When Irene showed up demanding that Davon and Miranda get kicked out of that house, Kayla was the one who convinced Bailee to buy the place and let them stay. Without her, those two would’ve been on the streets a long time ago. They had no business making fun of anyone.
Davon’s words today had given Kayla an idea. She’d need to talk to Bailee about taking that house back as soon as she got home, before those ungrateful jerks completely trashed it.
Payton suddenly looked up at Kayla, emotions churning in his eyes that he was barely keeping under control. ‘She doesn’t mind? She’s really okay with me?‘ he thought.
His hands clenched at his sides, then slowly relaxed. The corner of his mouth twitched into the faintest smile.
Davon stared at her in disbelief, his face turning red. “Kayla, I’ve been way too easy on you. That’s why you’re so out of control now, actually comparing him to me! Keep this up,and I won’t forgive you so easily,” he said through gritted teeth.
Kayla was about to snap back, but Payton beat her to it with a light scoff. “Wow, Davon, you really think you’re something special, don’t you? But I’m curious. How exactly have you been ‘easy‘ on Kayla? And now you’re acting like the victim?”
That shut Davon up completely. He had no comeback.
Kayla burst out laughing, her grin dripping with mockery. “Too easy on me? Right,‘ she thought. I’m the one who’s been putting up with his moods, his attitude, and his ridiculous demands. At least those days were over
now.
Davon couldn’t come up with a response, and the look he shot Payton got even darker. “Payton, you’re just trash that got kicked out of Class A. Stay in your lane and mind your own business. What gives you the right to get involved with me and Kayla?”
Kayla blinked in surprise. “Davon, stop making stuff up!”
“Wait, Payton got kicked out of Class A?‘ she thought. I thought he just transferred because his grades dropped. Is there more to this?‘
The other students looked confused too, all staring at Davon.
Davon let out a cold snort, his eyes sweeping over Payton with obvious contempt before landing on Kayla. “Oh, so you guys don’t know? Makes sense.
“Payton screwed someone over, hurt everyone including himself, and got booted from Class A to Class G. Of course he wouldn’t tell you the real reason. Right, Payton?”
Davon emphasized those last two words, his tone dripping with sarcasm and challenge.
Kayla glanced at Payton, but he looked completely calm. There wasn’t even a hint of guilt on his face, like Davon’s words couldn’t touch him.
Just then, the teacher pushed through the crowd, barking at everyone. “Class is starting. What are you all

One of the Class A students immediately launched into an exaggerated version of what happened, naturally making Kayla and Payton look like the bad guys.
“Teacher, these Class G students are terrible! Their grades suck, and they’re always causing trouble. Especially Kayla. Marianna’s already hurt, and she just keeps bullying her! You need to do something. They’re making us all late for class,” they said.
“Exactly! If they don’t want to study, fine, but they shouldn’t drag us down. Our time actually matters,” one student complained.
“We Class A students are working our butts off every minute, but look at them–just messing around all day causing problems.”
“Seriously, why does the school even put them in classes with us? They’re just dragging down our learning.”
“Right? Just seeing them pisses me off!”
As soon as those words came out, the Class G students lost it and started shouting back.
“What do you mean Class G’s causing trouble? So what if Class A has better grades? That doesn’t give you the right to look down on everyone else.”
“Yeah! All you do is study. What else are you good for? Bunch of nerds!”
“Don’t act so superior just because you ace some tests. You’ve got no social skills and no character. Wait till you’re out in the real world and see who actually succeeds!”
“You’re throwing accusations around without even knowing what happened! So what if you’re smart? You’ll probably screw people over left and right once you graduate.”
“High scores, low IQ!”
Instantly, both classes erupted into chaos, everyone yelling over each other.
The teacher’s head was pounding. She rubbed her forehead and shouted, “Enough! What kind of mess is this
Then she turned her attention to Kayla and Payton, the ones everyone was blaming. “Is what they’re saying
true?
Kayla shrugged, completely unbothered. “Wasn’t me. Maybe Marianna didn’t eat breakfast and can’t walk straight, or maybe she got beat up so bad she’s seeing double.
“The hallway’s huge, but she just had to slam into me and now she’s making stuff up. Honestly, sounds like someone heard my family’s got money and is trying to scam me.”
Her tone dripped with mockery.
The teacher’s face twitched. ‘Kayla never used to be this sharp–tongued. What happened to her? She’s like a

A flash of anger crossed Marianna’s eyes, but she quickly plastered on her wounded look. “Kayla, I already said you don’t need to apologize, but you won’t even admit you’re wrong! Now you’re accusing me in front of the teacher and even attacking Davon–you’ve crossed the line!”
Marianna was obviously putting on her innocent act, trying to flip the script and make Kayla the bad guy.
Kayla’s face twisted with contempt. “Seriously? You think your little performance is fooling anyone? You think you can just spin whatever story you want?”
Marianna’s lashes fluttered as she played innocent. “What do you mean?”
Kayla’s smirk widened as she let out a small snort. “Funny how you always picked spots without cameras when you tried to frame me before, huh?”
Kayla pointed at the security camera mounted in the hallway. “But I guess you slipped up today. Forgot this one was here. So did I hit you, or are you lying again? Let’s just check the footage and find out.”
‘Hailey really must’ve scrambled her brains when she beat her up, Kayla thought. ‘How else does someone mess up this badly? Seriously, how stupid was I in my past life to fall for Marianna’s tricks over and over?’
Everyone’s heads turned in the direction Kayla was pointing. Sure enough, there was a security camera mounted there, aimed directly at the entrance.
Davon stepped in front of Marianna protectively and snorted. “Fine, let’s watch it. I can’t wait to see you try to talk your way out of this once everyone sees the truth!”
Marianna’s heart lurched, and her eyes darted nervously. “Davon, Kayla’s the Sexton family heiress. We really can’t afford to cross her. Maybe we should just drop it. I’ll say it was my fault, that I wasn’t paying attention.”
But Davon didn’t pick up on her panic. He just shook his head firmly. “Marianna, you’re too nice. That’s why she keeps walking all over you. You’ve been targeted, bullied, even hospitalized, and we still don’t know who did it.
“Now we finally have proof. There’s no way we’re letting this go.”
