Chapter 63Â
Of course, this was Cassian’s business. Aurelia might toss in a sarcastic comment or two, but that was about it.Â
She had no right to interfere.Â
And honestly, she couldn’t be bothered to care.Â
Right now, her biggest headache was figuring out how to score herself another invite to the Al Summit.Â
Just as Aurelia was stressing over the invite, her phone buzzed with a call from Gideon.Â
Gideon was probably quite busy during this time, so Aurelia didn’t bother him much.Â
Even when funds were tight before, she never thought of asking him for help.Â
She knew a bit about the situation at Gold Gauntlet.Â
Honestly, Gideon didn’t come back to take over Gold Gauntlet–he was here to clean up the mess for it.Â
That’s how family businesses were. Over time, all sorts of problems were bound to arise.Â
On top of that, with the previous generation’s leaders being incompetent, Gold Gauntlet had been declining over the years.Â
If it weren’t for those solid foundations, it probably would’ve disappeared from the map ages ago.Â
Ever since Gideon took over, he had been busy dealing with long–standing problems.Â
So when Aurelia answered the call, her first words were, “Are you done with everything?”Â
Gideon gave a wry chuckle. “Close enough.”Â
“All going smoothly?” she asked.Â
“Yeah,” he replied.Â
It was such a simple exchange, but Gideon suddenly felt lighter.Â
For that moment, it was like he could finally let go of all the burden he’d been hauling around.Â
“Are you free right now?” Gideon asked, getting right down to business.Â
“Yeah, I’m free,” Aurelia replied.Â
“Can you swing by Gold Gauntlet?” he asked.Â
Before Aurelia could even react, Gideon explained, “I saw your loan application today and wanted to talk it over with you. If you’re free, could you come by now?”Â
“Sure!” Aurelia agreed right away.Â
Her application was only for a small loan–there was really no need for Gideon himself to get involved.Â
He was just trying to help her out.Â
With Gideon going out of his way like that, there was no way she could say no.Â
On her way over to Gold Gauntlet, Aurelia stopped at a nearby flower shop and picked up a potted kumquat. plant for Gideon’s desk.Â
Gideon had given his secretary a heads–up, so as soon as Aurelia arrived, she got escorted straight to his office. to wait for him.Â
“Ms. Corin, please wait a moment. Mr. Quinn is in a meeting right now, but he’ll be done in about ten minutes,” the secretary said.Â
“No problem, this is a gift for Mr. Quinn. You might need to help find a suitable spot to place it.” Aurelia handed over the little kumquat plant.Â
The secretary took the gift, figured it wasn’t anything valuable, and casually placed it by the window near the office entrance without giving it much thought.Â
Soon after, Gideon finished his meeting and came out. The secretary let him know Aurelia was waiting and also mentioned she’d brought a little plant for him.Â
Gideon halted, curious, and asked, “Where’s the plant Aurelia gave me?”Â
The secretary pointed to the window by the door.Â
Gideon carefully lifted the potted kumquat and brought it into his office.Â
When he walked in, Aurelia was leafing through a finance magazine in the reception area of his office.Â
“Have you been waiting long?” Gideon asked, setting the little kumquat plant just so on his desk before turning to Aurelia with a warm smile.Â
“Not at all,” Aurelia replied.Â
She held up the magazine. “I haven’t even made it past page three.”Â
Gideon sat down, and his first question was, “How’s your project going? Everything smooth?”Â
“Pretty smooth,” Aurelia replied honestly.Â
“Starting is always the hardest. Just take it slow and easy,” Gideon said.Â
Aurelia grinned. “We’re in this together.”Â
Gideon had clearly done some research ahead of time and already knew plenty about Aurelia’s project.Â

