Chapter 6
The next morning, Shelly came downstairs to find Julian sitting on the sofa, a dark expression on his face.“Shelly!”

She could tell he was in a terrible mood. She had no intention of comforting him.“Oh, good morning.“”I’m about to go on a date with my mate, so I won’t entertain you. Please, make yourself at home.”
Julian’s anger flared. He stood up, grabbed her hand. His eyes were dark.“Where did you get a mate?”
Shelly didn’t answer. She showed no fear.
A Beta showing such a lack of respect was unforgivable. Shelly was challenging her Alpha’s dignity. But they had known each other too long. Even though Julian was furious, he didn’t think about punishing her.
Julian’s wolf instincts flared, and his anger burned hotter. He unconsciously tightened his grip.“Are you mute? Answer me!”
Shelly tried to pull her hand away. It was already red from his grip. Her tone was still icy.“What does it have to do with you? Aren’t you being too nosy?”
Just as the argument was about to escalate, Mrs. Ross came downstairs and quickly pulled them apart.“Oh, dear, don’t mind her. She’s just being difficult. She’s really busy right now. She’s not even looking for a mate. It’ll be a long time before she does. You two grew up together, can’t you just talk it out? No need to fight!”
With an elder present, they both reined in their tempers and sat down.
After Mrs. Ross left, Julian realized he had gone too far. He recalled what she had said. Too busy at this critical moment? What’s going on? Why wait to talk about it?
He had no idea. He looked at Shelly.“Were you just lying to me?”
Shelly glanced at him, sitting in the corner.“Do you need anything?”
He knew she was trying to provoke him. He sighed with relief and got to the point. “It was my birthday. Why didn’t you

come?”
Her cold demeanor infuriated him. His voice got louder, but he didn’t use his Alpha aura to suppress her.“What could be more important than my birthday? In previous years, you were always more excited than anyone to celebrate for me.”
Shelly took a sip of water. Her voice was calm.“Things are different now. You already have a mate. You should be saying that to Grace, not to an outsider like me.”
For some reason, the word “outsider” made Julian uncomfortable.
His wolf felt a pang of panic.
He crossed his legs and clasped his hands.“I don’t care. You have to come this year. Do you remember a few years ago, you promised me three wishes? One was for you to knit me a scarf, the second was to climb a snow peak with me. Both of those are done. Now I’m using my third wish: you
have to come to my birthday party.”
Shelly was silent. Her head was lowered. Julian was frustrated. His voice turned colder.“Have you forgotten why you agreed to those wishes?”
She remembered. Three years ago, they went to the beach. A high tide swept her out. Her leg cramped. Julian jumped in and rescued her, nearly drowning from exhaustion.
Shelly cried at his bedside, ready to end her own life if he didn’t wake up. When he woke, he gently wiped her tears away.“Why are you crying so hard? Is this my funeral?”
“Shut up! I thought you were dead because of me!”
Shelly was so angry that she punched him. He begged for mercy and comforted her.“Alright, alright. If you’re that worried, just grant me my three
wishes.”
Shelly remembered it all. The room was quiet. Phoebe softly called her name. Shelly finally answered. “Okay, After the third wish is granted…”
The phone rang. Julian looked at his phone, immediately forgetting Shelly’s words.
He answered the call excitedly, getting up and walking away.“Just say yes! You have to come tomorrow,”
Watching him leave, Shelly finished her sentence softly…you will never see me again.”
