Kayla flexed her fingers with a mocking smile. “Well, you asked for it, didn’t you? I’m just giving you what you wanted. Don’t bother thanking me.
“Oh, and I’d love to see exactly what you think you can do to keep me out of this school.”
Davon’s throat tightened. He couldn’t get a single word out.
If it were Payton, an outcast with no family connections, a rotten reputation, and grades to match, Davon could have marched straight to the teachers, reported the fight, and seen him expelled without much effort.
But Kayla was the Sexton family’s daughter. Forcing her out was well beyond his reach.
His hand shook as he jabbed a finger at Payton, rage making his whole body tremble.
Hailey, furious at seeing Davon struck, rounded on Kayla, her shrill voice cutting through the air like broken glass. “Kayla, what are you so smug about? You think a few slick words can cover up whatever mess you’ve got going on with Payton? Dream on.
“You claim you’re innocent? Unless you can prove it, I’ll make sure both of you, the parasites poisoning this school, are kicked out for good.”
At that, a spark lit up in Davon’s eyes.
He might not have the power, but Hailey could help.
His humiliation faded in an instant, replaced by smug satisfaction as he shot Kayla a taunting look, his face twisted with
scorn.
Kayla’s lips quirked in a cold, private smile. She thought, ‘Celebrating already? They really think it’ll be that easy?‘
“You want me gone? I’m afraid you won’t even get the chance,” she said, her tone laced with ice.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Marianna demanded, unease creeping into her voice.
Kayla met her eyes with a calm, almost amused expression. “You don’t believe me? Fine. But you’ll believe the police investigation, won’t you? I’ve already reported it. I trust the police will clear my name and show everyone the truth.”
Her gaze swept across Davon, Hailey, Marianna, and several others in the crowd. Her smile was razor–sharp. “And for those of you who slandered me and insulted me, I’ve taken note.
“When the truth comes out, I expect you to apologize publicly to Payton and me. Otherwise… I’ll see you in court.”
The crowd faltered, faces shifting uneasily.
Students who had been the loudest a moment ago now glanced at one another nervously, guilt flickering in their eyes.
They thought, ‘She really called the police? Then maybe those posts online were fake?‘
But it was those very photos and recordings online that had fueled their suspicions in the first place.
One voice piped up in defiance, “You can’t pin this on us, Kayla. We didn’t start it. The photos and recordings online are what made us believe it. We were just watching. Why should we be the ones to blame?”
Kayla’s eyes hardened as she cut them down with a look. “Don’t play the victim. If you hadn’t jumped on the bandwagon

withou thinking, no one could’ve used you as pawne
Her attention shifted to Marianna. The smile that spread across her face was slow and deliberate. As for the person who posted those photos, who doctored recordings and smeared my name with slander, I trust the police will uncover that too And when they do, whoever spread those lies will pay
Her words landed like blows, each syllable sharp enough to cut. Marianna stumbled back two steps in fright, nearly falling.
Her face had drained of all color, terror widening her eyes.
Maria, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Davon caught her arm, lowering his voice in concern.
Marianna shook her head quickly, flustered. “N–No, I’m fine. Just… tired.”
Hailey, on the other hand, lifted her chin high, utterly unshaken. If anything, she looked invigorated. “Maria, don’t let her scare you. She’s bluffing.