But still, he couldn’t help but toss a few more questions her way.Â
Aurelia answered smoothly, showing just how well she understood and had prepared for the project.Â
She even brought the prototype of the product for Gideon to try out.Â
Gideon was genuinely impressed. “This is just the first version, and it’s already doing all this? Aurelia, you’ve really found a winner.”Â
Aurelia added, “It’s still in its pre–training phase, so honestly, what you’re seeing now doesn’t even come close to what the finished product will do.”Â
Gideon grinned, “I’m already impressed, though.”Â
The more Gideon experimented with it, the more impressed he became. “Aurelia, count me in–I’m putting my money behind your project!”Â
Aurelia wasn’t surprised at all; she was absolutely confident in what she’d built.Â
Still, she asked, “So, Gideon, what kind of numbers are we talking?”Â
“For now, about 17 million dollars up front,” Gideon replied. “We’ll watch how things play out and adjust the investment as the project grows.”Â
Even though Aurelia was sure of her project, she was still a little taken aback by the size of Gideon’s investment.Â
“I really appreciate your support, Gideon!” Aurelia said, standing up to shake his hand.Â
“A win–win collaboration. Draft the contract and get it signed as soon as possible so the funds can be transferred into the account.”Â
“Alright!” Aurelia didn’t hold back. After all, she was waiting to invest this money into the quantitative training.Â
Just as the conversation was hitting its stride, right on cue, another visitor showed up at Gideon’s office.Â
It was Jasper.Â
And he didn’t come alone–he’d brought Tessa along.Â
Aurelia raised her eyebrows and subconsciously looked behind the two of them.Â
She expected to see Cassian.Â
After all, he and Tessa were always inseparable.Â
But to her surprise, Cassian was nowhere to be seen today.Â
“Gideon!” Tessa walked in with a bright smile, but her expression faltered for a moment when she saw Aurelia.Â
But she quickly got herself together and completely ignored Aurelia’s presence, focusing all her attention onÂ

Gideon. “Hope we’re not interrupting your work?”Â
“Not at all.”Â
Jasper standing nearby, wasn’t so good at hiding things.Â
The second he laid eyes on Aurelia, his face soured instantly.Â
He immediately went on the offensive. “Why are you everywhere?”Â
Aurelia answered, totally unfazed, “Funny, I was just about to ask you the same thing.”Â
Her tone was mild, not a hint of hostility in her voice.Â

But to Jasper, it was like her words stabbed him right where it hurt; he looked ready to explode. “Aurelia, don’t forget, Gold Gauntlet is a Quinn family business! I could kick you out in a heartbeat if I wanted to!”Â
Before Aurelia could respond, Gideon snapped, “What kind of nonsense is this?”Â
Jasper had never managed to hold his head up whenever Gideon was around.Â
Not that he ever stood a chance–he’d always been a waste of the family, totally lacking in any real ability.Â
And now that Gideon was the real power in the Quinns, Jasper naturally commanded some respect. After being scolded, all he could do was shrink back, pressing his lips and glaring at Aurelia in frustration.Â
He just thought she was a scheming woman, approaching Gideon with some hidden agenda.Â
Just like she did with Cassian back then.Â
Gideon said, “Aurelia is my guest. Who do you think you are, being so rude? Apologize!”Â
Jasper had no intention of apologizing to Aurelia; he had always looked down on her.Â
But Gideon held his ground, his tone leaving no room for argument.Â
Just as the atmosphere grew tense, Tessa spoke up in a peacemaking tone. “Gideon, Jasper didn’t mean any harm. You know his temper–he just likes joking around. He’s also familiar with Aurelia. She can handle a joke, right?”Â
After saying that, she didn’t forget to pull Aurelia in as a shield. “Isn’t that right, Aurelia?”Â
That was quite a clever trap she’d set.Â
If she made a fuss, it would make her seem petty.Â
If she let it slide, she would have to swallow her resentment.Â
But Tessa had underestimated Aurelia.Â
Because Aurelia decided to go with a third option.Â
Â
She decided to repay her in kind.Â

Grinning, Aurelia glanced at Jasper, “Why would I take it to heart? I mean, you’re not really a Quinn, right? Weren’t you a Locke before, now suddenly a Rowe? Switching sides so much–how did he end up being a servant to three families?”Â
“Aurelia!” Jasper blew up, his face practically twitching. “Are you roasting me right now?”Â
Aurelia mimicked Tessa’s carlier tone and replied to him, “It was just a joke. You can handle a joke, right?”Â
