Yunice lifted her head, laughter brimming at her eyes. She slipped her hand free from Wyatt’s tight grip and patted his arm lightly. Smiling at Victor, she said, “Victor, stop teasing him. Can’t you see he’s so tense he nearly crushed my hand?”
She had torn the veil of pretense wide open.
Victor burst out laughing, then realized his slip and dabbed at the water splashed on his face with a tissue. Composing himself, he said seriously, “Mr. Wyatt, I thought after all these years, now that you’re a father, you’d have grown more mature and steady. Clearly, I was mistaken. You’re still just as small–minded. Don’t get me wrong – I have no designs on Yunice now. But even if I did, do you really think she would accept me? You don’t trust Yunice nearly enough.”
That counterattack pinned Wyatt in place.
He froze for a moment, his mind racing, then quickly turned to Yunice. “Honey, that’s not what I meant. Don’t let him provoke you.”
But Yunice only pretended to reflect, her tone slow and deliberate. “Victor, I think you have a point. To love someone is not to doubt them, and to doubt someone is not to love them. Mr. Wyatt’s suspicious nature really does put me in a difficult spot.”
At that, Mindy raised her head quietly. “Don’t bully my dad. My mom is so pretty, lots of people chase after her. My dad doesn’t feel safe.”
Hearing his name from her lips, Victor reached over and patted her head, his eyes soft with affection. “Alright, alright, I won’t tease your mom and dad anymore. I really do have serious business today.”
Serious business?
Yunice and Wyatt looked at him together.
“I’m getting married. I hope you and your parents can come to my wedding.” With that, Victor pulled a bright red invitation from his pocket. “July 7th. Don’t be late.”
At those words, both Yunice and Wyatt spilled their tea.
Yunice’s face was filled with shock, Wyatt’s with joy. Their voices overlapped, though their tones couldn’t have been more different. “You’re getting married? Really?”
Victor nodded. “Really.”

He turned and gazed tenderly at Candy. “We fell in love at first sight. Our families have been urging us on, so we decided to go for it and have a flash wedding.”
Then he looked back at Yunice. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you ahead of time. You’d better not skip out.”
The sacred sound of church bells rang through the air. Sunlight streamed through stained glass windows, scattering brilliant colors across the floor. The fragrance of lilies and champagne filled the air with sweetness.
Today was Victor and Candy’s wedding day.
The chapel was packed, laughter and chatter blending with the rustle of fine gowns and suits. White and champagne roses lined the aisle, different from the wild bursts in Yunice’s garden here, the flowers carried a solemn, romantic purity, just like the hearts of the bride and groom.
–
Wyatt and his family sat in the front row.
He wore a classic black suit, tall and commanding, his usual cold severity softened by the festive atmosphere.
Yunice had chosen a pale mauve gown, elegant and finely tailored. Her makeup was flawless, her hair pinned up to reveal her graceful neck. Pearls at her ears caught the colored light streaming through the windows.
Mindy looked like a little angel in a fluffy white dress and a flower crown, sitting between her parents, wide–eyed and curious about everything around her.
“The bride is so beautiful,” she whispered, staring down the aisle.
Yunice smiled gently, holding her daughter’s hand. “Yes. Today Candy is the most beautiful princess.”
Wyatt turned his head, his eyes falling on Yunice’s delicate profile. In a low voice he said, “In my heart, no one in a wedding dress is more beautiful than you.”
Yunice shot him a glance. “Shut up.”
Wyatt blinked. “You don’t love me anymore?”
Yunice murmured, “Say that again and I’ll throw you out.”

The wedding march swelled as the chapel doors opened. Candy, in her satin gown, held her father’s arm and slowly walked toward Victor, who waited at the altar.
Victor, for once, had set aside his usual composure. In his tailored suit, his gaze was unwavering, filled with love and focus. His palms were damp with nerves, yet his bearing radiated a new steadiness and resolve.
Vows were spoken, rings exchanged, and a kiss sealed the union.
Every moment was tender and moving.
Yunice watched the couple, their eyes fixed only on each other, and thought back to her own wedding with Wyatt. Theirs had been driven by calculation and gain, yet even then, Wyatt’s eyes had looked much like Victor’s now – bright with excitement and love.
Quietly, Yunice tightened her grip on Wyatt’s hand. He immediately clasped hers in return, their fingers entwined, a silent bond of shared memory.
“This is wonderful,” Yunice whispered, her voice catching faintly. “Everyone has found their own happiness.”
