“Only, that dream… 

feels like it lost something important of mine.” 

The light turned green. 

He pressed the accelerator. 

Wind slid over the glass, 

like some old spirit breathing. 

I studied him in profile. 

The evening gilded his cheek with soft gold- 

gentle, quiet- 

and it hurt me so badly I shook. 

Night. 

I stood alone on the balcony. 

Wind bellied the curtains. 

My phone lit with a new email. 

Sender: Wind rises. 

Subject: “The Other End of the Dream.” 

I opened it. 

Wendy 

I dreamed someone was telling the wind to stop, 

but it didn’t. It went somewhere else. 

There, there was light.

I stared at the lines until tears misted my vision. 

The wind came in again, lightly stroking my face with a familiar warmth. 

I laughed under my breath.

even if you forget,

Some dreams repeat in the wind.

The surgical lamp was white as snow. 

The air stank of blood. 

Someone shouted, “Wendy!”- 

low, urgent, like a ripped-open breath. 

I woke soaked in cold sweat. 

The curtains swelled with the wind. 

The wind had returned. 

Instinct made me check my phone. 

Three a.m. 

One unread message. 

CEO Gu, sorry to bother you so late. 

There’s an issue with Shen Zhou.

By the time I reached the hospital, the corridor was empty. 

A nurse hurried out to meet me. 

“CEO Gu, in his sleep he shouted that name again.”

“Is he awake?”

I pushed it open.

His voice was hoarse, edged with unease. “Have I… 

dreamed of you?” 

I stayed in the doorway.

He nodded. 

“There was wind. 

I heard someone crying. 

I ran and ran, but I could never catch up to… me.” 

My throat closed; I forced a smile. “Dreams tangle things.” 

He lifted his head. 

“But when I woke- 

there were tears on my hand.” 

I stared. 

He raised his right hand. 

A faint damp track shimmered across his fingertips. 

I almost went to him. 

He kept speaking, even softer: 

“I don’t know why… 

every time the wind blows, I want to cry.” 

I turned aside. 

“You’re still recovering. Don’t think too much.” 

He reached out and tugged my sleeve, very gently. 

“CEO Gu.” 

Those eyes were clear as if they had never learned to lie. 

“Do I… know you?” 

My breath stalled. 

Wind lifted the curtain; the room filled with a scent I knew too well. 

I couldn’t answer. 

In that moment I understood: 

he’d forgotten- 

but his heart hadn’t. 

Morning, back at the office. 

Yuanzi hurried over with a file. 

“Bad news, CEO.”

“I heard you dreamed again.”

He looked out at the night.

They were holding me- 

saying, ‘Don’t sign.” 

My breath snagged. 

“Who am I?” I asked. 

He shook his head. 

“I don’t remember. 

But I know I’m waiting for me. 

The wind told me.”
