Kayla recognized him immediately. Sean Williams, Class A’s study committee member.Â
Sean’s grades ranked just below Davon’s. Every time Kayla used to visit Class A to see Davon, Sean would throw shade at her, calling her Davon’s pathetic groupie.Â
Kayla had gotten into a fight with him over it once, but Davon thought she’d embarrassed him. He’d blown up at her and given her the cold shoulder for weeks.Â
Right now, Davon stood right next to Sean, not saying a word against him. It was obvious he agreed with everything Sean said.Â
“Yeah, with grades like yours, how much better do you think you’ll get, no matter how hard you try? Maybe take a good hard look at yourself and face reality,” another guy chimed in, his voice dripping with scorn.Â
“Hah, Class G warriors? That’s the funniest joke I’ve heard all day! You’re just a bunch of losers. You really think you can compete with Class A? Keep dreaming!” someone else laughed.Â
“Anyone can talk big, but do you actually have what it takes? Don’t come crying when you lose!” a girl added with a nasty smirk, setting off waves of laughter from Class A.Â
Those mocking words hit Class G like a bucket of ice water, trying to kill the fire burning in their hearts.Â
But to everyone’s surprise, instead of getting discouraged or angry, the students of Class G only grew more determined.Â
Kayla scoffed and stepped forward. “Whether we are losers or not is not for you to decide,” she shot back, her voice cutting through the noise. “Class G will prove who the real joke is. Just watch us.”Â
Davon gave Kayla a long look and shook his head helplessly, like he was watching a stubborn kid who didn’t know any better.Â
“Kayla, quit it. How’s Class G supposed to compete with Class A? Every single one of the top fifty students in this school is in our class. Keep pushing this, and you’re just setting yourself up to get embarrassed,” Davon said.Â
Kayla hated how Davon always talked down to everyone like he was better than them. Still, she swallowed her disgust and said, “Yeah, your class is stronger overall right now. But we’re not comparing rankings. We’re comparing progress. Starting now until finals, whichever class improves the most wins.”Â
Before Kayla even finished, Marianna piped up in that soft, innocent voice of hers. “Kayla, isn’t that kind of unfair? Everyone in Class A is already at the top. There’s barely any room for us to improve.Â
“But you guys are at the bottom, so you’ve got tons of room to grow-”Â
Marianna quickly put on her best apologetic face, like she’d just accidentally said something wrong. “Oh, sorry! I didn’t mean your grades are bad. I just meant you’ve got a lot of room to improve, that’s all.”Â
Marianna’s fake apology only made the insult sting more. The rest of Class A immediately jumped in.Â

“Yeah, you Class G kids are so far behind, of course you can show progress. We’re already killing it. What’s left for us to improve?” one laughed.Â
“Class G knows they can’t win, so now they’re trying to cheat. So typical, always looking for shortcuts instead of playing fair,” another sneered.Â
“Right? Trash is trash. Don’t even think you’ll make a comeback.” A third shook their head.Â
Kayla narrowed her eyes. ‘Marianna’s doing this on purpose,‘ she thought.Â
Kayla’s lips twitched into a cold smile. “Marianna, wow, you really can’t wait, can you? You’re not even officiallyÂ
in Class A yet, and you’re already throwing Class G under the bus. Could you be any more obvious?”Â
Everyone in Class G shot Marianna icy looks, like she’d just stabbed them in the back.Â
