A thick stack of documents hit the desk with a heavy thud.

Yunice exhaled sharply, pressing her fingers against her temples before sinking into her chair.
In the five years since its founding, Saunderss Hospital had expanded beyond what its aging campus could hold. Patient numbers grew by the day, and space was no longer enough.
A year ago she’d begun planning for expansion. Wyatt had secured the permits, and the project had gone to bid.
Naturally, Wyatt insisted on keeping it “in the family,” throwing the full weight of Cooper Corp behind the tender and winning the contract outright.
Thanks to that bid, he now found excuses to call her ten times a day under the guise of “coordination.” Maddening.
And right on cue–just as she finished one urgent matter and took a breath–her phone buzzed with his video call.
In a private room of a luxury restaurant, chandeliers glittered overhead.
Wyatt sat sharp in his tailored suit, a fresh contract waiting unsigned before him. He didn’t glance at it.
“Your daughter was furious today,” he confessed into the phone. “Said her mom only cares about work. I tried for two hours to calm her down and failed.”
On the other end, Yunice drew a heavy breath. “Wyatt. Since lunch, I’ve only been gone hours. Is Mindy really that clingy–or is Mr. Wyatt the clingy one?”

“Fine. It’s me. I missed you,” he said, lips quirking, ignoring the three department managers standing by with papers in hand.
Yunice, unaware of his audience, signed her own stack of documents. “Every time you claim it’s about Mindy, but the camera always points at you.”
“Mindy’s with Jordan in class,” Wyatt admitted. “She’ll want you the moment she’s out.”
Yunice frowned, checking the time. “I’ve got surgery this afternoon. I probably can’t take her
call.”
“I’ll-” Wyatt began, only to be cut off by a syrupy voice.
“Mr. Wyatt, what a surprise to meet you here.”
Wanda stood at his table in a clinging red dress, perfume so heavy it could choke a horse. A representative from Lindt Corp, she’d been orchestrating “coincidences” for weeks, angling for
his attention.
Wyatt’s brow furrowed. Into the phone he murmured, “Hold on–someone’s interrupting.”
But instead of hanging up, he set the phone on the table deliberately and leveled a cold stare at her. “Do you not understand that entering a private space requires consent?”
Wanda feigned ignorance, sliding into a chair across from him. “Sir, about our proposal–I think we should talk further.”
She leaned forward, neckline plunging.
“I don’t see the need,” Wyatt said flatly. “Your manager’s conduct already disqualified you.”
“Oh, business is like romance,” Wanda purred. “You only think poorly of me because you don’t know me yet. Once you do, you’ll savor how delightful I can be.” Her fingernails tapped the table suggestively. “Men like you–so successful–shouldn’t you indulge a little to match your brilliance?”
On the other end, Yunice’s eyes chilled. It wasn’t the first woman to angle for Wyatt, but it was the first time she’d heard one in real time.
Ever since their divorce, Wyatt’s golden bachelor status had turned him into prey. Men and women alike swarmed him, hoping to occupy the void Yunice had left.
Wanda smiled, lowering her voice. “I just admire your power… and your charm.”
She reached toward his hand.
And then came Yunice’s voice, low and cutting, through the speaker: “Wyatt, if you won’t slap her, should I come do it myself?”
Wanda jolted, finally realizing the phone call was still live.
Wyatt arched a brow, satisfied. At last he raised his gaze, his eyes like blades. “Wanda, did you hear that? I already have someone. And as of now, Cooper Corp will never work with Lindt Corp again. Don’t appear before me again.”
Wanda’s face stiffened. She grabbed her bag, forcing a smile. “But Mr. Wyatt, aren’t you

divorced? Then the woman on the phone-”
She tried to probe, to see if this was some new lover.

Wyatt ignored her completely, turning back to his phone, his voice softening. “Don’t be mad. From now on, no more meetings with female clients. That’s my rule.”
Yunice snorted. “Don’t pin me with that kind of reputation. But since you’re a free man, you should enjoy life.”
Wyatt chuckled. “Really angry? Then I’ll reflect on my mistakes.”
“Just don’t come to my house to reflect,” Yunice shot back.
