Chapter 4Â
I locked eyes with Miller as the venison clattered across the floor, catching his moment of panic.Â
Miller stumbled through an explanation, his usual confidence wavering. “The pack kitchen never prepares almond-crusted dishes. I… I heard it fromÂ
the servants.”Â
Turning away quickly, he began attending to Mora’s plate.Â
Mora leaned close to his ear, whispering something that made Miller’s jaw tighten visibly. Without another word, he pulled her away from the reception.Â
I remained at the table, indifferent to their departure. Only after the bouquet toss did I excuse myself to the restroom.Â
As I approached, my wolf’s enhanced hearing picked up rhythmic sounds from within. I froze, holding my breath, my inner wolf whimpering at the betrayal.Â
After several minutes of silence, a deep voice emerged from the end stall.Â
“So provocative, wearing that dress to a wedding, hmm?”Â
“Don’t you like it?” Mora’s voice dripped with satisfaction.Â
A growl of pleasure followed-the kind an alpha makes when claiming what he wants. “Very much so.”Â
I raised my head, staring at the ceiling lights above as my claws threatened to emerge, nails digging into my palms. As other guests approached, the room fell silent again. I cast one last look at the closed door before leaving, my eyes burning with the amber glow of my wolf struggling for control.Â
The ceremony ended late. After bidding farewell to Aly, I descended to the parking lot.Â
I immediately spotted Miller’s distinctive black Porsche. Ignoring it, I moved to call a rideshare, but Mora materialized beside me, gripping my arm with surprising strength for someone who wasn’t even a ranked wolf.Â
“Miller had pack business to attend to. He left me his car. Since we’re going the same direction, let me take you home.”Â
My immediate refusal was ignored as Mora practically shoved me into the passenger seat, locking the doors before accelerating away.Â
Mora drove recklessly fast, forcing me to grip the door handle. Throughout the ride, she kept up a steady stream of taunts disguised as casualÂ
conversation.Â
“You knew Miller was faking his memory loss, didn’t you? Why didn’t you confront him?”Â
My eyes flickered coldly. “That’s none of your concern.”Â
“How can it not be? I want to stand proudly as his Luna. Though he hasn’t marked me yet, you know how much he craves my body. The mate bond means nothing compared to desire, don’t you think? He’ll choose me eventually.”Â
I turned to watch the city blur past, my wolf snarling in my chest at her audacity. My silence only fueled Mora’s anger.Â
Approaching a sharp curve on the mountain road, Mora’s eyes gleamed with malice. She yanked the steering wheel hard, sending the Porsche straight toward the guardrail.Â
The impact sent me lurching forward. My eyes snapped open to see glass shards flying toward my face. I instinctively raised my arm in defense, my wolf’s protective instincts taking over.Â
Blood-rich with the scent of my alpha bloodline-poured from deep cuts in my arm.Â

Chapter 4Â
My head slammed against the door, and darkness claimed me,Â
I awoke to urgent voices.Â
“Both patients need immediate surgery, but we only have one orthopedic surgeon available. Without immediate treatment, either could lose use of their hands. Alpha Miller, who should we treat first?”Â
I forced myself to consciousness, my voice barely a whisper. “Miller… I need… my hands. My nursing career… the pack hospital… I can’t lose…”Â
The warm hand holding mine suddenly withdrew.Â
Through blurry vision, I caught Miller’s flash of panic before he turned to Mora, his voice firm with alpha authority-the command that made every wolf in the room bow their heads in submission.Â
“Treat Mora first.”Â
