Chapter 67 

After finishing his conversation with Tessa, Nolan finally turned to Aurelia and asked about the purpose of her 

visit. 

Aurelia finally got her chance to speak, and of course, she did her utmost to seize the opportunity. 

When Nolan realized Aurelia was also after the database, he frowned. “This is kind of awkward. I’ve already promised it to Ms. Rowe.” 

Aurelia couldn’t help but feel anxious. “Mr. Flynn, we really need Eastview’s backing right now. You believed in our product before, didn’t you? Now it’s finally ready–we’re just one step away. I really hope you’ll lend us a hand.” 

She took the initiative to pour wine for Nolan and propose a toast. 

She was trying hard to get the chance. 

But someone ruined the fun. 

Tessa grinned and joked, “I’ve always heard Aurelia could really hold her liquor, and now seeing her knock back half a bottle of wine like it’s nothing—I have to admit, the reputation is definitely deserved. So, Aurelia, what’s your secret? Mind sharing your tips?” 

Before Aurelia could say a word, Cassian cut in, sounding doting. “Why bother learning to drink? You don’t need to know how at all.” 

Tessa felt a sweet rush inside, but she rolled her eyes with a playful pout. “You won’t always be right next to me, will you? There are times I have to hold my own. So, it’s always good to learn something.” 

“Besides, you can’t handle your liquor any better than I can. If I get better at this, maybe I can help you out next time,” she added. 

She was just so gentle and caring. 

No wonder Cassian stood no chance against her. 

If Aurelia were a guy, even she wouldn’t be able to resist Tessa’s charms. 

Aurelia wasn’t shaken by the sweet little scene going on. She just kept on, pushing even harder to impress 

Nolan. 

She wasn’t Tessa, after all. 

She didn’t have any big shot supporters, no family influence, nobody to have her back. 

She had to fight for everything she wanted on her own. 

Actually, Nolan was a bit swayed, but he had already promised Tessa, so he couldn’t very well go back on his word, could he.

Plus, with Eastview and Honoria Capital being strategic partners, some resources were basically theirs by default. That’s just how these business deals worked. 

So he shot Aurelia an apologetic look, ready to turn her down as gently as he could. 

When Aurelia caught the look on Nolan’s face, her heart sank. 

‘Is this really it? Am I about to leave here with nothing but regret?‘ she thought. 

Right as Nolan was about to say something, Cassian suddenly threw out an offhand question, “I heard Gold Gauntlet invested in your project?” 

The question came totally out of left field–Aurelia was so caught off guard that she almost didn’t know how 

to react. 

But the second Nolan heard the words “Gold Gauntlet,” his expression froze. 

Cassian snorted, a hint of mockery in his voice. “So you actually managed to cozy up to Gideon, huh? Guess I really did underestimate you.” 

Tessa snorted as well, giving Aurelia a disdain look. 

It was as if she thought Aurelia must’ve used some under–the–table moves to score that investment from Gold Gauntlet. 

Aurelia swallowed her anger, refusing to let it show. 

After all, this wasn’t the right moment. 

Controlling emotions properly was an important rule for surviving in the workplace. 

So she steadied herself, ready to try her luck with Nolan again. 

But then, out of the blue, Nolan shifted gears. “Actually, there’s another solution–maybe we can carve out a portion of Ms. Rowe’s database resources and let you have access to that.” 

Tessa’s expression soured, clearly displeased with Nolan’s last–minute change of plan. 

Nolan quickly tried to calm her, “But please don’t worry, Ms. Rowe. Eastview’s database is extensive–even if Ms. Corin gets a share, it won’t affect your access in the slightest. So, you don’t have to worry.” 

Tessa was about to chime in when Cassian spoke up first. “Go ahead and split it–our algorithm engineers are top of the line. This kind of challenge is nothing to them, and it’ll only show off what they can do!” 

With Cassian backing her up like that, Tessa loosened up instantly. “I have no objections, Mr. Flynn.” 

“Then it’s a deal!” Nolan was delighted with the outcome and, feeling cheerful, took the initiative to propose a toast to everyone. 

