Mia caught on right away that something was up. 

If she missed something like this after all these years as close friends, she’d be nothing but a phony. 

She crossed her arms. “Spill it. What happened last night?” 

Aurelia didn’t even know where to start. 

It was so embarrassing. She felt so ashamed that she couldn’t even face anyone. 

Just a couple of days ago, she’d firmly drawn the line with Cassian, acting all righteous. Yet now… 

‘Fate really has a twisted sense of humor, she thought. 

“Was it Mr. Keith?” Mia asked. 

“No,” Aurelia shot back right away. 

Mia was even more confused now. 

‘If it were any other guy, Aurelia definitely wouldn’t be acting like this,‘ Mia thought. 

The only possibility flashed through Mia’s mind. 

Her expression shifted in a flash. “Was it Cassian?” 

Aurelia buried her face in her hands. 

The answer was obvious. 

Mia was so mad she could explode. “Seriously? He’s after my bestie again!”

She was about to rant some more, but seeing Aurelia’s worried frown, she knew exactly what was bothering her. So Mia just waved it off and comforted, “Come on, just treat it like you hooked up with a gigolo. No big deal.” 

“And I didn’t even pay for it,” Aurelia muttered. 

Mia’s lips twitched. “Well, guess you scored a free gigolo then.” 

Mia’s words made Aurelia’s mind jolt. Her heart skipped a beat out of nowhere. 

Cassian had said something along those lines last night. 

He’d teased, “Guess you got another free ride out of me.” 

Another? What does he mean by that?‘ Aurelia wondered. ‘Is he keeping score or something?‘ 

She’d mentioned before about getting a free night with Cassian, with Jasper and Tessa right there.

She never thought he’d still remember it now. 

Before Aurelia could even process it, Maurene called.

Mia barely got a word in before she exploded. “What the hell? They are saying I’m some sugar baby? Are they nuts? Who started this rumor? Did they even bother with proof before spreading this nonsense?” 

Maurene said, “It’s at the top of the trending list. Someone obviously paid to make it blow up, and tons of marketing accounts are pushing it. It’s causing a huge stir.” 

Mia had been around the scene for years, always played nice with everyone, and her reputation was solid. 

Only one person would pull something this big against her. 

Maurene continued, “The press release dropped in the middle of the night and blew up on the trending charts by dawn, so we didn’t catch the buzz right away. 

“Looks like Leonie dropped that smear article about you to cover up the fact that she got kicked off the charity gala red carpet. 

“Yesterday, she popped the champagne and posted about walking the red carpet way too early, and now she’s dragging you down to cover her own embarrassment.” 

“Fucking bitch!” Mia snapped, not caring about her image at all. 

While Mia was still chatting with Maurene, Aurelia pulled up the viral scandal and instantly spotted what was really going

It turned out that someone had purposely screenshotted Mia’s Instagram post, then hired people to spin a story from the picture and blast it online, stirring up all this mess. 

Aurelia wasted no time. She alerted Regal Investment’s legal and PR teams to jump on it right away. 

The scandal was yanked off the trending list, and an official statement was issued. 

After hanging up with Maurene, Mia fumed as she dug Herbert’s number out of her block list and dialed him without hesitation. 

The phone rang for ages before someone finally picked up. 

Mia was just about to speak when the voice on the other end made her skin crawl. 

It was Leonie. 

“Mia, are you looking for Herbert? He’s busy right now and can’t take your call,” Leonie said, sounding sickeningly sweet and pretentious. 

But now wasn’t the time to gag. 

Mia had been struggling to track down the culprit, and now Leonie had just handed herself over. 

There was no need for anyone to pass the message along. 

Mia went off. “You posted that smear article about me, didn’t you? Leonie, how low can you go?” 

Leonie acted totally unfazed, playing innocent. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. We’re busy, so try calling later.

“You fucking” Mis started, but Leonie hung up before de could fish, 

“Shiff” Mia spat, not caring about manners. 

“So? What did she say? Aurelia asked, knowing Mia was on the phone with Leonie but dueless about what had gones Mia so riled up. 

Mia grumbled, “She said they’re busy and I’m interrupting 

“What could they be busy doing this early in the morning?” Aurelia asked, totally battled. 

Mia snorted, “What do you think people are busy with early in the morning?” 

Aurelia was lost for words, 

‘Man, this is turning into a tongue twister, Aurelia thought. 

Mia sprang out of bed in one smooth move, leaving Aurelia staring in shock. 

‘She’s got some moves, Aurelia thought, impressed. 

Aurelia finally snapped out of it and asked, “Where are you going?” 

“I’m going to rip that shameless couple to shreds, Mia declared. 

Mia was a total firecracker. One spark, and she’d blow up, 

Aurelia knew there was no stopping her, so she simply hopped out of bed and decided to tag along. 

Mostly, she wanted to keep an eye on Mia, have Mia’s back, and make sure Mia didn’t get taken advantage of 

But as soon as her feet touched the floor, her legs felt so weak and sore that she almost dropped right then and there. 

Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she found herself mentally cursing Cassian, “That bastard!” 

Just as they were about to head out, Zane showed up. 

He was carrying two breakfasts he’d queued up for. 

“Where are you two headed?” Zane asked. 

Mia gritted her teeth. “I’m out for blood,” 

Zane smirked. “Sounds interesting. Take me with you. I’ve never killed anyone before.” 

Aurelia was lost for words. 

“These two are so in sync, it’s like their brains could connect even if they were playing on different servers, Aurelia thought. 

At the hotel, when Herbert stepped out of the bathroom and spotted Leonie there, he was surprised. “When did you get here?” 

Leonie explained, “Just now. Your secretary let me in.” 

Then she added, “Oh, and he went to the restaurant to grab your breakfast.”

Herbert didn’t bother asking anything else. He just grabbed his phone from the nightstand and took a look. 

Still nothing. There were no messages or calls. 

He thought about calling Mia, but his number was still sitting in her block list. 

Even his assistant and secretary got blocked, too. 

She was still holding a grudge after all this drama. He’d even gone out of his way to find her, yet she was still acting all aloof. 

She even tried to make him jealous by being with Zane. 

‘Is it because I didn’t give her a big enough cut?‘ Herbert wondered. ‘Since when did Mia get so greedy? 

Herbert was feeling pretty irritated. 

Leonie piped up, “Herbert, I need your help.” 

“What is it?” Herbert asked, massaging his brow. 

“It’s about my job…” Leonie sounded a little hesitant and whiny. “Lately, I’ve been running into dead ends everywhere. Deals 

I thought were locked in fell apart, and now everyone avoids me like the plague. 

“I seriously don’t know what I did wrong. I just want to work, but why does it have to be so hard?” 

As she spoke, her eyes started to well up with tears. 

Herbert’s headache got even worse. “Once we’re back, I’ll put in a word for you. Don’t worry.” 

Leonie pouted. “What about your grandma?” 

“She’s heading off for a retreat next week. She’ll be totally cut off, so she won’t hear a thing,” Herbert replied., 

“I’ll keep things low–key then,” Leonie said. 

Leonie always played the obedient card, making things a breeze for Herbert. 

If only Mia could be this easy to handle, Herbert thought. 

Just as he was thinking that, his secretary called. “Mr. Norman, I just saw Mrs. Norman. She got in the elevator and is heading upstairs. It looks like she’s coming to see you.” 

Herbert felt a wave of relief wash over him. 

‘Is she finally done making a scene?‘ he thought.
