In the month since they arrived in Spain, the Ross family had finished all the paperwork and moved into their new home. They had been busy for almost two months, and the whole family was exhausted. So, once everything was settled, the three of them planned a beach vacation.
It was a beautiful autumn day, and Shelly lay on a beach chair, watching the waves roll in and out. Her mood slowly became peaceful. She opened her phone and was met with a flood of messages.
“Major gossip! Shelly, I heard Julian and Grace’s mating ceremony was a bust, ha!”
“You weren’t there to see Grace’s twisted face. And Julian even got slapped twice. What a shame you missed it!”
“I told you shotgun marriages don’t last, aha. They broke up on their wedding day. It’s so funny!”
She scrolled through the messages; they were all like that. Shelly just felt bored. She put her phone down, and Mrs. Ross sat beside her with two glasses of juice. She gave one to Shelly, her voice light and happy.“You’ve been sitting here for half the day without moving. Are you here for a vacation or what?”
Shelly took a sip, her voice lazy.“Why not? Sitting here watching beautiful women and handsome men is a great way to relax.”
Mrs. Ross agreed. The two of them chatted a little more, and when Mrs. Ross couldn’t convince her daughter to go into the water, she threw her phone on the chair and went by herself.
Shelly raised her hand to adjust her hat, just about to put on more sunscreen, when Mrs. Ross’s phone rang. She saw it was Mrs. Blake, hesitated for a few seconds, then answered.
“Hey, we’re in Madrid. Are you home?”
Madrid?
We?
Shelly’s eyes narrowed. Her wolf’s intuition told her something bad was about to happen. But since it was an elder, she politely asked, “Mrs. Blake, why did you come to Spain? We’re in Barcelona right now.”
Hearing it was Shelly, Mrs. Blake’s tone immediately softened and became apologetic.“Oh, it’s Shelly. Where are you in Barcelona? Can you send your location? We’ll come find you; there are some things we need to talk about.”
Her words were vague, but Shelly knew they were connected to Julian and Grace’s broken engagement. Her wolf instinct told her this was probably about her. After a few seconds of thought, she replied, “Is something wrong?”
There were a few seconds of silence on the other end, and then Shelly heard a familiar deep voice. “It’s me. Grace and I broke off our engagement. My parents know about us, too, and they want to talk to you and your parents and apologize.”
Apologize? Hearing that word from Julian’s mouth, Shelly just found it absurd. An Alpha apologizing to a Beta? He might have the nerve to say it, but she wouldn’t be foolish enough to believe it!
“No need.”
Those two words completely silenced Julian. Listening to his now heavy breathing, Shelly was merciless. She spoke in a cold voice. “Whatever happened between you and me ended a month ago. From now on, we have no business with each other. Tell your parents that I don’t want to discuss this, and I don’t need their apologies. In my heart, they will always be my most respected Alpha and Luna, and that will never change because of anything. including you.”
Her words pierced Julian’s heart like a sharp knife, causing him endless pain. Cotton was silent, filled with jealousy, but Julian could feel his wolf’s sadness and pain. He knew better than anyone that he was the one who had caused all this. He couldn’t blame anyone; he had to face the consequences
And now, he couldn’t say another mean word. He could only lower his pride and beg her, like an Omega. “Shelly, please don’t be mad. There are some things I can explain. Can you please give me another chance?‘
Hearing his humble tone for the first time, Shelly was a little taken aback. But she didn’t know what kind of act Julian was putting on, and she didn’t want to play along. She told him directly, “There’s nothing more for me to talk about with you. Just tell Mr. and Mrs. Blake that we won’t be in contact anymore, and then go home.”
