Chapter 57

People’s hearts were fickle, always shifting with the tide.

Aurelia had stopped expecting anything from Cassian long agoand she sure wasn’t waiting for him to speak up for her.

She quickly averted her gaze, her face unreadable, not giving a hint of emotion.

She looked at Jasper like he was something she’d scraped off the bottom of her shoe.

Jasper had planned to throw a few sarcastic remarks Aurelia’s way, just to save face after she’d put him in his place earlier.

But he never expected her to react like this.

She stayed calm and collected, not even a hint of shame or panic.

Her eyes were full of pure disdain.

Already a little drunk, Jasper got upset by her attitude. The alcohol and his anger mixed, and what he said was no longer just sarcasmit was pure hostility.

Why are you staring at me? Did I say something wrong? You’re so fake! Seriously, you’re just slimyonly care about money, and you’ll do anything to get itJasper snapped, his words growing sharper as anger and alcohol took control.

Enough!Cassian finally spoke, his expression completely unreadable.

Jasper wanted to keep mouthing off, but with Cassian stepping in, he could only shut up.

Tessa, looking awkward, spoke up, Sorry, Aurelia. He’s wasted.”

Aurelia’s face was icy. Maybe Mr. Locke should keep his dog on a tighter leash, before he goes around biting everyone. After all, not everyone’s as fond of that mutt as you are.”

Aurelia, you-Jasper started, his face flushing with anger.

Let it go, Jasper. Enough,Tessa quickly cut in, grabbing his arm to hold him back.

As Aurelia and Graham left together, Tessa glanced over at Cassian.

She wanted to see if he’d so much as flinch at seeing Aurelia like this.

But Cassian’s face stayed cool and detached.

He looked at her like she was a total stranger.

As Aurelia walked away, he quickly turned his eyes elsewhere. He clearly had no intention of giving her even a second look.

The next day, Aurelia showed up at Novalen Capital right on schedule, ready to talk business with Graham.

Graham’s success wasn’t just luckhe actually had an eye for smart investments.

After carefully studying Aurelia’s business plan, he found himself genuinely interested.

But the way he pitched the deal made Aurelia hesitate.

Graham wanted Aurelia to come onboard at Novalen Capital as a project manager,

At the end of the day, he was aiming for more control and benefits.

That was what made a proper capitalistprofit above all else.

If it were just this one condition, Aurelia might’ve actually considered it.

After all, Novalen Capital had plenty of cash to throw around, and Tyson urgently needed an injection of funds.

Sacrificing her own interests was acceptable.

But Graham had another condition. He wanted Tyson to sign a noncompete agreement.

Graham was no fool; he saw right through it. Tyson was the real backbone of the whole project, so he tried to tie him down with that noncompete agreement.

Aurelia could ignore her own interests, but she could not ignore Tyson’s.

So, she politely declined Graham.

Graham wasn’t in a rush. He simply reminded her, I know what’s been going on with you, and I know you’ve approached many companies. By now, you’ve seen how it all turned out.”

Sure, you can keep looking for another firm to help incubate your project, but the AI industry changes so fast that even a single day could make you fall behind. Just think it overthere’s no need to give me your answer right now.”

After leaving Novalen Capital, Aurelia headed straight to the hospital to pick up Tyson.

He insisted on being discharged early, and the doctors had no choice but to agree.

Aurelia had planned to take him straight home, but Tyson insisted on stopping by the studio firsthe said there was some super important paperwork he needed to grab.

When they arrived, Aurelia finally realized what Tyson meant by important paperwork. It was the contract he insisted on signing with her.

I know you haven’t signed this contract for a long time, just to give me more choices. But I said, I will only sign with you, so don’t delay, let’s get this big deal done today.”

This was his sincerity, and also his complete trust in Aurelia.

Chapter 37

Aurelia was somewhat moved

She hadn’t expected Tyson to figure out her plans so easily

On Vauchar

I met Graham from Novaten Capital today: He told me the Al industry changes so fast. If you’re even a day late, you could be left behind. He said I should think very carefully before making any moves”

She looked at Tyson, her voice soll. So, I’m handing those words to you now. I really hope you’ll take them to heart and think it through”

Tyson grabbed the pen off the desk and pushed it toward her, eyes determined. That’s my answer. Sign it”

As Aurelia accepted the pen, she felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. Let me remind you, there is no room for regret after signing it.”

Hurry up and sign!Tyson urged her blindly

And when you first approached me, weren’t you the one bragging about how much you trusted my skills? You really think I’d fall behind now?”

When it came to his area of expertise, Tyson was totally selfassured.

In one smooth stroke, Aurelia scrawled her signature.

The situation was both smooth and bumpy

Aurelia faced every challenge that came with starting a businessnone of them spared.

Still, she stayed steady with a cool head in the middle of the storm.

Life had already hammered her into steel these past few years; it’d take more than this to knock her down

now.

Aurelia was working both angleschasing down investors and applying for loans at every bank she could find.

The whole loan process was a huge hassleso much paperwork, endless waiting. It looked like it could save the day, but in the end, it didn’t really solve anything.

As she watched her account balance shrink day after day, Aurelia couldn’t help itthe anxiety started to creep

  1. in.

After yet another failed visit to the bank, Aurelia settled into a seat on the subway, feeling exhausted.

Right then, her phone kept lighting up with notifications one after another.

She didn’t even need to lookshe already knew exactly who it was.

It was Miranda.

She had this quirky habit of sending message after message, each one broken up into its own little line.

She could easily say everything in one sentence, but instead, every thought got split into three or four separate bubbles.

Aurelia glanced over and tapped open the notifications.

Sure enough, Miranda came to her just to vent.

[Aurelia.]

[Comparing yourself to others]

[Is absolutely driving me crazy!]

[Guess what?]

[Just now, Mr. Locke is]

[Throwing money around lavishly for Ms. Rowe.]

[He bought her a freaking villa in Shunridge Estate]

Aurelia fell silent.

Miranda was still chattering away in messages, but Aurelia’s thoughts came to a brief pause.

The cheapest villas in Shunridge Estate cost more than seventeen million dollars.

Cassian was indeed generous.

He had always been generous toward Tessa, so Aurelia was no longer surprised.

Hearing others rave about how wonderful Cassian was to Tessa didn’t stir any feelings in her.

But hearing he’d blown over seventeen million on a villa for her, Aurelia completely lost her composure.

She nearly wore herself out running around for a loan of just a few hundred thousand dollars.

And here he casually spends tens of millions on a house just to please his first love.

It was just that fate treated people differently.

Miranda was still rambling on the other end. [I think Mr. Locke is just like a king blinded by his favorite mistress. It feels like Honoria Capital is about to get crushed in the process!]

[So, I’m quitting!]

Aurelia just sent back a question mark.

Miranda shot back, [Hey Aurelia, I heard you’re launching a startup. Do you need someone to pour tea and

:

Aurelia teased, [A thousand dollars a monthare you in?]

Miranda: [Count me in!]

Aurelia was stunned.

She just assumed Miranda was joking around. Right as the subway rolled into her stop, she shook it off.

As she was about to step off, her phone lit up with a familiar name.

Cassian texted: [Did you just unsend something shady?]
