Chapter 48 

“Cassian is such an asshole! Seven years! Not seven days, not seven months, but a whole seven years! How can he treat you like this?” Mia shouted. 

After the call, Mia hurried to pick up Aurelia and then took the latter home. 

Whenever possible, Mia would make good dishes to comfort Aurelia in a bad mood. 

Mia was not only a stunner but also a good cook. Aurelia felt healed whenever she ate the food made by Mia. 

Mia always cooked according to Aurelia’s mood. She would whip up three dishes and a soup if Aurelia was just a little down. 

There would be five dishes and a soup if Aurelia felt upset. Mia thought about preparing a feast when Aurelia was sorrowful, like tonight. 

After two busy months and a long flight, Mia needed a good rest, but she was now preparing dinner for Aurelia in the kitchen. 

“Mia, enough. Stop. I don’t think I could eat that much.” Thoughtful, Aurelia timely stopped Mia from exhausting herself. 

Mia studied Aurelia’s expression for a while and concluded that her bestie looked a bit better now. Then, she washed her hands and dined with Aurelia. 

“Want a drink?” Aurelia asked. She used to drink with Mia a lot. 

Mia shook her head. “You have a weak stomach, and you are delicate. Don’t drink wine if possible. Try the soup. It is healthy.” 

Aurelia couldn’t convince Mia, so she yielded. 

‘Honestly, alcohol is addictive and poisonous, like Cassian,‘ she thought, so she shifted her attention from the wine to the soup. 

That night, Mia and Aurelia slept on the same bed and had a casual chat. 

With Mia around, Aurelia had a good sleep and not a single dream that night. 

After breakfast, Aurelia got a call from the Kim Group about an interview. ‘A pretty good start,’ she thought to 

herself. 

The Kim Group wasn’t as large as Honoria Capital, but it found its niche in the field. 

With her expertise, Mia helped dress Aurelia up for the interview. 

“See? That is the real you!” Mia didn’t forget to roast Aurelia’s old attire. “Your outfits are like those for the nuns. I will dump them right away. All!”

“Don’t. I paid good money for them.” Aurelia protested. 

“Ugly clothes should be dumped along with all the scumbags,” Mia declared, 

“Alright!” Aurelia relented. “That’s a good reason,‘ she thought.

Mia looked Aurelia up and down as her satisfaction increased. “Aurelia, why did you dress like a nun?” Honestly, she didn’t have the answer to this question. 

Aurelia became evasive. She didn’t tell the truth till Mia made her. “Cassian doesn’t like me to dress said that I would bring him a lot of rivals if I dressed up.”

“Screw him!” Mia considered this answer unacceptable. “He is just possessive.” 

Aurelia would speak up for Cassian if she were still blinded by love. She would say that he made that because he was jealous and cared about her.

Now, she didn’t defend him anymore, and she agreed with Mia. ‘Men are scumbags, she thought to herself. 

Aurelia showed up at the Kim Group right at ten, and the HR manager of the Kim Group personally interviewed her. 

She gave perfect answers to those technical questions, and her performance was satisfactory. 

“Please wait here. I’m going to take your resume to Mr. Kim for his opinion,” the HR manager said, beaming at Aurelia. 

Aurelia nodded. Right then, she received a message from Mia. 

Mia: [How is the interview?] 

Aurelia: [Everything goes well.] 

Mia then sent a bunch of celebratory memes over and asked Aurelia to buy her dinner. 

Aurelia agreed and let Mia pick the restaurant. Without hesitation, Mia got down to pick the restaurant. 

About half an hour later, the HR manager reappeared with a straight face. 

Aurelia had a bad feeling as her heart skipped a beat. 

“I’m sorry, Ms. Corin. Mr. Kim didn’t approve your application.” The HR manager handed back Aurelia’s resume with an apologetic look. “Thanks for your time.” 

Aurelia managed to stay calm. She took her resume back. 

Disappointed, she was no stranger to refusals. Now, it wasn’t so difficult for her to accept another refusal. 

“May I know the reason?” Aurelia asked sincerely. 

The HR manager shook her head. “I honestly don’t know.” 

Aurelia didn’t make things difficult for the HR manager. She said goodbye and then left. 

Waiting for the elevator, Aurelia got a message from Mia, who said that she had already picked out the 

restaurant. 

Aurelia: [Great.] 

When the elevator doors slid open, Aurelia heard footsteps and voices behind her. 

Those voices were familiar to her, and they sent a cold shiver down her back. “Tough luck,‘ she thought. 

Those voices belonged to Cassian and Tessa. 

‘Cassian does take Tessa everywhere with him,‘ Aurelia grumbled inwardly. 

“Mr. Locke, you are so kind. I didn’t expect you to personally talk with me about this project. I feel flattered.” 

Cassian responded, “Ms. Rowe is responsible for this project. She just came home from abroad, so she is unfamiliar with the situation in Ashmont. I am here to give her a confidence boost.” 

Gilbert instantly got the meaning between the lines. “I see. You are here to back her up.” 

Tessa gave a sweet smile. It seemed she resigned to her fate, but she was actually showing off how much Cassian spoiled her. 

“Cassian is too worried about me. I can handle things by myself, but he doesn’t think so. He insisted on coming with me, so what could I do?” Tessa complained sweetly. 

With her back to the lovers, Aurelia still felt hurt by their public display of affection. 

The resume in her hand was squeezed into a ball. At that moment, all her hidden emotions exploded outward. 

Aurelia turned around and faced the people behind her. 

“Ms. Corin? Why are you still here?” Gilbert recognized Aurelia. Ten minutes ago, he had looked at her 

resume. 

To his surprise, she was more beautiful than the photo on her resume. His eyes lit up, and he regretted his hasty rejection. 

Unfazed, Aurelia shot a glance at Cassian and then looked at Gilbert. “Mr. Kim, may I ask why you rejected my application?” 

Her candor took Gilbert by surprise, and he didn’t know what to say at that moment. 

“Is it because you learned something bad about me from my background investigation?” Aurelia pushed. 

“Well…” Gilbert started sweating nervously. 

“Mr. Locke is here. Mr. Kim, why don’t you ask him directly if you have any confusion? I want to know his

‘I gave him my heart and my body in the past seven years. What were those sleepless nights to him?‘ she wondered. 

Cassian looked Aurelia in the eye. There was a faint smile on his face, but it didn’t reach his eyes. The look in his eyes was cold. His gaze was so intense and cold that it gave Aurelia pressure. 

However, Aurelia didn’t back down. Her voice was soft but resolute as she asked, “So, Mr. Locke, what’s your comment on the seven years I devoted to you?”
