Davon’s anger, which he had struggled to suppress, finally erupted. “Kayla, what’s that supposed to mean?
Kayla’s expression remained calm, but the sarcasm in her sneer became more evident. “It’s exactly what it sounds like. Don’t ever mooch a ride in my family’s car again. Waiting for you every time is annoying. You drag your feet like an old lady.”
Davon’s expression changed instantly, disbelief flooding, his eyes. “You’re actually saying I’m annoying?”
Kayla crossed her arms, leaning lazily against the back of the seat, giving him a sideways glance. “Why do you look so surprised? Do you think you’re some kind of prize? Why should I, the heiress of the Sexton family, cater to you?”
Kayla thought, ‘Davon’s just a poor, pathetic illegitimate child, I was such a fool in my old life, giving him so much credit, letting him push his luck and forget his place!
Davon furrowed his brows, his voice lowering as he snapped, “Kayla, what’s your problem? Don’t forget that it was you who begged me to ride in your family’s car. What gives you the right to back out now?”
“And what if I’ve changed my mind?” Kayla’s voice was cold as ice. “I only let you ride in my family’s car because we’ve known each other since we were kids. I felt sorry for you, but you couldn’t even appreciate it.
“You didn’t know your place, making me, the heiress of the Sexton family, wait for you. So tell me, why should I put up with you?”
Davon’s eyes widened in shock. He hadn’t expected Kayla, who had always been so eager to please him, to suddenly turn on him like this.
He thought, ‘Kayla used to love me so much. How could she change all of a sudden? What exactly went wrong?‘
A crowd of students had gathered around, all staring and gossiping about Davon. Seeing that, he clenched his hands into fists by his sides.
Davon struggled to keep his anger in check and said, “Kayla, stop making a scene. I can tolerate a little temper, but don’t go too far.
“It’s getting late. Open the door and let me in the car. Otherwise, I really will get angry, and it won’t be so easy to calm me down next time.”
Kayla couldn’t help but laugh at his words, her smile full of mockery and disdain.
It had always been like this before. Whenever Kayla didn’t meet Davon’s expectations, he would threaten her like this. At the time, Kayla had loved Davon deeply, and naturally, she didn’t want him to be upset.
But now, after crossing time and seeing what kind of person Davon really was, Kayla knew that they were enemies to the end. There was no way she would ever put him on a pedestal again.
Kayla looked up at him with a half–smile, her eyes filled with contempt. “Go ahead and get mad. I’ve already been paying for your living expenses. What, now I have to care about whether you’re angry or not?”

She thought. Honestly, it would be great if he just dropped dead from rage. Save me the trouble of dealing with him myself.
Kayla started to roll up the window, but Davon quickly reached out and stopped it. Lowering his voice, he growled, “Kayla, I don’t know what’s got into you today, but have you forgotten the fact that I saved you?
You promised you would repay me for life. Have you really forgotten so quickly? Are you really going to break your word and be an ungrateful traitor?”
Kayla lowered her gaze slightly, a mocking smile curving on her lips.
Of course, she hadn’t forgotten. After graduating from middle school, she had been cornered by some thugs in an alley. When they tried to assault her, it was Davon who just happened to show up and saved her.
That was why, after that incident, Kayla had begged her father to help Davon and his mother. From then on, she gave Davon everything he asked for, treating him better and better. But now, the whole thing felt deeply
ironic.
Kayla said, “Davon, didn’t you say back then that you would never use saving me as a bargaining chip? How quickly you’ve forgotten. Or was that your plan all along–to rescue me just to get a reward from the Sexton family?”
She threw Davon’s own words right back at him. Back when Davon had saved her, Kayla had been incredibly grateful and promised that the Sexton family would repay him.
At the time, Davon had said it was just a coincidence and that he would have saved anyone in that situation. He told Kayla not to worry about it, and that he would never seek repayment.
It was precisely those words that made Kayla admire Davon even more. She fell for him completely, willing to give him everything she had.
But now, the very same Davon, who had sworn not to seek repayment, was bringing up the past simply because Kayla wouldn’t let him ride in her car.
Davon was doing exactly what he promised he never would–using a past favor to demand something in
return.
Davon’s thick eyelashes fluttered. Kayla’s words had clearly caught him off guard, leaving him momentarily speechless.
The students around them noticed Davon still standing outside the car, unable to get in. They immediately began whispering among themselves.
“Isn’t Davon the heir of the Ortiz family? How can he not get into his own car?”
Is that his car? Why is Kayla sitting in it?”
‘I heard Kayla’s just hitching a ride with Davon. But how dare she lock the owner of the car out? Has Kayla lost her mind?”
“But isn’t Kayla the Sexton family heiress? Why does she need to hitch a ride? If it’s the Ortiz family’s car, why

westld Duren need Kayla’s permission to get in? Could it be that this car belongs to the Sexton family?”
“But ist) Davon supposed to be a rich heir? Why is he hitching a ride with Kayla? Could his wealthy background be a lie?”
Wait, really? Is Davon pretending to be rich? And someone mentioned today that he’s actually just his father’s illegitimate son. Is that true?”
legitimate son? That’s disgusting.
As Davon listened to the gossip, his expression grew grimmer.
Kayla didn’t want to argue any longer. She slapped his hand away forcefully, rolled up the window, and coldly ordered the driver. “Ariel, drive.
Ariel hesitated before replying, “Ms. Sexton, Mr. Ortiz is already here. So many people are watching. Maybe it’s better to let him in.
Kayla’s expression hardened immediately. “Ariel, I got a bad temper. I won’t repeat myself a third time.”
Ariel noticed the displeasure in Kayla’s voice and found it strange. She had never acted like this with Davon before. Ariel couldn’t understand why she was so upset today.
Ariel spoke. “Ms. Sexton. is there some misunderstanding between you and Mr. Ortiz? It might be better to clear things up. You don’t wanna hurt his feelings, right? And if Mr. Ortiz really gets angry, it won’t be easy for you to win him back.”
With that. Ariel unlocked the car door, smiling at Davon, “Mr. Ortiz, it’s getting late. Please, get in.”
Davon’s furrowed brows relaxed slightly. He assumed Kayla had finally come to her senses. He straightened his collar and, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, slowly pulled the car door open.
He said smugly, “I thought you could keep this up longer. You can’t hold out anymore, huh? Let me tell you, I’m really pissed today. Even if you beg me, I won’t forgive you that easily.”
Davon thought, ‘It seems I’ve been too soft on Kayla lately. That’s why she dared to make a scene like this today.
However, just as Davon was about to get in the car, Kayla suddenly kicked him hard, sending him tumbling right back out.
Davon crashed to the ground with a thud, and the surrounding students burst into laughter. He felt a sharp heat rise in his face, as if he’d been slapped in front of everyone. It was incredibly humiliating for him.
