Chapter 401

1

Regan was fuming. You’re nothing but trouble! Zofia’s barely cold in her grave, and you’re already throwing yourself at Darren! You even use Joey to get his attention. You’re so scheming!”

Mia shot back. You crazy old hag, that’s enough! The real shameless one, Juliana! She even tried to crawl into her own brotherinlaw’s bed! Zofia had barely passed away, and she was already scrambling to take her place. She’s the real disgrace!”

Mia had never lost a verbal fight in her life. Ever since Regan married Joseph, she’d been playing the part of a highsociety lady, and her trashtalking skills had long gone rusty. She was no match for Mia.

Juliana is the most shameless, the most despicable, the absolute worst!Mia shouted at the top of her lungs. Mia was letting loose, not holding back at all.

Regan almost lost her breath, clutching her chest and struggling to breathe.

Just then, Aurelia got out of the car and walked straight toward her. Rex, worried Regan might do something reckless and hurt Aurelia, immediately tensed up and kept a close eye on her.

As Aurelia approached, her face dark with anger, she asked, Did you just say Cassian once broke four of Juliana’s ribs and had her locked up in a psych ward for five years?”

Faced with Aurelia’s intimidating presence, Regan immediately shrank back, stammering, It’s the truth. Back then, Juliana was jealous and threw you into the sea. Cassian was so furious that he kicked her, breaking four of her ribs.

She was bedridden for three months before she could even walk again. She still has several surgical scars on her chest, which means she can’t even wear formal dresses now”

Regan kept rambling on, but Aurelia could barely hear her anymore. Her mind was so chaotic that Regan’s accusations just faded into the background.

All this time, Aurelia had thought Darren was the one who kicked Juliana, so she’d always been thankful to him. It wasn’t until now that things finally started to make sense for Aurelia.

Even if Juliana had crossed the line, she was still Zofia’s sister. Darren would never have been that ruthless.

Just like now. Even after Juliana drugged her, Darren, out of respect for his late wife, would have only warned Juliana or kept her under house arrest.

He would never have taken such drastic action. So it was Cassian who jumped into the sea to save her back then.

And it was Cassian who took Juliana away to defend her now. From start to finish, it had always been Cassian.

Her mind was a mess after that revelation. Not caring about Regan’s rant anymore, she rushed back to the car and dug around in her bag for her phone.

She wanted to call Cassian. She had to figure this out.

Mia caught on and handed her the phone from the seat beside her.

Aurelia took the phone, her fingers shaking just a bit.

Meanwhile, Juliana was cursing up a storm as Cassian forced the medicine down her throat. Her curses were downright

filthy, enough to make anyone cringe.

But Cassian didn’t even flinch. After struggling to no avail, Juliana stared daggers at Cassian, her eyes bloodshot, looking like she could eat him alive.

Cassian, I’m going to make you pay for what happened today!Juliana screamed, her voice hoarse with rage. I’m insane, you know! I could kill someone and no one would blame me! I swear, I’ll kill you, mark my words!”

All the old grudges and fresh hatred were driving Juliana’s unstable nerves right to the brink. If she had a knife right now, she’d stab Cassian in the chest without a second thought.

Cassian didn’t even bother to take her threats seriously. He just gave her a mocking smirk. Well, looks like we’re both crazy. Killing someone wouldn’t get me in trouble either. Want to see who goes first?”

Someone nearby handed Cassian a knife without a second thought. Cassian took it, moving slowly and deliberately, pressing the back of the blade right up to Juliana’s throat.

The chill of the metal made her face turn deathly pale, her lips quivering. Ddon’t do anything stupid.”

You’re the one who started this, got it?Cassian said, his tone cold and mocking.

He pressed the blade just a bit harder against her skin. Didn’t you learn your lesson five years ago? Why do you keep going after her? I warned you, but you just never get it,Cassian said coldly.

The back of the blade pressed into her trembling neck, leaving a deep indentation. Juliana felt like she couldn’t breathe, as if her lungs had been snatched away. She didn’t dare make a sound.

She was terrified that even the slightest movement might provoke the man in front of her, whose face was dark and full of menace. She had never seen such an utterly terrifying look on a man’s face.

He might have been handsome, but right now, his face was enough to make her blood run cold. I’m sorry, I was wrong. Please, let me go,Juliana stammered, truly terrified.

I won’t ever dare to do it again, I swear. Please, just let me go,she begged desperately, her voice cracking.

Her eyes instantly filled with tears, fat drops mixing with cold sweat as they rolled down her face. Her whole body started shaking uncontrollably.

Cassian slowly moved the knife, letting the tip glide down and slice through the ropes binding her, Juliana thought he was letting her go, and she was about to thank him, tears welling up in her eyes.

Cassian tossed the knife aside, turned to the people in the room, and said, Make sure she gets plenty of attention.”

Juliana hadn’t even figured out what was going on before Cassian and Jasper slipped out. The door closed again, and the room fell into darkness.

She tried to get up, but her arms and legs felt like jelly; she just couldn’t make her body move. Her body felt all wrong. reacting in ways she couldn’t understand.

She felt like she was on fire. It was like a swarm of ants crawling under her skin, making her itch and squirm.

What did you give me? Why am I feeling like this?Juliana yelled, clawing at her clothes in desperation.

You should know this drug better than anyone, Miss Sands. After all, you brought it here yourself, one of the men said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

What does this drug do?Juliana wondered, panic starting to rise inside her. ‘Is this the one I had someone sneak into

Aurelia’s drink? No!Juliana felt a wave of dread crash over her.

Panic washed over Juliana’s face. Let me out! Let me out, now!she screamed, her voice cracking with terror. But her frantic demands fell on deaf ears.

Her mind was quickly overwhelmed by the effects of the drug. She forgot about escaping, forgot about fear; her only instinct was to claw at what little clothing she still had on.

Even as the men remained unmoved, she crawled toward them, reaching out for any response. Please, help me. I’m begging you, please help me,Juliana pleaded, her voice trembling with desperation.

The sea wind howled, drowning out all the noise. The night out on the open sea felt especially heavy and dark. It was like a black hole in space, ready to swallow everything whole.

Cassian lit a cigarette, but just let it sit between his fingers, letting the wind eat away at it until it burned out. He never even took a puff.

Jasper hesitated, then asked, Cassian, isn’t this a bit too cruel?”

Cassian’s face was cold, his voice flat and emotionless. Five years ago, right here in these waters, the weather was just as wild as tonight, wind raging, waves rolling. Even a strong swimmer would barely stand a chance. But Juliana had people toss her into the ocean.”

That was something he’d never be able to forget. Even after nearly two thousand days had passed.

Even though he knew Aurelia was safe now. But whenever he remembered that moment, intense fear and dread would still grip him.

Whenever he brought it up, his voice would shake. He’d get choked up without even realizing it. If I’d been even a moment late, I wouldn’t have been able to save her.Cassian’s voice was barely audible.

He’d spent years plotting his revenge. He knew perfectly well that he and Aurelia might part ways someday.

He could accept her living a life without him, even if she got married to another guy and had a family, as long as she was happy.

But the one thing he could never accept was her dying. Especially not right in front of him.

So, Juliana had to die.