Aurelia was caught between hope and anxiety.

But still, she couldn’t shake the worry about whether the little slice of resources Nolan offered really going to be enough to get their algorithm up and running. 

After the dinner wrapped up, Aurelia stepped out of the restaurant and immediately called Tyson, eager to fill him in on the situation in Northvale. 

Tyson had been waiting for her call. 

He picked up almost instantly–so fast that Aurelia was caught off guard. 

Before she could say anything, Tyson sounded worried, jumping in to reassure her. “If the partnership works, awesome. If not, I’ll think up another way. Don’t stress yourself out, okay?” 

He sounded guilty next, rushing to add, “I shouldn’t have let you head out there alone. Maybe I should just fly over–I’ll check for a ticket right now…” 

Aurelia jumped in. “No need. I’ve already got things sorted here.” 

“Wait, you’re done?” Tyson sounded honestly surprised. 

He couldn’t help noticing how flat Aurelia’s voice was–there wasn’t much excitement in it at all. 

Aurelia told him what really went down. 

“Don’t worry about it! I’ve got this. Trust me–these resources in my hands will do more than you could ever expect,” Tyson said, full of confidence. 

With those words, Aurelia finally felt a weight lift off her chest. This trip wasn’t a waste after all. 

“So, when do you think you’ll be coming back?” Tyson asked, clearly concerned. 

Honestly, he cared way more about Aurelia herself than about any work stuff. 

“I had a bit to drink at the dinner, so it’s not suitable for me to head back now. I’ll probably return tomorrow.” Aurelia replied. 

“Drinking again?” Tyson said, frowning with concern. 

“It’s just business–I can’t really help it,” Aurelia replied, keeping her tone light. 

“How’s your stomach? Any discomfort?” Tyson asked. 

“It’s fine. I was prepared for it, and I didn’t drink much.” Aurelia reassured him. 

Tyson still felt a bit uneasy. “Did you get your hotel sorted? Seriously, don’t try to save a few bucks–pick a place that’s safe and has decent service. Maybe ask the front desk for something to help with the hangover.” 

Aurelia interrupted, “Relax, I’m totally fine. I’m not drunk. I’ll be staying at a friend’s place later.”

Tyson naminded her a couple more times before hanging up the phone, 

Just as Aurelia was about to hang up, she heard Tessa’s voice coming from behind her. 

Tessa spoke in a careful, low tone, like she was trying not to intrude but still wanted Aurelia to notice her 

presence, 

Her words were soft, but it was obvious she intended Aurelia to hear everything she said. 

“Looks like she’s talking to someone really close to her. Let’s not disturb her.” 

Even though Tyson had already hung up, Aurelia kept talking into the phone, pretending she was still on the call–just to stall for a little more time. 

Honestly, she was just hoping they’d leave her alone and not come over to bother her. 

Sure enough, neither of them came over–just hopped in their car and left together, exactly how she wanted. 

They were probably heading back to the hotel at this hour. 

Aurelia didn’t dwell on it and just gave Mia a call. 

Mia’s assistant answered, explaining Mia was busy shooting a late–night scene and might not be home anytime soon. She told Aurelia to just go to her place to sleep and not wait for her. 

After a moment’s thought, Aurelia asked the assistant where the filming was taking place. 

Once she got the address, Aurelia hopped in a cab and headed straight for the set. 

Mia had just gotten cast as the third female lead in a crime thriller. 

She was playing a policewoman, and the role was packed with fight scenes. 

When Aurelia got to the set, Mia was right in the middle of filming a dramatic dive. 

From a ten–meter–high diving platform, Mia jumped without hesitation, leaving Aurelia watching in fright. 

And to make it worse, Mia even had a mild fear of heights. 

From below, Aurelia broke into a cold sweat and asked the assistant why Mia had taken on such a tough scene. 

The assistant replied, “Because the pay is high.” 

Aurelia suddenly felt a stab of pain in her chest, her nose stinging and her eyes prickling with tears she barely held back. 

Because she knew that Mia was pushing herself so hard for her sake.
