she had no strength left, the woman had finally stopped struggling.Â
She lay motionless, her hollow eyes fixed on the ceiling, as if all life had drained out of her.Â
She didn’t even blink.Â
“You may leave now,” Justin ordered the doctor.Â
Once the doctor was gone, Justin strode over to the bed, towering over the woman. “Have you had enough, Tessa?”Â
But she didn’t respond at all, just lay there motionless.Â
After a moment of silence, Justin spoke again, “Yvonne.”Â
This time, the woman finally responded.Â
She called out loudly, “I’m here!”Â
Her gaze slowly came into focus, finally settling on Justin’s face.Â
Maybe it was because Justin wasn’t wearing a lab coat that Tessa wasn’t as wary of him.Â
She even begged him, “Please, get me out of here! I’m not insane! I was dragged here against my will! Please, help me! MyÂ

kg his epes lowered, his voice icy. “You’re not in a mental hospital anymore”Â
But a doctor just gave me an injection“” Tessa shrank back again.Â
She looked absolutely terrified, her fear written all over her face and in her eyes.Â
“That’s a sedative, meant to calm you, not a hallucinogen, Justin said coldly.Â
Where am I, then Tesus asked, her voice tremblingÂ
“Grendel Justin replied.Â
Tessa’s mind spun for a second, then she begged Justin, “Can you call my fiancé? Ask him to pick me up. I just want to go homeÂ
“I want to go home! My fiancé’s waiting for me so he can propose,” she said, her voice shaky with desperation.Â
“He bought this gorgeous, super expensive sapphire for the proposal,” she added, her eyes lighting up with hope.Â
“Oh, and his name is Cassian,” she said.Â
Under the influence of the sedative, Tessa finally drifted off into a heavy sleep,Â
When Justin stepped out of the room, Brooke was waiting for him with a bowl of soup. “Justin, drink up. I put in some medicine, they’re supposed to be good for your kidneys”Â
She followed him inside and didn’t relax until he finished the soup. “So, is that crazy woman knocked out now?Â
“Yeah, Justin replied, rubbing his temples.Â
He’d been swamped with so much lately, and it was really wearing him down.Â
“So, is she actually crazy or what?” Brooke asked, genuinely curious.Â
Justin shrugged, sounding indifferent. “She wasn’t crazy at first, but after being stuck in a place like that for years, anyone would lose it”Â
Brooke rarely felt sympathy, but this time she did. “Guess I should be a little nicer to her. She’s honestly pretty pitifulÂ
She had a kidney taken out and got locked up in a place like that. Anyone would go crazy, Brooke thought.Â
Brooke was about to ask Justin why he brought that crazy woman back, but then she saw him reach for his waist, his face Twisting in pain.Â
All her questions disappeared, and she asked, worried, “Is it hurting again? Should I call a doctor?”Â
It’s fine, just hand me the meds,” Justin said.Â
‘Okay” Brooke replied.Â
Early the next morning, Aurelia spent the whole day in meetings at MegaTech.Â
