Chapter 54 

Back when Aurelia had worked as Cassian’s secretary, she had also been lucky enough to attend these kinds of 

dinners. 

But at that time, she didn’t have the status to sit at the table. Most of the time, she was there to shield Cassian from drinks, and when she wasn’t drinking, she had to wait outside. 

After all, these power–player dinners were all about insider deals and strategies regular folks weren’t privy to. 

Yet, Cassian brought Tessa along without hesitation, personally introducing her to everyone and building connections for her, doing everything he could to set her up for success. 

Just how much does Cassian love Tessa to pave the way for her like this?‘ Aurelia couldn’t help but ask herself. 

Darren was interested in Aurelia’s proposal, but as a businessman, profit was his priority. 

He closed the proposal and said honestly, “I actually think this project has great potential. But you know, the economy has been sliding these past two years, and the capital market is chaotic. To stay safe, people are teaming up to lower risk. You understand what I mean, right?” 

“I understand,” Aurelia replied. 

So Darren asked, “Have you considered showing this project to Mr. Locke? If he is in, I’ll definitely co–invest.” 

He continued earnestly, “Ms. Corin, you know it’s always easier when you’ve got someone influential behind you. Resource–wise, I’m honestly more optimistic about Ms. Rowe’s project. After all, she’s got Mr. Locke’s support.” 

But Aurelia? She had no one backing her. 

‘Who would ever choose to invest in someone like me?‘ she thought to herself.

By the time Aurelia left Pione Investment, it had started raining outside. It wasn’t a heavy downpour, but the cold was biting. 

Winters in Ashmont were always like this–once it rained, the damp cold seeped into the bone. 

Just then, Mia texted her, saying it was snowing in Bustead–the very first snowfall of the year–and asked if Aurelia wanted to go see it. 

Growing up in Ashmont, both of them hardly ever saw snow, which made them both have a special fondness for it. 

Aurelia was honestly tempted. But in the end, Aurelia texted back: [Mia, let’s do it next time, okay? I’ve got a project I haven’t secured yet, so even if I go now, I won’t really be able to enjoy it.] 

Mia was exasperated by this workaholic friend of hers and could only reminded: [Don’t overwork yourself. 

Chapter 54 

Take care of yourself.] 

[Got it.] Aurelia replied. 

Mia teased: [Don’t just say it. Do it too.] 

Even with the rain making everything cold and miserable, Mia’s words warmed Aurelia right up inside. 

Just as Aurelia was about to step out of the Pione Investment building, she got a call from Mila. 

On the other end, Mila said anxiously, “Aurelia, my brother’s sick! Could you come to the hospital? He refuses to be admitted, and I can’t get him to listen to me at all!” 

Aurelia immediately took a cab to the hospital. When she saw Tyson, he was arguing with the doctor about not wanting to be admitted, saying he had too much unfinished work. 

The doctor shot Tyson a stern look and said, “In this condition, you’re still worried about work? Are you serious? Have you seen the liver enzyme test results? Your value almost hits 300. Normal is 0 to 40.” 

Mila’s sharp eyes spotted Aurelia, and she reacted like she’d seen a savior, calling out frantically, “Aurelia! Please talk to my brother.” 

“What happened?” Aurelia asked, frowning. 

“It’s nothing serious…” Tyson muttered, trying to play it down. 

Mila didn’t even wait for Tyson to finish and immediately laid everything all out. “Nothing serious? He was vomiting, having diarrhea, and even passed out in the office! If his assistant hadn’t gone back to get something and found him, who knows what would have happened!” 

Mila was genuinely furious, scolding him nonstop and completely ignoring Tyson’s warning looks. 

She snapped, “You can glare at me all you want, but I’m saying it anyway. Aurelia, you have to talk some sense into him! He doesn’t care about his health at all! 

“He’s doing the work of ten people by himself, staying in the office all day and night. His assistant said he hasn’t been home for a week! He’s basically camping at the office!” 

Getting choked up, tears welled in Mila’s eyes, and her voice trembled, “If something ever happened to you, what would Mom do? What would I do?” 

When their father passed away, Mila was still in elementary school, and their mother’s health had always been 

poor. 

All the family’s burdens suddenly fell on Tyson–he became their rock, the one Mila and her mother relied on. That’s why Mila was so emotional. 

Aurelia hugged Mila to comfort her. “It’s okay. I’ll make sure he takes care of himself. Don’t worry.” 

After calming Mila down, Aurelia finally had the chance to talk to Tyson. 

Chapter 54 

“Mila said you’ve been doing the work of ten people. What’s that about?” Her tone grew serious, and her expression was grave. 

“She is being dramatic.” Tyson tried to brush it off, still hoping to downplay the situation. 

But Mila immediately exposed him again. “I’m being dramatic? Do you think I don’t know you’re trying to save money and cut costs!” 

Hearing that, Aurelia felt a pang of guilt. Even though Mila hadn’t gone into detail, Aurelia had already figured out the whole story. 

Tyson must have realized she was short on funds and hadn’t secured any new investors, so he’d tried to reduce expenses and overworked himself to exhaustion just to help her save money. 

Aurelia’s face darkened, and Tyson grew uneasy under her stare. He finally explained honestly, “Engineers‘ salaries are ridiculous these days. Even a junior one costs at least 300,000 dollars a year. That’s too much. Since we haven’t gotten new investments yet, I just thought I could do more myself.” 

“Do more? You’re practically taking over every technical position!” Mila shot back. 

“Stop exaggerating,” Tyson said quickly, not wanting Aurelia to feel pressured. 

He had kept the studio’s situation from her all this time, not wanting her to worry. He hadn’t expected to collapse from overwork, which was how everything came to light. 

Aurelia caught on right away, her eyes sharp with concern. 

She stared at Tyson and said seriously, “Focus on getting better and hire more people when you need to. You just need to handle technical stuff. The money part is my responsibility. Stop stressing over it.” 

“Seriously, Aurelia, you’re the only one who can keep my brother in check.” Mila crowed, proudly linking arms with Aurelia and throwing a triumphant look Tyson’s way. “Look at him. He finally behaves! I hope you can be my sister–in–law!” 

“Mila!” Tyson said, embarrassed. 

Aurelia didn’t take it to heart and instead asked Mila if she had taken leave from school to come to the hospital. 

Mila answered straight away, “Yup, I only asked for a couple of hours off. I’ll need to get back now, so I’m counting on you to keep an eye on my brother for me.” 

Aurelia nodded and agreed. 

Mila then winked at Tyson, hinting for him to seize the chance. 

But Tyson knew his sister was lying and hadn’t taken just a few hours off. She was deliberately giving him time 

alone with Aurelia. 

Aurelia stayed with Tyson for his IV therapy. 

Chapter 54 

Knowing she’d been running around and was exhausted, Tyson sped up the drip while she was in the restroom, just so she’d stop worrying and go home to rest. 

He kept insisting he could manage on his own and that it wasn’t convenient for a woman to take care of him. 

When Aurelia left the hospital, the rain still hadn’t stopped. 

Now that night had settled in, and the air had grown even colder. 

She sat in her car for ages, torn inside, before finally tapping open WhatsApp. 

It suddenly struck Aurelia that she had deleted all their chat history after deciding to leave Cassian. 

The contact she had pinned to the top for seven years was gone from her recent chats. 

To message him now, she had to search for his name in her contacts. 

Years of conversations once carefully kept were now wiped clean, leaving only a blank screen, just like the state of their relationship. 

She sent Cassian a message: [Can I talk to you, Mr. Locke?]
