108 The Devil’s A WorkaholicÂ
- up.Â
That warning look in his darkened blues spoke heavy volumes that got my heart racing. However, I was even more ecstatic to do something that would rile himÂ
“Morning!”Â
I jumped, snapping my gaze to Athena.Â
“Is that pancakes? Yummy!” She came and snatched my plate.Â
But Ares shifted his own plate towards Athena and brought mine back.Â
I cleared my throat, trying to ignore the heat lingering in the air that clearly wasn’tÂ
pure.Â
“I’ll be gone for the rest of the day,” Ares said out of the blue.Â
What?Â
“Ugh! Workaholic. Work is always important to you. When you die, I’ll engrave workaholic on your headstone.”Â
Ares doesn’t reply to her as he shuts his laptop, his eyes drifting to me.Â
“How fun at work!” I pitched, grabbing my fork to eat and not sparing him a second glance.Â

“We’re here to talk about Ares King’s wife,” The woman said, looking at the camera as it zoomed in close to her face in a dramatic wayÂ
“Catherine King. The one woman who could wear his ring. I honestly need to emphasize it because that’s what got us talking. Why her?” the man said to the woman.Â
“We do know she has been his secretary for years.”Â
“I mean, office romance is not Ares King’s style, given business comes first.”Â
“But to break out of that rule would mean she really is worth his attention.”Â
“Workaholic,” I said. “He’s a workaholic!”Â
Athena grabbed the remote and turned off the TV. “You shouldn’t watch this. All they do is speak adequate nonsense all day.”Â
“But they are not lying, business comes first for Ares King. It’s what’s more important.”Â

She sighed, folding her arms. “Is this about what I said? I was simply teasing, no need to get serious about it.”Â
“Whatever.” I pushed off the sofa, rubbing Lok on the belly. “I should get ready for work, I have papers to file, and a workload of documents to work on.”Â
“Are you seriously going to the office right now? Hell no!”Â
“What do you expect? I’m either stuck in this penthouse or there. I chose there.”Â
Everything smells like him here, but who am to talk when the office was the same, too. This was not gonna be easy for me, and I’m already at my last straw here.Â
“You know what?” I said, facing Athena. “What do you do for fun? I need it right now.”Â
A bright smile took over her lips. “Oh. My. Cat!” She squealed loudly, and I winced.Â
“You wanna have fun with me?”Â
“As long as it’s not chasing me through the woods with a fake gun.”Â
“It’s way better! I mean no guns or woods. There’s a new club opening tonight, we should go!”Â
“Club? I haven’t gone clubbing since forever.”Â
“All the more reason to go.” She fished out her phone.Â
“Except now I’m Mrs. King, and the last thing I want is my face slapped all over the internet as a party starter or the picture of vomiting into a bowl. I do not want to be the next scandal.”Â
“Who said anything about you going as Mrs. King?” Athena said, typing on her phone at speed.Â
“What do you mean?” I blinked.Â
“I party like crazy, and that’s coming from someone who has an overprotective brother”Â
“Why am I not surprised?”Â
“And there’s Isaac. She rolled her eyes. “A pain in the ass.”Â
“What’s with you and Isaac?” I asked, amusedÂ
“Except for the fact I wanna kill him most of the time. What’s there?”Â
“Right… I thought maybe something was going on with you two. You know?”Â

“Like what? I’ll kill him first, or Ares does, that’s what’s going on.”Â
“Enough with the killing, will you?”Â
She turned her phone to me. “Tori’s reply. Seems like she has been looking forward to something like this.”Â
I took the phone to see for myself. Athena has told her about a girls‘ night out, and Tori replied with fiery emojis, stating that as long as I’m going, she’s game.Â
“I haven’t even agreed to this yet.”Â
“Now you can.”Â
This is tempting really, and after all the crap and Ares leaving like that, I needÂ
something to take my mind off it. Going to that office will probably put me in a cranky position.Â
“Ares doesn’t have to know right.”Â
“Nope! This work of his will probably take longer.”Â
Could he be gone until tomorrow? That’s it!Â
“But what about Nico and Reed?”Â
“Trust me.”Â
“Trust you?”Â
That doesn’t sound like a good idea, but I was willing to trust her ability to cover herÂ
tracks.Â
“So! What do you have in mind?” I asked, already all in.Â
Athena grinned broadly, and I tensed because it reminded me of the devil.Â

Athena’s plan was simple: I would attend her shoot as a disguise. Since it was an exclusive one, Reed and Nico couldn’t come up to the top, so they stayed on the first floor.Â
Athena’s presence killed any suspicion, and just like that, it was taken care of,Â
“OMG! Is that June June!” Tori screamed the moment she saw him.Â
I loved how excited she was about this because she had watched all his fashion shows, and seeing him one–on–one must be a dream come true.Â

After a few hours of makeover, I could barely recognize myself in the mirror. This was certainly not Catherine Lane but someone else entirely.Â
I had on a straight platinum blonde wig that completely changed my look; my contacts were a darker shade, making my eyes appear brown.Â
I wore a black satin mini dress that hugged every curve. It had a thin strap and a draped neckline. I paired the dress with fishnet leggings. The finishing touches were my heavy makeup, and just like that, I was transformed.Â
I pulled out a collar from my bag, which I had taken with me. Wearing the black lace on my neck really matched my entire outfit.Â
I traced my fingers around it, suddenly picturing Ares‘ response when he saw me wearing it.Â
“Girl, you look hot, hot! Who are you?” Tori came forward, wearing the same satin dress, but hers was a different style that had one hand sleeves.Â
Her thick curly hair was forced into a high bun, and her makeup was lighter comparedÂ
to mine.Â
She didn’t need to hide like me.Â
“Your choker fits perfectly!”Â
“Actually, it’s a collar.”Â
“A what now?”Â
“Never mine. You’re rocking that dress.”Â
She gave a little twirl, and I giggled.Â
“Ladies!” Athena walked in, brushing her straight black hair over her shoulders.Â
She was styled in her fitted white mini dress with a high neckline, matching it with long arm sleeves that reached her wrist and upper arm, leaving her shoulders bare.Â
“Let’s party,”Â
