“If the company isn’t in my hands, who else is gonna run it? You mean a girl who’s been coddled her whole life? All she knows how to do is spend money and act pitiful. She’s completely useless.”
Kayla’s long lashes fluttered slightly as she lowered her eyes, concealing the cold glint beneath them.
Kayla sneered internally, ‘So Tristian looks down on women? Fine. I’ll show him exactly what kind of woman he’s dealing with. I’ll strip him of everything, until he’s buried deep and never crawls back out.
Bailee pressed her lips together, her eyes darting toward Jackson, who remained silent. She knew Tristian hadn’t lied, but still, her heart ached for Kayla.
Bailee gently adjusted the collar of Kayla’s shirt and gave her a sorrowful look. “Sweetheart, you and Tris are both my babies. Even if he inherits the company someday, I won’t let you suffer, I promise.”
As if to back up her words, Bailee pulled out her wallet and tucked a bank card into Kayla’s hand. “That classmate helped you out today. We can’t let them pay for everything. Use this to repay them. Keep the rest for yourself. Spend it however you
want.”
A flicker of delight passed through Kayla’s eyes.
She had access to Jackson’s unlimited black card. But every cent spent on that card was tracked, reviewed, and questioned. She never dared use it freely.
Yet this card from Bailee was hers alone. And it came at the perfect time, right when she needed untraceable money for what she had planned.
Kayla understood Bailee’s gesture. It wasn’t just about compassion–it was also a way to keep the peace. Kayla didn’t hesitate. She accepted it with a soft smile. “Thank you, Mom.”
But across the room, Tristian’s stare locked onto that card like a predator watching its prey. His eyes were dark, filled with resentment and venom.
He snapped, “Don’t let her fool you. That little scratch doesn’t need so much money. You’re just giving her more fuel to go out and do God knows what.
“Let’s be honest. If she hadn’t been out messing around tonight, she would’ve been home hours ago. She tried to ditch Ariel and sneak off.”
Kayla raised her eyebrows, a cold smile curling in her heart. She mused, ‘So someone told him something
But on the surface, her expression was full of hurt. She shook her head and explained, “That’s not true. I didn’t.”
Tristian let out a bitter chuckle. “Still playing innocent? Good thing I brought a witness.”
Before she could speak again, Tristian clapped his hands sharply, his eyes glittering with smug satisfaction.
A moment later, a middle–aged man stepped into the room. Kayla turned to look, and her brows lifted slightly. It was none
other than Ariel.
Tristian strode forward and clapped a hand on Ariel’s shoulder, his voice arrogant. “Go on, Ariel. Tell my parents everything you saw today. Don’t leave anything out.”
Ariel bowed respectfully to Jackson and Bailee before launching into his report. “Sir, ma’am. I picked up Kayla from school today just like always. But she came out much later than usual. I found it strange, but didn’t say anything.

“Later, I saw her walking out with a male classmate. They stayed together in the corner alley near the school entrance for quite a while before she came back out.”
He paused, then added with a hesitant frown, “When she returned, her clothes looked messy. I didn’t ask questions.
“But when I offered to take her home, she refused. Said she was going to Maple Avenue and told me not to follow.”
He glanced at Jackson, his voice turning more serious. “You know what kind of place that is. Full of bars, shady people. It’s not a place for a young girl to be wandering around at night.
“I tried to stop her. I told her it was dangerous and that I couldn’t explain it to you if something happened. But she was in a rush, like she had plans. She just ignored my words.”
Then, as if building up to the grand finale, Ariel’s tone turned indignant. “What shocked me the most was that she actually pulled a knife on me. She stabbed me and ran away.”
