Chapter 56Â
Taylor’s POVÂ
The city stretches out below us like a restless sea of glass and steel shimmering under the bruised glow of the late afternoon sun.Â
from Aiden’s penthouse office everything looks so distant so contained.but inside this room the air feels anything but calm.it hums with unspoken tension with something darker curling beneath the surface.Â
the light cuts through the tall windows in harsh golden angles slicing across the polished desk where Aiden sits hunched over a spread of papers and glowing screens.Notifications flare across his phone every few seconds bathing his face in a cold flickering light.Â
his jaw is tight sharp lines carved into his expression.Â
i sit on the edge of the desk watching him.my legs swing idly but my nerves are taut coiled.there is a heaviness in the air one that smells faintly of espresso metal and something electric.Â
“we won this round,” i say finally my voice low testing the silence. “Our kiss help your image, The media’s eating it up.”Â
Aiden doesnt look up.his thumb drags across the tablet screen scrolling through another report. ” its not over,‘ he mutters almost to himself.Â
the words ripple through me like a chill.Â
he leans back the leather chair creaking softly beneath him.the faintest reflection of the city skyline flickers in his eyes as he scans another feed. “Something has been on my mind as of late, That sex video–Dylan and Ella- it doesn’t add up.Â
the timing the angles, the leak… it is too clean.”Â
i tilt my head studying him. ” you are saying Dylan planted it himself?”Â
his gaze lifts slowly and for a heartbeat i see the predator behind his calm exterior.his voice is low even but there is a dangerous conviction beneath it.Â
“I can feel it. That bastard wanted to control the narrative before anyone else could. Make himself the victim.”Â
My arms cross before I even realize it, a reflex against the storm in his tone. “But you don’t have proof.”Â
Aiden exhales the sound sharp as a blade being drawn.the corner of his mouth curves not in amusement but with something colder. “No,” he says. “But I don’t need proof to make him bleed where it counts.”Â
something inside me tightens, the way he says it so measured so sure sends a shiver crawling up my spine.i watch as he stands his movements sleek and deliberate like a panther preparing to strike.Â
he picks up his phone the glow of the screen reflecting off the cuff of his shirt and starts scrolling through contacts i have never seen before. Private numbers. Powerful names.Â
“what are you doing?” i ask my voice barely above a whisper.Â
“Drowning him,” Aiden says simply.Â

He doesn’t shout. He doesn’t pace. His voice remains quiet, calm, terrifying in its restraint. He makes the firstÂ
call.Â
“Good afternoon,” he says smoothly. “How have you been. You about an so call up coming football player Dylan you might want to reconsider your partnership with Dylan. Public image matters–especially now.”Â
his tone is polite almost charming.but i can hear the edge beneath it the hidden knife in every word.when he hangs up another call begins.Â
Then another.each conversation is short deliberate just enough to plant doubt to twist the blade.Â
the rhythm of his voice fills the room steady cold efficient.the hum of the city feels miles away swallowed by his quiet dominance.Â
i study him from the edge of the desk. The way his shoulders never slump. The way his face remains unreadable.his focus is absolute surgical.Â
every click of the phone every measured pause its like watching a chess master dismantle an opponent piece by piece.Â
“you are terrifying when youre focused,” i murmur finally unable to stop myself.it slips out somewhere between awe and warning.Â
he glances up at me then his mouth curving just slightly the ghost of a smirk. ” that is how I survive.”Â
the words hang heavy in the air.they sound like truth like something forged in pain.Â
