Julian then came back to his senses a bit and quickly tried to explain.“Grace, I just want to understand why they suddenly moved. Just give me some
time…”
Grace completely lost it. She slapped him, her eyes red with fury.“You’re the one who said you liked me for eight years, and now you’re the one trying to run away from our wedding! You said you only saw Shelly as a friend, yet you’ve slept with her for so many years! Julian, do you ever tell the truth?!”
In an instant, everyone went quiet. Mr. and Mrs. Blake stared at their son in disbelief. Grace’s father, who was standing nearby, turned red with rage. He slapped Julian hard across the face and then left with his daughter. This time, no one tried to stop them.
Julian fell to the ground, his face swollen, dizzy, and his lip bleeding. But he didn’t seem to feel any pain. He just stared blankly at the backs of the Blakes as they left. He didn’t say a single word to ask them to stay until they had completely disappeared.
Was it that he couldn’t speak, or didn’t want to? He didn’t even know himself.
This mating ceremony ended before it even had a chance to begin. That evening, the Blakes returned all the gifts and announced that the two families were cutting ties.
The Blake family’s living room was still decorated, but it was completely silent. Julian sat alone on the sofa, staring blankly at the dark villa outside the window.
Many memories flashed through his mind, all about Shelly, without exception. When they were five or six, they held hands and swung on the garden swing. In their early teens, he posed for her as she drew his picture. After they became adults, there were countless kisses and hugs. They had been best friends for eighteen years, and then, in one night, they became the closest of lovers.
Lovers. What an old–fashioned word. But Julian could only use that word to describe the last five years. She wasn’t his girlfriend, but everything they did together went way beyond friendship. The words of “liking” and “love” he had casually said in bed to make her happy had, without him even knowing it, become a part of his soul.
When he told a lie too many times, he slowly started to believe it himself. He just hadn’t noticed it until now. But were they really lies?
The Moon Goddess had bound them with a mate bond, which meant they were fated mates. Could the Goddess’s choice be wrong?
It wasn’t until he completely lost her that Julian finally understood his own heart. He did love Grace. But in the years she had been gone, that love had slowly turned into an obsession. The obsession with a wish that never came true had blinded him, making him believe he had been loyal. But subtly, over time, he had actually developed feelings for Shelly.
That’s why seeing her slowly pull away had made him angry and upset. Hearing her admit her feelings had made his heart waver. And knowing she had left had made him frantic and helpless.
Losing Shelly forever was more unbearable to Julian than not having Grace. If he had to choose between the two, he would only have one answer. He wanted Shelly to stay by his side. If he had to have a partner, his partner could only be Shelly. His heir was also had to be born to him by Shelly.
He couldn’t imagine what his life would be like without her. There would be good wine to drink, but no one to share it with, new ideas but no one to connect with, and many words repeated hundreds of times, but no one would understand. The only person who truly understood him was thousands of miles away, and he had lost contact with her. Just thinking about it sent a chill down his spine, making his wolf body shiver.
So, when he heard that the Blakes wanted to break off the engagement, his first reaction was actually a sense of relief.
Mr. and Mrs. Blake were still in shock and stared at him for a long time before finally getting the courage to ask. “Grace said that you and Shelly….”
With a secret that had been hidden for so long suddenly out in the open, Julian didn’t know how to face his parents. After a long silence, he simply nodded, giving them his answer.
His parents took a deep breath, and their gaze became incredibly complicated. “When did this happen? Why didn’t you say something sooner? If you two were together, why did you agree to be partners with Grace? Is Shelly moving away because of you?
How could you be so thoughtless! We’ve had a decades–long friendship with the Rosses. If you two truly loved each other, wouldn’t we have supported you? How could you do this to Shelly? How can you face your Mr. and Mrs. Ross?”
A Beta is an Alpha’s most capable assistant Without a Beta, an Alpha cannot succeed. And without an Alpha, a Beta is just an ordinary werewolf Their relationship is more than just a simple one of command and obedience; they are partners. Throughout the history of the pack, the number of Alphas who were overthrown by Betas was not small That’s why many Alphas today are especially close to their Beras
But Julian’s actions were attogam and disrespectful, humdiating Shelly. This wasn’t just a problem between the Ross and Blake famdies, it was problem within the Stormfall Pack, between their Alpha family and the many Beta families!
Julian’s mind was a mess, and he didn’t know how to answer. The room fell silent again. After a while, he finally thought it through and took the

initiative to state his position.“This whole thing, from beginning to end, is my fault. I’ll go to Spain tomorrow and apologize to Shelly.”
Mr. and Mrs. Blake sighed heavily, their voices full of helplessness. “You messed up so badly. Shelly must have been completely heartbroken to leave. The Rosses probably don’t know about this yet. What good will it do if you go alone? We’ll go with you and apologize to them sincerely!”
