After two days, I arrived at the Ashen Pack lands on time.
I handled my work as usual, notifying Ethan of an upcoming Pack meeting.
Approaching his office, I saw Isabelle through the slightly ajar door.
She was sitting in Ethan’s lap, feeding him half of her cake.
The Alpha, known for his fastidiousness, smiled and ate it, affectionately kissing her fingers, his tone gentle.
“You were craving this treat yesterday, so I waited in line for three hours this morning to get it for you. How is it?”
“It’s delicious, just as sweet and not too rich as before. You used to bring it for me often, but now that you’re the Lycan Chairman, why do you still go yourself? Just ask a Beta to do it.”
Ethan gently rubbed her ankle, his eyes brimming with affection.“Anything related to you, I want to do it myself, I don’t want to delegate it to anyone.”
A sweet smile appeared on Isabelle’s face, she took the initiative to hug him and kissed him.
He embraced her back, deepening the kiss, lost in it. His wolf seemed to have surrendered to her.
Seeing this, my breath hitched, a pang of bitterness spreading through my chest. My wolf felt the sting of rejection as if it were a physical wound.
I clenched my fists tightly, my knuckles white, my palms bloody.
Time ticked by, the meeting was about to begin.
I calmed myself, and knocked on the door.
“Alpha Ethan, the meeting is about to start.”
Hearing my voice, Ethan paused slightly, about to get up, but Isabelle pulled him back.
“I don’t want you to leave, stay with me a little longer.”
Seeing her act cute, Ethan’s heart melted.
“Postpone the meeting for two hours.”
This meeting was about a project crucial for the future development of the Pack, involving a collaboration with several major territories.
I knew its significance, and couldn’t help but remind him.
“The Alphas of Everhart Pack, Cavendish Kindred, and Lancaster Clan are all waiting in the meeting room…”
“Oh, Ethan, your Beta is so annoying, and so lacking in judgment!”
Hearing Isabelle’s complaint, Ethan’s expression also turned cold.
“I said, postpone it for two hours, nothing is more important than Isabelle!”
I felt a tightness in my chest, struggling to breathe. My wolf recoiled, hurt by his harsh words.
But in the end, I simply closed the door and turned away silently.

Everyone in the territories knew that Ethan was a workaholic.
No matter how busy his private affairs were, even if he had just undergone blood–letting, he would handle his work while sick.
But to postpone such an important meeting, risking offending the Alphas of other packs, just because of a few words of affection, was unprecedented.
He loved Isabelle that much?
I lowered my dull eyes, forcibly composing myself, and went into the meeting room to apologize to those Alphas.
The Gabriel family was powerful. Although the Alphas had objections, they dared not criticize Ethan, so they vented their anger on me.
I dared not retort, only bowing my head and taking their scolding.
After two grueling hours, Ethan finally arrived.
As I walked out of the meeting room, my legs numb, I was stopped by Isabelle.
“You’re Zoe Madison? Ethan said you make great brew. I see everyone in the territory looks tired, go and prepare herbal tea for everyone. Mine, chilled and unsweetened.”
I knew that Isabelle was acting imperious relying on Ethan’s favoritism, and dared not disobey, so I went to the break den.
It took me two hours to brew over 400 draughts of energizing herbs, carefully carrying them one by one.
But Isabelle had barely taken her first sip when her face changed, and she threw the cup at me.
The hard clay mug smashed into my forehead, creating
a gruesome
wound.
I groaned, my whole face crumpled in pain, clutching my wound and falling to the ground. Isabelle wasn’t finished. She picked up cup after cup of brew and kept throwing them at me. My body was bruised and battered, shards of ceramic creating cuts that bled. Brown brew soaked me, mingling with the scarlet drops of blood on the floor.
I was in excruciating pain, but could only curl up, protecting my head and heart.
The room was silent, no one dared to intervene, all watching Isabelle’s tantrum from afar.
Soon, the commotion attracted Ethan.
He saw the mess on the floor, and me lying there, his brows furrowed.
“What happened?”
Seeing him, Isabelle immediately put on a pitiful look.“Ethan, I asked your Beta to make me a brew, she must have put something in my drink, my stomach hurts so much now.”
Seeing her reddened eyes, Ethan’s face turned dark.
“You’ve been with me for four years, and you can’t even do this simple task right? Or do you have a problem with Isabelle, deliberately targeting her?”
I lifted my pale face, wanting to explain, but he didn’t give me a chance, directly calling an enforcer.
“Zoe Madison violated Pack regulations. You’re docked this moon’s wages and seasonal bounty, and will receive a territory–wide

reprimand, and give a public apology at next week’s gathering.”
With that, Ethan took off his cloak, hugged Isabelle and left. He was blinded.
