kayla’s voice rang out, slicing through Marlanna’s hypocrisy like a blade. “If he’s so weak, maybe he should be working on building some actual stamina. Everyone else got caught in the rain, and they’re fine, What’s his excuse? Is he even a man?”
She said it loud enough to make sure Davon, still hiding in the corner, heard every word.
Yeah, hear that loud and clear. A guy that weak better stay away from girls; she thought coldly
Getting exposed in public like this, Marianna looked like she’d been slapped. Her face turned red as tears welled up in her eyes, as if she’d been deeply wronged.
She cried, “He used to ride in your car all the time, didn’t het So why wouldn’t you let him yesterday? Don’t act like it wasn’t on purpose.
“You’re the Sexton family heiress, and it’s nothing, for you to offer a ride. But me? If I had the money, I wouldn’t even wait for him to ask. You’re just heartless”
Kayla’s cold smirk widened. She gave Marianna a slow nod and retorted, “Oh, I get it now. You’re poor, so that gives you moral high ground. I’m rich, so I’m automatically the villain.”
She took a step forward, her tone sharper than ever. “You care about Davon with your cheap words. You didn’t lose anything. Meanwhile, I’m the one with actual money, so you figure it’s my job to prove I have a soul, right?
“Just admit it. You don’t care about him. You just hate people who have what you don’t. You want to guilt–trip me into looking bad so you can play the selfless angel. Drop your act,
“What’s next? Mad you weren’t born with a trust fund? Wanna blame me for not having Elon Musk as your dad?”
Kayla remembered this tactic. It was the same thing, Marianna used to do in Kayla’s last life. Every time Marianna wanted something, she’d lean into her sob story, then guilt–trip Kayla into handing it over.
Kayla was too worried about what Davon might think of her, and she always gave Marianna whatever she
asked.
However, this time around, Kayla wasn’t playing nice. She wasn’t going to let herself get walked all over in the name of “empathy“.
Marianna’s face flushed deeper. She looked like she might cry but held it in just enough to seem pitiful without breaking down.
She retorted, “You’re twisting, my words. I was just trying to help my classmate. I never hate the rich. You’re the one laughing at my family background”
The humor vanished from Kayla’s expression, her tone turning icy. “Help your classmate, huh? Then why is it only Davon you’re crying, over? Plenty of people walked home yesterday and got sick. I didn’t see you fussing
over them”

She leaned in, her voice lower, but every word crystal clear. “Or is it because you like him? That’s it, right?
“Many people walked home yesterday, but no one else blamed me. Let’s be honest, if I’d turned down anyone else, you wouldn’t care. But because it was Davon, you came to blame me. You just want to guilt–trip me, huh?”
Kayla exposed what Marianna was thinking.
In this life, Kayla was no longer that weak, spineless girl who’d crumble at a few harsh words and spiral into self–blame, wondering what she’d done wrong.
She didn’t owe anyone kindness anymore, and Marianna could forget about guilt–tripping her.
Marianna had been stringing along half the boys in school, pretending to be sweet and pure, letting them orbit around her while keeping every one of them just out of reach.
Now, Kayla was determined to let everyone else see Marianna’s true colors. She’d like to see how long her act lasted once those guys realized she was not as innocent as she pretended to be.
